One reviewer commented that TFA is the film Abrams *had* to make, that he was basically forced to take SW back to its roots in order to clear the palette after the fan division and overall series tarnish caused by the SE's and prequels. And that now going forward they can stop the parallels to previous films and take more risks. I think there might be real merit in that belief.

I thought the same thing...

I would think that it would be clear to all that TFA wears its ANH parallels on its sleeve. Like ROTJ before it it really wasn't trying to hide that fact.

I don't think Jedi is even close to being the clone that TFA is.

Hide the plans in the droid, who lands on desert planet pursued by troopers, is found by young person who has dreams of something bigger, gets off planet, ends up on death star, has to escape from death star, death star is destroyed... Add to that all the other things in the film that compare to the OT (death of a father figure to our hero, villain who was good has turned evil etc.. )

Other then the death star plot, Jedi is it's own film and a true sequel.. TFA is very much a copy of ANH... Perhaps that is not what you meant...

Regardless that is not what hurt the film for me... It was the lack of imagination in all the other aspects of the film... Nothing stood out for me... Nothing memorable that made me sit up and take notice. I know it did for many of you... But it did not for me :( AKH did it all better IMO.. The attack on the Death Star, The rescue and Escape from the Death Star, the Cantina moment, The Tie Fighters vs the Falcon... All done better in ANH... Much of that was the sense of fun and imagination that ANH has. Having said that, I admit it is unfair to compare TFA with ANH... But hell the movie goes out of it way to make sure we do it.

I am really hoping that a repeat viewing along with thinking of of some of the points you fellow freaks make will help me enjoy it more.

Pretty good movie. Wasn't perfect of course but felt like a new begining. Excited for more

Right now:

1. ESB
2. TFA/ANH
3. ROTJ

I don't see any sense in adding non-SW films to that line-up. :monkey1
1. SW
2. ESB
3. TFA
4. ROTJ

That's my ranking :)
Just wondering if anyone noticed these things.....

2. Was the meatball monster suppose to be the trash compactor monster? (That scene was really unneeded added action sequence.)

5. Did anyone catch Poe's amazing x-wing performance ? One long shot he takes out 8 tie's and free's the captives!! He's got the force!
2. No, different alien. The trash monster was a Dianoga, the ones in TFA Rathars.

5. I loved that scene. Bestifully shot aswell with Finn on the ground and Poe in the baclground owning TIEs

While they don’t specify how far along he was in training, he seemed pretty damn powerful throughout the movie to end up losing to a noob Rey, and he even seemed to have a bit of trouble with Finn.

Stopping lazers mid-air and leaving them there while doing other things, keeping Rey in a force hold as he casual walks around then force knocks her out.

Force grabs some first order guy and pulls him across the room ruthlessly. He really shouldn’t have even had to lift his saber against Finn. The Rey fight I think is ridiculous but theres a good chance they’ll explain that in episode 8 so I won’t dwell on that fight for now.

My take on that is that he looked powerful because he had Force powers while facing normal people. I think he is a bit full of himself and thinks he is more powerful than he is. It shows when Rey turns the tables on him when she is interrogated. So I'd say powerful but not in total control of his powers.

The shot he took from Chewies bowcaster (and that weapon is powerful, they established that earlier in the film) seemed to be really slowing him down. Plus he is obviously toying with Finn and he gets a lucky shot in on his arm, then Kylo swats him away like a fly.

Those two injuries and the fact that IMO he is powerful, but to emotional, unstable and not in total control of his powers make the fight with Rey more of a challenge for him. Especially since we have been shown that Rey is starting to feel the Force and is a good fighter. And he is still underestimating her, trying to turn her to the dark side. Then Rey lets the Force guide her, she is calm, in control, giving her the power to defeat the injured, unstable (and probably surprised at her sudden "awakening" in the Force) Kylo.

That is my take on that scene.

Safe . . . Predictable . . . Carbon(ite) Copy . . .

If One expects anything less, then one must be a Droid.

