I have no idea how Disney would make an Indy movie these days - I mean the Nazis are worn out and belong to a younger HF (unless they do old HF Indy looking back at a Chris Pratt starring adventure,) so what villains could Indy face? Half of young people today have sympathy for socialism/communism so no more USSR, and forget China/Japan or terrorists of any kind.

Maybe he can battle some crass wall street types partnered with apartheid era baddies in S Africa trying to finance white supremacists? Aren't many safe options left.

Indy just feels too uncomfortably "real world" in an era of aliens, robots, ghosts and Siths as mega-movie villains that upset nobody, especially in this era of de-colonization studies. The social movements of the past 5-7 years have done Indy no favors. My guess is even recasting Indy as female or minority wouldn't 100% take care of the issue.

Indy's best left in the 30/40's and recast.

Ancient Indy in the 60's battling Viet Kong and Hippies is not really interesting. In fact, its laughable.

They can try that de-aging nonsense but that doesn't really work for long-term 8K+ viewing.

Well I think that's what the original plan was but HF seems against it.

I just think the whole 30s/40s world is fraught with problems - we are in an era where the past is under a microscope and Indy kinda feels part of that colonization narrative. White man kicking ass in "exotic" non-white cultures. Orientalism and othering. Look at how the treatment of Arabs in ROTLA is seen today, and TOD was refused filming in India due to the same concerns even in 1982.

To some degree Indy is a bit like Austin Powers - I think the problems go beyond an aged star. Something key in the formula feels like a mismatch for what's going on currently. That no matter how you did it social media would have a hissy fit.

Yeah, that's true -- I wasn't looking at the bigger picture. Its unfortunate that people have to turn to a revisionist view of history... rather than accepting the past and learning from it.

What they're doing right now won't be looked at very favorably in time.

I have no problems with evil Nazis or Italians or Japanese and Chinese from the time. In fact, the more moustache-twirling they are, the more it becomes a fantasy to me.

But yes, the Great White Hero is quickly becoming as archaic as those amusing stereotypes.

Maybe Indy just needs a female boss and a black friend? Works for other white heroes.

A 1960s black Indy with a female boss, a gay white friend and the PLO battling climate change and privilege might work.:lol

I missed all the fun earlier. You guys had me crying. Had to add my two cents. I think you missed one.

?It?s too big to be a space station.?

Have they said what day this film is releasing

I know it said Dec..but what day? :dunno

Hopefully the new trailer will give us the actual date

Lol I wouldn?t be surprised if it?s delayed due to conflicts. It?s funny how TFA hype was off the charts and now years later people are ? meh? to the ending of the Skywalker saga .

Who would of guessed that outcome when fans saw the falcon fly again after so many years

People are tired of getting suckered into bad movies.

Since 1999, since Star Wars grand return, there's been only one really great Star Wars movie -- Rogue One. And even that one is not for everyone.

It's a surprisingly mediocre franchise considering its impact and popularity isn't it. :lol

Eh see I love the deep lord behind it.
Older dudes who grew up with the OT appreciate the ground breaking success of the film.

PT dudes who were young at the time these came out like the fall of anakin and don?t mind how bad it was cause it delivered great moments and gave us a more detailed look at the lore of the Jedi .

Now it?s like no one likes where the franchise is going. Not young not old. No one. People still gravitate to the old stuff.
To me what makes Star Wars great is it?s world building and lore. The movies are hit or miss with me. Hell my fav Star Wars movie is ROTS and that?s a sin to OT fans

lol @ last sentence.

Even as a fan of the PT, if Episode I had been the first film released I'm not sure too many would have cared what happened next.

Same goes for Ep VII.

Yikes Jake Lloyd being the start of everything SW.

It'd be just another forgotten 90's space move like The Fifth Element and Lost in Space.

However if TPM somehow kicked things off in 1977 then yeah it would have found a huge audience. Not ANH huge but it still would have been big.

I do think that if TFA had followed the 3 year release schedule and come out in 1986 that it would have been well received. And then if TLJ went up against Batman in 1989? Hmm, lol.
