Pretty good trump impression by Myers

It was ok, Colbert is much much better at it.

But who is the Master and who is the Apprentice? I would say that Adoptedscot is the Master. :lecture :lol

Not even Hamburger Helper can help Jye's face. :lol :wink1:

Hey I resemble that remark!

When you put your face too near the microwave and it explodes cos the wife didn't oven cook your dinner that day cos she sick of the daily SW marathons with Khev. :lol

My poor wife she has suffered plenty these last 18 years.

But she can be such a ***** sometimes lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Jye are you really invested in Rey’s story from here on out? Do you really think she’s interesting? I just find her so boring and uninteresting. She has no flaws. That goes for the new characters to. They just kinda suck. What do you see in these characters that’ll keep you coming back. Just wondering.

I know not directed at me either, but yes, I am very invested in Rey. I find her character interesting and compelling. I like that she’s clever, independent, capable, self reliant, and strong willed. But she is also very emotionally vulnerable. She has a need to be a part of something and has been looking for that her whole life. But when Han comes along and offers her that, she turns it down because she is afraid of leaving her familiar life, regardless of how crappy it is. First she loses Han who could have been a great father figure, and now loses Luke. I empathize with everything she is going through and want to see her succeed.

I think she’s a great character and I’m fully involved in her story as I watch. As opposed to Jyn, who I don’t find as interesting. I logically see what her character consists of (orphan, outlaw, wanting to avenge her father, wanting to redeem herself, etc…). It all sounds good on paper, but on screen I just don’t feel that involved with her.

I also like Poe, Finn and Rose. Poe especially after TLJ—I think his character really flourished here. Finn had that great moment in wanting to sacrifice himself for the Resistance. It shows how far he would go for something he believes in, as opposed to the FO, which he did not believe in and therefore chose to defect. Rose shows great tenacity and determination, as well as being the “heart” of the group, as she says that it’s about saving what you love not destroying what you hate.

Wow watching Rian connect the dots in the doc called Balance of the Force i’m totally behind his reasoning behind Luke’s journey as well as Rey’s parents.

The guy knew what he was doing.

Yep. That sit down with Johnson talking about his interpretation of what the Balance of the Force means to him is my second favorite extra behind the Director and the Jedi which is the best making of documentary for Star Wars since the Phantom Menace documentary. It was honest and not filled with fluff. Only thing it was missing was Rick Macullum dropping F bombs about Liam Neesons wig getting lost in a storm!

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

You didn't answer the question, what is interesting about anyone except for Ren, that you are invested enough in to anxiously await the next one?

Well he wasn’t asking me but...

I want to know how Rey will reconcile what she learned from Luke with the lessons in the Jedi texts. Will she train Jedi? Will she putsue balance ina different way? Does she really know the truth about her lineage? Was Kylo playing on her fears or honestly reporting flawed info?

What will Finn/Poe/ The Rebellion make of Rey’s complicated feelings toward Kylo?

Where will Finn’s allegiance lie if he disagrees with Rey? Will he pursue his own family connections, choose to stay a militant Rebel, decide to go neutral?

I want to see Poe manage a fleet :lol and also take on a huge battle from the sidelines.

There’s lots of drama set up for these characters IMO and I want to see it play out.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Honestly I dont post much (I'm currently student teaching and not a lot of time for anything) but arguing about Star Wars is a nonsensical cycle. I get tired of giving my reasons why I think The Last Jedi is my third favorite Star Wars film because I cannot fully explain why it makes me in love with the fantasy of the Force again. They are going in a new direction that actually binds the galaxy together and has a legend to follow in the sacrifice Luke Skywalker made to save a small band of Rebels.

My oldest brother who is 8 years older than I am is a lifelong Star Wars fan who has a Star Wars room in his home. He HATED TLJ. Hated it and felt gutted. He saw it 5 times in the theater trying to find something he liked in it and it never happened for him. I spoke with him over Easter and he still feels the same way. And you can tell he is actually hurt over it, he found things to love about AOTC!!! I explained all the things I love about it and he just cannot get behind any of it.