It was good to see Han die with Honor . . .

Saw a late showing tonight...
I was hoping for something more original but got a bunch of the same stuff all over again. It was one of the reasons ROTJ failed and why I dislike that film so much. I was entertained with the new film; I liked Rey, the ships were better than the prequel stuff, real nice long shot on that X-Wing maneuvering in battle, the final scene was nice. A little too cute at times which has become the problem of so many movies today. I have questions but will no doubt find answers when I seek them. And was that a blue hoth jacket joke I saw or was I over-thinking things?
I may pick up a few of the small Hasbro stuff but no way am I going to do Sideshow or Hot Toys expensive stuff. It was fun but not good enough to pour more crazy money into the machine.

Has anyone referred to Kylo Ren as Darth Schnoz yet or am I the first? And all that plastic surgery really tweaked the lips of Fisher. It was weird watching her deliver her lines.

They should have given hints of her abilities early in the film to make those later scenes make more sense. Seriously, Luke who is the son of Anakin ******** Skywalker could barely move a lightsaber from the snow in the beginning of the ESB after receiving some basic training from one of the best Jedi ever, but this chick can mind **** a guy who's almost a Jedi, use jedi mind tricks on people, grab the lighsaber from 20 feet away using the force, and completely dominate the villain who could easily stop a blaster shot in mid air? GTFOH....

I'd rep you if I could...great post and gif...LOL

A lot in the movie was a stretch. And I'm not even gonna start with Carrie Fisher's face. Rey easily defeating Kylo, Solo naively walking up to Kylo in the heat of a battle, a Stormtrooper gaining conscience and successfully wielding Luke's own light saber, which by the way was just placed in an unlocked box in a basement strewn among other junk, another bigger Death Star yet still no effective shield or defense to its vulnerabilities. I expected more after all the hype and came away scratching my head, and with more appreciation for the PT. Only figure I'd consider getting is Rey and only if a sweet deal comes along.

ROTJ is not better than TFA in my opinion.

ROTJ sucked. I can't believe people crap all over the prequels but loved that movie. One thing I liked about TFA is the aliens among the crowds were so much better than what we saw in ROTJ and the prequels and they were a lot less cute and intrusive. ROTJ was everything wrong with this franchise.

Damn . . . someone should hashtag that all the way to 30 Rock (Fallon's trainwreck) by Monday . . .

I could write the cheesy script already . . . .

I still need to see it again but here are the stuff that keep annoying me.
Why do Rey has to be a skywalker or anybody related to the original trilogy, cant she be just like Finn a complete new héroine?
Kylo is really a pour excuse of a Sith if he cants sense his cousin, well he did not sense solo behind him so...
Poe Dameron just vanishing on Finn, showing later like "oh dont worry where i was, ohhh my jacket suits you great!".
Chewie 40years long best buddy of Solo, get only a shot of him nodding his head "oh naw" and leia go hugs a stranger... Seriously?
The rest i can deal with until the next episode.

My ranking:

1. ESB (the BEST)
2. SW (the ORIGINAL)
3. ROTJ (despite the crappy Ewoks I still like this movie)
4. TFA

:p
11. ROTS

38. AOTC

69. TPM

I wasn't even thinking of that but yeah, maybe he could. Though personally I've never seen him in action. I know he was in Stargate (Atlantis?) but I never watched it.

Yeah, Joe Flanigan. He had a part in Stargate Atlantis that reminded me a lot of Han Solo, quite cool.

I was looking for a "right on man" reaction gif to post in response to Snoopy and came across this familiar gif:

Now I can't help but feel a touch of sadness at seeing him making a farewell salute. :-(

Right back at you, Sir.

I was sad to see Han die...he was my childhood hero get killed but when the scene played out I saw no other outcome. :( :monkey2

From conversations 120+ posts back: Rey is Luke's daughter.

That's what a friend and I were guessing.

After seeing the movie I want Sphero's RC BB-8. :yess:
