Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

That might be my biggest problem with TLJ, although I have a few. It seemed to kill any momentum that TFA had built up. Every major character is either dead, unusable, or robbed of their dignity by the end of the film.

So true All they needed to do was put to Luke, Han, and Leia together for one last time. But they couldn't even give us that.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Man that says it all right there and it actually beat TFA HOLY CRAP!!!

Fandango’s new list of top five first day presellers is as follows:

1. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)
3. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
4. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
5. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

So Disney... yeah.

Endgame was chosen by "several thousand fans" at the end of 2018 as the most anticipated movie of 2019, according to a Fandango moviegoer survey, which is noteworthy considering 2019 also contains Star Wars Episode IX.
Got tickets for Friday afternoon, all seats were still available.

Looking forward to this.

Like you, I won't set foot in the avengers thread either.

They wrecked any chance of that happening in their very first movie.

Then why even bring them back at all. for the ticket sales? If you are going to bring them back at least make them important in the movies.

You don't feel as though they played an important role in the films?

I still vividly recall my conversation with the priest...

“It’s going to be great, that’s great, it’s going to be great, that’s great, it’s going to be great, that’s great”

As background yes. But these were beloved characters who were finally getting a chance to revisit a galaxy far, far away. and they were wasted IMO. But financially having them in the film was a brilliant decision. But it would have been a more fitting end for these characters seeing them take one last ride together. That not happening, makes me sad.

I never expected to see them in a Star Wars film again, so what we got is gravy, at least to me. I don't really expect 70 year old characters to be running around, fighting, saving the galaxy.

Pretty much feel the same. It was a huge mistake to kill off Han, without a reunion scene.

Then Carrie’s stupid death.

I wasn't expecting to see that either. I just wanted to see them reunited. It wouldn't have been all that difficult. to do.

There's still a chance for 3 force ghosts, I suppose.

::cringe::

I do get that, though. There is a certain cold feeling one is left with, akin to dying alone.

They'd have to break canon there though and say that now anyone, even non-jedi, can become one with the force.

Unless Luke manages to accomplish it through his mastery of the force.

Would you settle for a flashback reunion from before Luke went into exile?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I think the criticism about Luke, Han, and Leia not being reunited will always be a very fair and valid one. Five years ago, it would've been almost impossible for me to imagine a scenario where the people who are given the opportunity to make the first sequel to the *original f'ing trilogy* would construct it in a way that Luke, Leia, and Han wouldn't be united - or even share any screen time together at all.

And to make it worse, they'd plot the story in a way that prevents it from ever happening in the 2nd or 3rd acts of the trilogy (without a fan-service flashback scene). I never would've seen that coming, or even believed it.

But . . .

I never expected to see them in a Star Wars film again, so what we got is gravy, at least to me.

. . . This is also very true. If I'm given a choice between having OT sequels and not having them, I'll take *any* amount of Luke, Han, and Leia again rather than none at all.

The real gravy for me has been that I've found the ST movies much more enjoyable than the PT movies (all made by Lucas - the Creator, himself). After the PT, I was prepared to dislike these new films too (and would've been okay with that) - but now it's like found money. Do I regret the missed opportunity with the big three? Of course! But, do I think the overall story is a bad one, or the films poorly made? Not even close. So, a total net positive for me, to say the least.

Seeing Hamill, Ford, and Fisher reprise their roles once again had been something I'd given up hope for. So I'll always be grateful to Lucas for allowing someone else to make it happen, and to Disney for following through with putting them on screen (no matter what regrets or nitpicks there may be about how it was executed). I hope Episode IX can bring more fans on board, at least to the point of seeing this sequel trilogy as a net positive. Not likely, I know, but SW is supposed to be about hope, right? :)
