Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

With Luke’s saber damn son.

Too bad Luke didn't seem remotely curious where Rey got his saber!

In the novelization, Luke says he was preparing to burn the tree down many times and finally got up the nerve to do it only stopping because Rey shows up and hands him his fathers lightsaber. He symbolically was going to burn down the Jedi while wearing his Jedi robes. When Rey leaves, he decides he will burn it down this time no matter what, re-donning the Jedi robes to do so.

Thanks, that makes sense!

Biggest Plot Holes in ST:

A 1000 year old bar person has a lightsaber for 30 years knowing it's Luke's and never once contacts or returns it even though knowing Han Solo personally...

Who funded the First Order...

You may argue Leia used the force to save herself, but how come no one was sucked out hatch door with no ray shield as she re-entered...

Why did Luke not see the goodness in his nephew as he did his father...

Why did it take months of Training for Luke but no training for Rey...

Who is Snoke...

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

So true thank god the OT and PT had no plot holes.

Episode 1:
Darth Sidious causes a blockade epidemic on Naboo to establish a Tariff by the Trade Federation on his homeworld.
Jedi are sent in to restore the peace by Republic's order.
After Jedi are ambushed they sneak aboard a landing cruiser which lands on outskirts of Theed.
Theed is invaded and Trade Federation begin negotiating for Control of Naboo over the Captured head of State Queen Amidala.
Jedi use Gungan help to infiltrate Theed.
Jedi rescue Queen and escape Theed but vessel is damaged by blockade.
Vessel heads to nearest planet that their light drive can take them for repairs.
Qui-Gon meets Anakin, Qui-Gon senses the force in Anakin.
Qui-Gon makes bet for Hyperdrive and Anakin from his slavemaster for a winning Podrace game.
Anakin is freed and Darth Maul tracks down the Vessel from nearest star system a vessel could be damaged and repaired.
Darth Maul ambushes Qui-Gon right before take off.
The vessel reaches Coruscant where Palpatine and Supreme Chancellor Vallorum greet the Queen and Jedi.
Qui-Gon wants to train boy asks Council for permission after giving go ahead for his padawan to be knighted.
Senate holds rally and tensions between the Trade Federation and Naboo allegations lead to a new election for Chancellor. Fulfilling Palpatine's (Sidous') place in power.
Queen heads back to Naboo, Gungans and Theed unite after disputes for many generations and take on the Trade Federation.
Jedi encounter Darth Maul and Anakin with the help of R2-D2 go into a space battle.
Qui-Gon dies, Obi-Wan kills Maul, Anakin destroys Trade Federation control ship and council grants Anakin's training and Obi-Wan's knighthood.

Now the only plot hole in Episode 1 is, who is Anakin's father? But wait... there was no father... conceived by the force (a retelling of Jesus of Nazareth). Which George had always used historical moments in his OT and PT.

The only narrative in the ST is reusing what OT has done and putting PC with no narrative or basis at ALL... Take what you will from PT to OT, but when it comes to ST... ST is worse than dime store porno rental.

And I used Epsiode 1 on purpose... because though pacing in Episode 2 was bad and Episode 3 was best of all. For PT being nearly 20 years old this year, it still holds up better than TFA and TLJ combined... Rose makes Jar Jar look like Tuco from TG, TB & TU...

Well damn that explanation certainly works for me. Thanks for posting. :duff

Thank god for JAWS. i seriously thank god he was here when the movie came out. I thank JAWS for his reviews and his opinions. In amidst all the chaos and all the trolling by snikt and Spazz JAWS was a bright light in the darkness.

I will never forget JAWS input and i will forever respect him and i hold his opinions dearly. JAWS is one of the guys i would always respect. hes such a great guy to have here. the fact that he fought the good fight will always have him in my good sides

Never forget Snikt and Spazz are the same person....proving at least some of the TLJ haters will go through huge lengths to prop up the hate machine.....even double themselves to show how many people really hate the film...

Perhaps, but he could have brought it up later when he asks, "Who ARE you?"

Well I for one don’t think he was literally asking her who she was.

“I’m no one”

He was throwing up a mirror and maybe not just for her maybe he was asking that question of himself.

What’s ironic is that Luke could theoretically view himself as coming from no one.

Mother died at birth, father disappeared at birth.

Bleh, I’m just done with SW. I’ll celebrate the good ones but I’m not hyped at all for this.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Wow how exciting Han and Luke both exactly the same and retracing their steps from the OT.

If I want to watch that version of those characters i’ll just put on the OT thank you very much.

Who said anything about retracing their steps?:slap

I mean... other than recasting Luke as female and her retracing his exact steps that is - many of the "steps" Rey takes in TLJ are literal retreads of what Luke did in the OT - her surrender to Kylo and Snoke could be intercut with Luke's surrender to Vader and the Emperor in ROTJ scene-by-scene, shot-by-shot and line-by-line it is so precisely copied. The exact same things happen and are even said. Kasdan should have sued for plagiarism - he'd win.:lol

So you mock the idea of Luke (and Han) having more to his story as "retracing steps" but you have no issue with vast literal retread elements as seen in TFA and the TLJ example above?

So true thank god the OT and PT had no plot holes.

Back then they called them "things that make you want to see the next movie for the answers." Such an antiquated idea. :lol

He gets dressed up to burn down a tree... that symbolizes something he's given up on? Isn't that a bit like wearing your wedding suit to sign divorce papers?

So Luke having no memory of his mother even though Padme only even held Luke...is that what you mean? Because I'm still waiting for the answer on that one. I rather like Johnson tied up any loose ends from HIS movie. If JJ chooses to address the lightsaber that's his deal. Luke not caring about the lightsaber is not a plot hole. It's the character of Luke not caring about where it came from because he is done with the whole Jedi religion at this point.

Snikt and Spazz were not the same person. Anybody paying attention around here as opposed to skimming posts, categorizing them and lumping members into "camps" would know that.:slap

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Still don't understand why people jump onto an Internet thread about Star Wars sequels to declare that they are done with Star Wars sequels...do they want to be talked out of it or something..? I don't like Thai food anymore...I can't imagine walking into a Thai restaurant, waiting for my server to arrive, and then declaring that I am "done with Thai food" and then storming out...or even more accurately staying at the table and loudly complaining to everyone else in the restaurant about how terrible the menu is because I don't like Thai food anymore...some people are strange...

Done with Star Wars? It's like saying you've had enough of smartphones - in, on and around just about everything you do, a new one comes out every 9 months and everyone says its the best one yet.

Today's Star Wars is like air and toilet paper - your relationship with it is eternal.

Is that threadcrapping?:lol

With the home video market so fragmented and blu-ray a shadow of its former self, it's very hard to figure out how TLJ is doing in its home video release. Backlash aside, it's obviously a Star Wars mainline movie so is guaranteed a staggeringly huge footprint, but its surprising to see its not #1 in a few important measures only a few days after its release (though yeah, these rankings change in real time, so grain of salt):

It's tough to judge Amazon Blu Ray due to the war that's going on over Disney releases there over BR (Doctor Strange BR didn't go up for PO there, and wasn't available to ship for a couple of months last year), but its surprising TLJ isn't #1 in DVD - a format which for some reason wasn't affected by the Disney/Amazon dispute (just BR and streaming) though its volumes are way-down over its glory days so not exactly conclusive.
