Did anyone notice in ESB, when Luke was on Hoth, and Obi-wan's ghost appeared and said " You must go to the Degobah system, there you will meet Yoda, the Jedi Master that instructed me.

That was fine for me, but I wonder when Lucas wrote the script for TPM and added Qui-gon, didn't he realize that he had Obi-wan state that "Yoda" was his jedi master and instructor.

I just thought it was weird for the longest time after I saw TPM. I know it's really no big deal, but it had me wondering which idea was right for Lucas in the SW universe. With all the editing and changing of the lines he has done to the Blu rays, I thought maybe he would change that. :dunno

You can look at it 2 ways.

1, Like Irish had mentioned, GL was just making ____ up as he went along with the Whills only giving a very small footprint of a cohesive blue print.

2, One can technically assume that Yoda also had a hand in teaching Obi-Wan when he was a youngling.

Edit: khev beat me to it :lol

I believe the youngling scene in AOTC was supposed to convey that all Jedi first learn the fundamentals of the Force from Yoda at an early age before going out into the field as padawan learners. They broke protocol with Anakin and allowed Obi-Wan to do double duty in instructing him, partly due to Anakin's age and in part due to the consensus that his apprenticeship was not endorsed by all the Council Members.

If George had ironed that all out in advance he probably would have had Ben say, "There you will learn from Yoda, the first Jedi Master who instructed me," or something to that effect, but honestly that info would have hardly been important to Luke at that specific moment in time.

Yup, he was freezing his ass off, Obi-Wan could've said "There you will learn how to make pizza" and Luke would've agreed to it :lol

Was there any reason that Obi Wan couldn't continue Luke's training? I know he was dead, but his ghost was around plenty and chatty to boot!

Maybe Vader could detect the ghost? When Luke was in the trench, and Obi-Wan spoke to him, Vader picked up on it. He could probably use the ghost's force presence to find Luke.

Yep. :lol

"Luke!"

"Ben?"

"You will go to the Dagobah system, there you will...wait let me give you a little history lesson that dates back hundreds of years. Force sensitive children--or younglings if you will, particular those born in the Core Systems (as midichlorian counts often went under the radar in the Outer Rim) but I digress, *chuckle*, where was I? Oh yes, younglings, first are sent to--"

"Beeeennnn!" Luke collapses as Han arrives

Han: "Luke! Talk to me kid!"

Luke: "Ben, Dagobah, younglings..."

Ben: "Dammit!"

I thought it was part of Star Wars lore that the Dark Side cave on Dagobah masked Yoda's presence, which is why he chose to hide there. That is also where you see Obi-Wan's force ghost sitting around and having conversations with Luke. Before, it was just a voice and a brief vision on Hoth. Luke doesn't really get to communicate with Ben until he is on Dagobah, where his force ghost presence might have been harder for Vader and Palpatine to detect because it was overpowered by the presence of the evil of the Dark Side cave.

You might be right on the particular scenario, but this one is truly stumped me. remember when Luke was with R2 and he mentioned while he was looking around at Degaboh he said to R2 what are we doing here, but then he mentioned " Still, there's something awfully familiar about this place "

I've have gone over the entire PT, searching for any signs of Anakin ever visiting Degobah, and for that matter even Yoda, and from what I see neither has mentioned the planet or it's surroundings. Not even the Emperor hasn't mentioned it. If it is Luke feeling the force, through history, how can it be, when Anakin or Yoda never visited the planet in the PT.

I always thought that Luke and Leia should have been born there, instead of some random asteroid. Then that would would have made perfect sense.

I think it's kind of cool that there's one reference in the OT that can remain ambiguous and open to the imagination of the viewer without having to be spelled out and explained in tedious detail in the prequels :monkey1

Lucas probably missed that line, or he would've removed it from Empire when he was prepping the Blu Ray re-releases.

And maybe Padme could have died in the cave. :lecture

Did Yoda actually know about Degobah, because in ROTS they showed him escaping in the pod, but did he know he was going to end up there. and if so, Luke's comment still puzzles me. :dunno

There's a deleted scene on the ROTS DVD showing Yoda land on Dagobah that was originally going to be part of the ending montage.

The strange thing is it's there, no matter what format, dvd, cable, blu-ray, it is a line that is never been edited in the entire run of SW history, it had to have some significance to the story. I know it. :lecture

Ah ha! was that in the blu-ray, I'll have to dig out my dvd sets, I have every version of the sets since they decided to put it on dvd, I even have all the vhs versions as well of the OT. :clap