My point being I can hush over it all I want but ultimately I know and understand why some people hate it. It is not the story you wanted for Luke Skywalker or for the legacy of the Skywalker family. And I know it has a lot of humor (sometimes too much) and characters that are hated. I get that but just cannot agree with any of those complaints. That is why it's useless to sit and argue over it and throw hate towards each other.

It sucks that my brother actually hates this movie and is done with SW because I can tell it hurts him on many levels. And I feel genuinely bad for fans that hate it. I don't look down on you for conflicting opinions, I just wish we could all discuss this movie without it turning into conspiracy theories and down right nastiness.

My friend and I had the same conversation about our daughters that Luke & Yoda have about Rey about two weeks before TLJ opened. We both had very bad allergies at that scene! :lol

Wow, fascinating question. Any other damage Kylo does now is kind of on her. She could have simply not tossed him her saber, let the Praetorian Guard kill him and then fled the ship. No more Snoke, no more Kylo Ren.

All valid points that I tend to agree with in principle, suppose my frustration is that they didn't do anything in the last chapter to further all of the above to leave the audience wanting to know more and follow these characters. It was almost like the arc for each was closed even for Ray and Ren, where as after TFA the ton was set.

This movie didn't seemed to care about that and more about other ******** that been repeated here at nauseum

How can you not get choked up watching your childhood heroes talk about the new generation growing past them *with your own kids.* That was literally a lifelong cinematic moment in the making that I don't see how can ever be topped in my adult life.

Again that was the idea, but this movie failed to do that, no new children care about the ST. For every fan it lost, it simply didn't gain another, your children continue to follow, mine stopped, net effect - minus one

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I mean it’s all anecdotal of course but my wife is a grammar school teacher and the kids generally love SW according to her, both boys and girls. Not saying that’s definitive in any way.

No but that's an indication of a positive, and hopefully they do enough to keep and grow that next generation. Just a bummer that my kids don't care for it :(

Great post! I agree! I see and understand all those complaints, but I simply don't agree. They see "pathetic" Luke who dies like a coward, and I see hermit Luke who redeems himself. I don't think we'll ever see eye to eye.

And here it is again, callin' someone else's arguments "conspiracy theories".

The level of hypocrisy is...

Ahhhhh..... titty selection. I used to love that.
RJ love it too. That's the whole point of that scene. :lol

Yeah, it's very strange to me that so many of the bashers either can't or simply refuse to acknowledge that we aren't fans because we see Luke as a weak coward and go "cool, he's such a loser, I love it!" Instead we see him as a flawed hero (which are the best kind IMO) who makes the very best decision he can to help the galaxy based on the information he had. When he received new information he immediately took action that saved everyone in a way that taxed his body beyond it's limits and went out a hero and a legend.

A major theme of the film is looking like a hero vs. doing what is right. Luke, Poe and Holdo all struggle with their own versions of that theme. I can understand why people would dislike the film if they thought those themes were poorly executed even if I disagree and think the execution was spot on. What I can't understand is why so many of the bashers hold such contempt for those who did think that the film nailed those dramatic beats. And that's why I easily dismiss the views of such individuals. The lack of civility is just so unnecessary. You'd think anyone who was actually a fan of this Saga would focus as much as possible on the positive elements while having a good chuckle (with those whom they both agree and disagree) over the negative.

I've never once gone off the deep end against those who like the prequels. I've never claimed that people who liked the PT were idiots or blind nor have I felt the need to make endless claims that everyone agrees with me that the prequels suck. I simply say that the PT doesn't "count" as far as I'm concerned and don't really care who disagrees with me. I'm not sure why that's such a difficult concept for others to grasp, but obviously that's the world we live in now.

I'm just glad that there are still at least a few rational and civil peeps to both agree and disagree with. :)
