They just didn't want to validate Holdo's actions in any way. Going forward it will be called the Logray Maneuver, lol.

Khev.....

I am in shock!

I am in awe!

I haven?t watched unaltered SW straight thru in over 20 + years and that was in VHS...over 20 years dude!

This restoration left me speechless truly speechless.

The battle of Yavin will absolutely shock those who have only seen the SE.

I?m OG and I was floored with the effects and the flow of the battle!

Don?t even get me started on the freaking awesome menus and transfers!

The chapter stops are a thing of perfection.

For anyone who believes in their heart that they are fans of SW drop what you are doing and buy these immediately there is no higher form of SW perfection.

If Disney ever releases the unaltered in 4K of course I will immediately buy them BUT if they don?t I am fully content owning these as my go to SW for the rest of my fortunate life.

Perfection acheived.

It's truly mind blowing that the "updated" CGI effects are now so dated that the original practical effects *literally outclass them.* :thud:

Yes trench run is so much more edge of your seat and immersive now that you can just invest in the drama and visuals without the jarring distractions.

Oh man I'm so glad you got these, it literally is going home again and it just shows how much we've been deprived over the years. Wait till you watch Jedi which is an even better transfer. :duff

ROTJ 4K83 arrived today and WOW. *Finally* we get to watch scenes like the original Max Reebo sequence with just as much clarity as the rest of the movie. No more jumping back and forth from different cobbled together sources like we do with Harmy. Not knocking Harmy, the guy is a legend for what he gave us, but man, like with SW this is the only version of ROTJ I will ever watch again.

It's surreal to watch 1983 ROTJ sourced directly from an apparently pristine 35mm print transferred to a 1080p disc and then upscaled to 4K. :thud:

Yeah screw that $500 Disney 4K box set, lol. I'll get 4K TROS, TFA and RO and call it a day. Man I can't freaking wait for them to finish ESB 4K80. :rock

Why is this news buried in this crappy Star Wars 9 thread that no one but Jye and you talk in?

This news should be everywhere!!!!

Is Harmy's really "stitched together" compared to this new one 4K77? I'm talking about Star Wars not Jedi (don't care for that lousy sequel much anymore).

PM sent. :)

And yes Harmy's cuts get the job done well enough but he does mix and match a lot of different sources to get his desired result of "despecialized" editions where they feature lots of the clean up work of the SE's (recomposited shots, redone lasers and lightsabers, etc.) but without the added CGI or revised dialogue.

SW 4K77 is a true restoration by Team Negative 1 sourced directly from original 35mm theatrical film prints. They have completed SW and ROTJ and are working on ESB but that one is still a long ways off yet.

From the TN1 story group:

97% of project 4K77 is from a single, original 1977 35mm Technicolor release print, scanned at full 4K, cleaned at 4K, and rendered at 4K.

The other 3%:

About 1200 frames came from another 4K scan of a different 1977 Technicolor print. About 2000 frames came from a red faded, Eastman print of Star Wars. Roughly 2000 frames came from the same LPP print as The Silver Screen Edition (rescanned at 4K), another 1000 frames or so came from 4K scans of two different 1997 35mm prints of the Star Wars Special Edition. Finally, about 400 frames that couldn?t be sourced from anywhere else at the time they were needed, were upscaled from the official bluray. There are no frames from VHS, laserdisc or DVD.

So 16 seconds of the movie did *not* come from a 35mm print? I'm throwing mine away, lol.
