Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread
ROTS is pretty childish. Especially the opening.
Part of the reason I can't get through it. The laughable Grievious character, the R2 slapstick, the comedy battle droids...palpatine's weird faces. As bad as anything in TPM.
Sure it has it's cheesy and childish moments sprinkled in, but it's nothing compared to TPM.
Young Anakin and Padme moments, pod race, Anakin flying around in the starfighter shouting "Woah!", "That's gotta hurt", "Uh oh!"...etc.
Oh and don't forget Jar Jar.
I don't think I'll ever be able to sit through that **** again. The only reason to watch TPM is for the duel of the fates.
Grievous might have been a bit goofy, but at least his design is very visually appealing. The retarded battle droid moments and R2 "humor" make up a very small percentage of RotS whereas in TPM young Anakin is in practically every damn scene.
I think the majority of the PT is absolute garbage, but it's not all bad. I thought Ian McDiarmid was fantastic, and we get to see a lot more of him in RotS than in the other two.
Lightsaber battles for the most part were well-choreographed. Certainly better than the OT despite what the purists might think. I love the OT, but I was never awed at the Luke vs Vader lightsaber duels. Hell, I've seen more athletic/agile
sword fights. Just looks like two people trying to wack each other with sticks, very slowly.
I remember seeing the duel of the fates for the first time and thinking "THIS is what a Sith vs Jedi battle should look like". They're not just normal humans, they're galactic warriors that have the power to move objects as well as themselves, and wield weightless weapons that can cut through steel. There
should be high jumps and swift spins. They
should be moving much faster than a normal person could.
