That would be a fair assessment, but AOTC didn't destroy merchandise profits as TLJ has. TPM was so bad that it was the beginning of the end. TLJ was the final nail in the coffin. TROS was a failed attempt at necromancy.

Ha ha, in more ways than one, huh.

It's so interesting how the stories and characters of TFA and TROS both parallel the actual mindset of creating those films. TFA was all about Kylo trying to copy Vader and fearing that he wouldn't live up to his grandfather's legacy (like Abrams both copying and fearing the standard of the OT) with TROS trying to bring back both Palpatine, and the ST, from the dead. And then who knows what they were thinking with TLJ. Burn it all down I guess, lol.

And yet the force awakens had tremendous hype and outgrossed avatar domestic. The franchise was fine.

Maybe when it's on Disney+, but most likely not. Why watch a movie that's gonna do nothing but piss me off. Took too long to get past TLJ.

Wish I had waited. They handled Leia well, no doubt. Actors do a good job as expected. Aside from that, it's uninspired. Emperor alive with a secret fleet of 500 plus ships feels like such a cop-out for the story.
