Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Hmmmm, the conclusion of TLJ pretty strongly suggests Rey is the beginning of the next Jedi order (unless that's yet another mistake on Luke's part ;)) Plus under Disney, only females may be main characters. :D

I'm personally hoping for some kind of midichlorian/cloning link to the Skywalkers.

I'm not discounting the possibility of a Rey connection to the Skywalkers, but it's not necessary. TLJ also strongly suggests that Rey only exists as a balance to Kylo. The fact that she's the first in a new generation of Jedi just means that she's up to the task of being Kylo's adversary, and that the Jedi don't end with Luke. So what? That's for the future; the current central ST story is still more about Kylo than it is about Rey.

If you took Rey out of the ST, you'd still have a story about the First Order being led by a Skywalker who turned on Luke; you'd still have a role and purpose for a story connection with Han and Leia; and you'd still have Poe and the Resistance as the new Rebellion trying to take down the FO.

But if you take Kylo out of the ST, there literally is no story. None! No search for Luke. No broken family. No reason for Luke, Leia, or Han to be personally connected. No reason for Rey to exist or get involved. Nothing.

Pretty simple, right?

It is, and your right.

If I was the join the ST gripe train for a few miles , I would say this,

The missed opportunity in this saga was what came before ST started.

IMO it would have been a better saga if it started with Lukes Jedi school, how Snoke got Kylo to turn, and seeing Luke exile himself first....

Then make TFA/TLJ the second film.....cutting out and shortening a bunch of unneeded story

Of course every saga needs a villain, and without them you wouldn’t need a hero. That’s no different to Batman and The Joker being two sides of the same coin etc.

I’ll concede Kylo is the most interesting, and probably most popular character, but Rey is most definitely the central character of the trilogy.

She gets the most screen time, the story revolves around her, she has the connection to the saber, even the titles refer to her.

I understand your point; but some stories are more about the villain than they are about the hero. I think the ST is one of those cases. Kylo is more than just a simple villain to serve as foil to Rey's hero. Kylo is also the central reason for Luke's role in this.

Kylo and Rey are connected in a way where Kylo still has a part to play in the story without Rey. But Rey wouldn't even have any relevancy without Kylo. Not just because she wouldn't have been pressed into service to track down Luke; she wouldn't have been a Force-sensitive (according to TLJ) if not to be a balancing offset to Kylo.

Batman existed as a crime-fighting superhero before the Joker. Rey would not exist as a Force-wielding Jedi without Kylo. It's a different type of dynamic. I still see Kylo as the central player of the ST. That's just me, though.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Lucas says the first six episodes are Anakin's story even though the OT has Luke as the central character. If Rey does turn out to be a nobody then I guess the ST truly will be Kylo's story. The most emotionally powerful scenes do involve him, even if he's not the main character.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if it turns out that rey was palpatines offspring. A reversal of fortunes for the 2 bloodlines. If the rumors are true about palpatine making a return I could see it happening. I always thought it was weird how Rey’s saber fighting style mimicked palpatines, she thrusts and swings the saber like he did, very different then traditional jedi fighting style. I wonder why they went out of their way to do that, even kylos fighting reminds me of Luke’s long laborous swings. In tlj notice the way she slices and swings at that rock, a lot of one handed saber thrusts even the way she holds the saber is like palpatine, it would also explain her strong connection to the force and she wouldn’t be a skywalker so it wouldn’t ruin Disney’s mo

You forgot about Emo Luke Force Ghost who opened a microbrewery serving the finest blue ales.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

IMO it's a lame excuse to try and explain how Rey became an instant expert in the force... If this was true then how come the Jedi don't train that way, just tap into each other's minds and instantly learn everything from their Master... why go through years and years of training if you can just do a Star Wars version of the Vulcan Mind Meld and instantly learn everything you need...

This is just more BS in order to explain Rian's poorly written story....

Same problem....with SW people cannot accept something new...
The rules were forged in OT and no one can deviate from them under penalty of death....

I know folks who say PT stuff thats new is stupid also....

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

It's based on EVERYTHING that has ever been written about Star Wars be it cannon or the extended universe... Lets be the matrix and just download the fighting skills you want and poof your an expert.... hell why stop there lets give Jedi's power to think someone out of existence.... I think Sith's should have the force power to shoot nukes out of their ass... Adding force powers that open a can of worms is a mistake, Lucas made it giving Jedi the power to run like the flash, notice he abandoned it in all the following movies and animated shows because it caused more problems story wise as to how come the Jedi don't run around like the flash all the time, a single Jedi could take out 100's of enemies in a few seconds..

Jedi Speedsters for the win lol

Those dumb bastards forgot to activate their speed force during order 66

Just give Rey this force power, and the marvelfication of star wars will be complete

That way the "true Jedi" can wipe out the whole first order with a force finger snap. Its really the only believable way they can win, there are only like 11 resistance members Left and a Rose that survived on the Falcon- going up against an army.. not going to happen without Rey pulling off some superhero antics
