Okay with the arrival of Star Wars 4K77 I'm shocked to say that it looks like I'll officially be retiring the Harmy edition. WOW is this a gorgeous transfer of an original 35mm film print. I can't believe they got it to look so good. And even though the disc I got is "only" 1080p that's still a higher resolution than even the Harmy restorations. Finally the original SW without a *single* change that proudly displays on current televisions.

Time to pick up ROTJ 4K83 and I can't wait for them to finish ESB! :rock

Where did you buy that? And what quality is the SW Holiday Special?

I just bought the A New Hope and Return of the Jedi as a two-pack off of eBay. Got the 1080P DNR version. It's been many years since I watched the movies as they were originally. Psyched!

I wonder if that ROTJ disc comes with the "From Star Wars to Jedi," and "Classic Creatures of Return of the Jedi" documentaries. I don't see any mention of them on the ebay page, but they are mentioned on the 83 project page.

PM sent and I haven't taken a look at the HS just yet.

Thanks! Just PMed you about the SWHS being included.

Also, are these only available on eBay or are they also available more directly from the people who made them?

I would love to know where to pickup a copy of these versions as well if someone could PM me. Thanks!

Young me would've digitally downloaded them and burned a copy myself. Old me has less time and a bit more disposable income, so just went the eBay route. Already shipped from the UK and might be here by Valentines Day. My wife will be a bit disappointed, but it's the original cinematic cut! :)

You really shouldn't be buying any of these versions of fan restored/4k versions on Ebay. Or at conventions or by any other means. These sellers are profiting on others hard work and long hours to bring them to the fans for free by other fans. They download it for free, along with stolen artwork, then sell them. These versions are all over the internet and can easily be found for free for downloading with a little time and effort. As well as tons of fan created artwork to download and print for the discs and for making disc cases/holders, and even for box sets along with instructions.

Harmy and the others all continuously ask fans not to buy these...

If LFL ever wants to take it upon themselves to release an official restoration of theatrical SW then I'll gladly pay them for it as I did for all previous releases. Until then I'll simply pay others to do what I have neither the time nor inclination to do myself and will bend the knee to no one's lecture on the subject.

The people that make these advise not to purchase them because they know that's an important disclaimer to make if they want to continue to operate under the legal radar. Good for them.

meh

What did TN1 they think was going to happen when they spent all that money and time creating the final results and putting it out there for free.

Of course someone was going to put it on disc and sell them.

They are selling the convenience of customers not having to dig thru the dark corners of the internet themselves and burning the discs or using up hard drive space.

Welcome to the free market economy give me my disc beeoches lol

Very well said. :clap

Restored versions of original theatrical OT are important for a number of reasons, not the least of which is preservation of cinema history with clean versions of what were 3 of the most culturally iconic and influential films ever made. If Disney isn't going to release their own versions, it should be perfectly understandable why fans should be allowed to find alternative means to have the films that they grew up watching and cherishing.

Thanks for bringing this up, Khev! :duff I didn't even know there were 1080p versions out there. Just like you, I'd gladly buy official versions from Disney as well; but will always be grateful for a chance to have the OG OT on modern media in the absence of official ones.

I used to defend Lucas by arguing that if he as the creator considered the SE as HIS vision and he was embarrassed by the unaltered original versions then who was I to protest because wasn?t it always about respecting the wishes of the creator.

But now I just hope that someone at Disney will pry those originals from his dying grip and as he draws his last breath they make him sign over the rights to them lol

Those original negatives need to be given over to Lowry Digital.

I still do ;)

That?s also how I defend the PT. It?s his universe (or was), we?re just living in it. It was never going to turn out different so why get cut up about it.
