Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019
You're all right Chakor.
You're all right Chakor.
Oh man you guys are going to get this thread closed too
I copied and pasted that huge www.thedigitalbits.com breakdown of what to get with a new 4K TV but hell if I remember what thread it was posted in, lol. So that's better, OLED or QLED?
Just becareful with UHD purchases because not all studios allow 4K redemption of the digital copy only HD.
My head hurts just trying to keep up with it lol
I haven't fully investigated myself, and I should add that iTunes doesn't currently allow you to download 4k, only stream (I think that was on the studios' insistence). You'll need a third-party app to download the file and remove the DRM.

For me there's no comparison. OLED all day long.
LG & Samsung have been the standout 2 companies for quite sometime, especially since Sony nearly exited the CE market, Pioneer (was the king) & Panasonic gave up on Plasma & never seemed to succeed with LCD, & Sharp died out long ago.. But QLED (formerly quantum dot) is just Samsung putting off the inevitable since they did not invest the money into OLED like LG did. Which is ironic since Samsung supplies everyone, including Apple, with their OLED displays for cell phones. They just never invested in large displays. LG is now selling panels to Sony and Panasonic. No manufacturer seems to care nor want Samsung to offer their QLED panels (OEM) for production of their own models.
Here's a good comparison article.

By the way I worked in the consumer electronics industry for 20 years if that makes my opinion any more valid. And I have some friends that still do so I get the scoop on lots of new tech.
Sweet, heck yeah it does, thanks for the info!
I did assume there’d be a program one would have to use to strip the DRM but that’s interesting that it downloads the stream as well. Thanks, good to know. I’ll look into the quality difference then.
Correct me if I am wrong, but is it even possible to stream 4K ? I mean with a gigabit connection maybe, but typical internet connections around the country is less to 50mbps.....most less than 20...
I barley can get that level of streaming and I get 150-200 MBps.
To my knowledge true 4K is only really achievable from disc through cable or local streaming....

Do you have a favorite brand? A lot of folks over at www.hometheaterforum.com seem to lean toward LG (though I've heard they're not very reliable from a QC standpoint.)
Thats incorrect all you need is 15mbps to stream 4k HDR and regular 4k content like for direct tv for example, even then the only drawback of digital is the audio, the bluray is raw uncompressed while the streaming gets the hit. Movies in regular HD get a small hit but on 4k HDR the pictures look crisp on stream.
If you stream through your actual tv, note that the internal modems are not that great, also note that you must ensure your hdmi cable is on the first port, read the manual of your tv it will tell you, but my sony had two hdmi ports capable of handling the hdmi through audio and video while my new 70” vizio only has one hdmi port that supports the 4k and up streaming

I’m happy he posted that link because it goes to the same place I was going.
From the article:
“BRIGHTNESS
When it comes to capable brightness, QLED TVs have a considerable advantage. LED TVs were already good at getting extremely bright, but the addition of quantum dots allows them to get even brighter. Because of this, QLED TVs claim superior “color volume,” meaning they are able to make all colors in the available spectrum brighter without losing saturation. QLED TV makers also claim they are better for HDR content because spectral highlights in images – the glint of light reflecting off a lake or a shiny car, for instance – are more powerful and more easily visible.”
This is the way I see it Khev.
While my brain is telling me that OLED is king especially with real location movies like “When Harry Met Sally” my heart rate increases when I see a modern visual effects extravaganza blazing on a QLED!
Something about the increased brightness on an LED TRICKS me into preferring it over my grandfathers beautifully safe LG OLED.
Well that’s great info....still new to the 4K as I Just got my Samsung about 3 months ago...
I have had zero luck with 4K content streaming......it all looks like crap. I will check the port.
My real concerns are living free of physical media. Streaming just hasn’t worked out for me yet.....

Khev if you really want an unbiased review of items from the home theater community, I mean these are folks who buy their own tv's to rate them in all possible ways www.rtings.com will you give the latest and greatest in EVERYTHING. those guys wear them out and compare other brands if need be.
I used to buy movies every tuesday at best buy just because, even movies I never watched, then I got broken into, all 600 dvd's gone. I made a vow never to amass that much media, ever since I started going digital. I only buy physical movies I love and want the most out of the audio. Is there a difference in streaming, a bit, but it's barely noticeable. Like I mentioned it's only audio on demanding films.

"Yes, of course because it shows Luke was putting on a facade in front of Rey and even Chewie, that he was embittered and sort of a broken man," Hamill said. "And I think the fact that he could let his emotions out when he was by himself would have made an impact on the audience because it allowed them to grieve the loss of Han Solo just the way Luke felt it.
"But that always happens in films. You say, 'Oh, what about this scene where this happens or that happens?" because you want to give the fullest experience that you can. And like you say, it was brief enough that I was -- [chuckles] They had time for me to milk that big alien but to show any human emotion? Nah, we don't have time for that. But again it's not my call."
this is why i am sticking to VHS tapes for older movies and dvd for newer movies. theres no way im doing to change formats until everything is fully digital and fully streamable. when netflix gets more competition
Mark Hamill, when asked if he regrets Luke's reaction to Han being cut from the final movie:
To be fair, I think given the context of the interview and the tone he's just being snarky here, but it's still funny to see the titty milk debacle be acknowledged in such a fashion. (And he had fun with the pics he shared on twitter in the past as well )
