The Clown Prince of Crime
Super Freak
Even if you disregard the prequels as canon, what Obi-Wan and Yoda did to Luke was really manipulative. They're never upfront or transparent with him about anything. They lie to his face about his father, about his family, everything. Then to add insult to injury, they admit to him that they hid him and watched him for years from the shadows. They really just use him as a pawn to eliminate Vader and the Emperor. If something had happened to him, they wouldn't have cared, they would have just had another force zealot waiting in the wings to replace him. Honestly, Obi-Wan and Yoda are really no different than Vader and the Emperor when you think about it. They both support him murdering his father too. That's not very Jedi-like.
The better ending to Star Wars would have been if Luke had just said **** it in Empire, jumped off the catwalk and didn't get sucked into that tube conveniently and instead, died. That's an honorable death and a better ending to what we ended up getting in subsequent films. Certainly a better ending for him. Going out on your own terms, telling your would be father and the Empire to go **** themselves is a lot better than just dying on a rock, just because you're tired.
Or Luke returns to Yoda's place.
Luke - "You know what's funny? I used to think my life was a tragedy...
*Luke removes Yoda's pillow from under his little green head*
"But now I realize, it's a ******* comedy."
*Luke suffocates Yoda in his bed*
