All those little bits that you guys are pointing out are part of the problem I have with the prequels. They are essentially Lucas's first draft. All his ideas are okay. It's just that he "wrote" (and I use that term loosely) the movies in such broad strokes, that when they play out, you see all those little inconsistencies in plot and character development that end up wrecking the story. If he had handed off his rough draft to a competent writer (like he did with the OT and handed his scripts to Kasdan), then they would have finessed the story so everything makes sense. A good director would have further made sure that everything came together properly.
GL had some good ideas, and great vision. He just didn't have the proper skills and craftmanship to carry it through to the end, and was either too arrogant, or just too dumb, to believe someone else could do a better job.
