Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Think about this. At the end of ESB, Luke was beaten both physically and mentally. Han was tortured and frozen and taken away. Vader was or wasn't Luke's father.
Would Luke become a Jedi? Our heroes were in peril and we were left with lots of questions.

What about our heroes in TLJ?
What do we have to look forward to regarding our favorite characters in Episode 9? What challenges and hurdles do they need to overcome, what danger are they in? What challenge and devastating loss and pain has Rey endured through?

Finn- ......nothing
Rose .....nothing...well maybe overcoming her crash injuries ( if any)
Poe - nothing really
Leia - figuring out how they will end her character, that's about it
Kylo - turning to the light side?
Rey - turning Kylo to the light side? becoming a Jedi?
Hux - turned into buffoon in TLJ , if I were Domhall Gleason I wouldn't even return.
Luke - ghost?
Phasma - dead
Snoke - dead
DJ - who cares?

Were there any other characters?

I think we do have to see if Poe will become the leader they expect.

To see if Rey will be dragged into the battle Luke warned her about. To see if she tries to become the one woman army Luke says is a bad thing.

To see if Finn actually takes up the saber......

Honestly, I think we need to see characters die in the final chapter to make anything worth while. You are right in the sense that we do not have a lot of suspense at this point....

Mostly I am interested in Kylo becoming so evil he destroys the First Order himself somehow....

Watch JJ decide he's going to split Episode 9 into two parts -- Episode 9: Part 1 and Episode 9: Part 2

Thus a 4 part trilogy... and a way to mitigate Episode 8 without saying so.

I really think this is going to happen, been saying it for a while.

If they feel they need a fix, this is the only really way to do it.

Has anybody seen or heard anything from Kathleen Kennedy about all of this. I honestly think Disney did a Al Capone on her and whacked her in the head with a baseball bat.

the "crying" will and shall never end

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

We may have a leak from a Lucasfilm detractor. KK and RJ were hellbent on destroying Luke Skywalker. Colin resisted. KK fired him.

Rushmore and I don't think we're looking down at you guys; because we aren't - we just know the level of obsession over this series is ridiculous and are sitting back laughing at you guys. But in all fairness, it's kind of hard not to look down on people when they make clowns out of themselves.

Neither of us said anyone was stupid, now you're just making s*** up.

The only difference between rushmore and I is that he liked TLJ and I didn't.

Star Wars is a huge franchise with the most dedicated fan base ever and the majority of people feel it’s been ruined so of course they aren’t gonna let it go. My stance is that I won’t support this new series. It just sucks. I’ll stick with the old and prequels. I understand Star Wars fans anger with the treatment of the franchise. Some however take it a bit over board.

my reply wasnt for you, i was talking to rushmore because hes done that in every thread. hes always taking the high ground and hes always posted with a mightier than thou attitude whenever someone dislikes something he likes.
i know i said you guys but all of that is a response to the way he will come to a thread and always looks down on everybody if they are being negative

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

It's funny how Kathleen Kennedy was a "gopher" type producer for decades - more a background line producer for major names than a development-oriented (ie creative) producer - and yet seems to have really dug her teeth into SW.

I think everyone including Lucas kind of expected her to continue her original approach - just hiring creatives and vaguely conforming to Lucas' blueprints or spirit or whatever, but its amazing how this has detoured as radically as it has.

My guess is it came down to how Marvel has distorted the entire approach to IP franchises whereby you have the Kevin Feige key exec who assumes some broad creative control over a "universe" and products grow from those key creative decisions (or hiring decisions.)

Yet he had decades of comics (admittedly of varying quality and usefulness, but mostly classic in some way) to guide those decisions whereas with Star Wars you really had a blank slate (other than Lucas' vague story outlines, but they were conceptual only, not established IP.) With SW going forward, it's less about interpretation and updating of long-established material for future material and more about creating from scratch.

This is perhaps where the choice of Kennedy has run into trouble - that SW required much more of a new "actual" creative to run the show, but instead you have a non-creative in Kennedy hiring the latest "heat" talent to create something from scratch, so you end up with either dogmatic emulation of past SW from a career brand rebooter like JJ (whose key creative choice was progressive casting) or scorched-earth destruction of past SW from a creative who sees themselves as a sci-fi auteur like Rian.

The context of "peak progressive thinking" that's occured in the past five years maybe forced Kennedy's hand to make a bold "creative choice" in terms of SW - what must be one of the first bold producer decisions in the context of a career spent with the Lucases and the Spielbergs calling the shots - but it has taken the release of TLJ to really prove just how off-the-rails this choice has gone.

If the Lucasfilm Story Group has indeed been stacked with women, wonder how the original members are navigating that?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Makes sense.

Though Star Wars has a vast 40-years-in-the-making Expanded Universe to draw from (if they wanted to) much like Marvel's 50 years. Most of that is dreck though -- like much of Marvel -- so likely its easier to just de-canonize the EU like Disney did and start fresh. I don't think Kennedy's agenda is any different than today's Spielberg or Lucas; in fact she's passing along the very beliefs they hold now. Both of them are very diverse in their own ways (wives and families).

While setting aside those certain "issues" with Raiders and TOD, along with TPM and the all-white OT cast.

Doesn't matter if the movies are considered good or not, they will make money because STAR WARS!!! 'feels' 'falcon!!" "Darth Vader!!!" PT were hated by the masses and the stigma continues to this day, but they still made money when they came out and still do today. And Hot Toys just produced their best Star Wars doll: PT Anakin Skywalker :wave

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Which I am definitely getting. It’s funny how the pt is “ hated” but that figure is one of the most sought after and is sold out on bbts. The force awakens toys are still in stock.
