Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

What about Obi-Wan always having a blue lightsaber though?

Well he wasn't a Master at first in PM but yeah your right he should have upgraded to green like Yoda had and Qui Gon. However since in the original Star Wars he had a blue one because Lucas didn't come up with the green one yet, maybe they decided to keep him with a blue on on ROTS to stay consistent with what he had in the OT.

Luke upgraded to green when he declared himself master as well. So I always thought green represented being a master. But who knows? LOL

For some reason it popped into my head tonight - Luke's question in ESB - ''How will I know the good side from the bad?'' Well apparently in this universe good and evil are pretty clearly distinguishable. Everyone you killed on the Death Star was evil, don't worry about it. And Evil Jedis will always, without exception, wield red lightsabers - jot this down if you have to but I don't think you should need to as its fairly straightforward - they will also tend to wear black outfits. Heck some of them will outright look like demons - but failing that just remember, red lightsabers. And that's it Luke. You see, we do indeed deal in absolutes here.

Don't forget if their name is "Darth". That's another thing the prequels sort of ruined. ".

:lecture

The SW Annotated Screenplays (1997) prior to George's PT muckings shed all kinds of interesting light on things that were changed for the PT. And it really shows when you go back and listen to old OT dialogue. During the OT Luke had to use *both* the light and dark sides of the Force but he was just supposed to maintain balance so he didn't succumb to the Dark Side. Deflecting blasters? Light. Looking into the future? Light. Guiding torpedoes into an exhaust port to kill millions of people? Dark. That's why he was allowed to choke those Gamorrean guards. Was he a "Sith" then? No, he was an enlightened Jedi (or almost Jedi) maintaining balance.

The idea was that a Jedi was always supposed to calmly choose which Force powers to use, always erring on the side of "knowledge and defense." Once you get lazy and just start Force choking your way through *everything* then you'll be intoxicated and consumed. It was cool then, and certainly not spelled out in the films. But it just seemed to make sense and as logical as you can make something that mystical in a science fantasy film.

Why do all Sith's wield red light sabers?

Why do they have lightsabers AT ALL? Remember ROTJ? "His lightsaber, my master." "Ah, yes, a JEDI'S weapon. By now you must know your father can never be turned."

Vader being the only Sith who wielded a lightsaber was just one more thing that made him special. But of course when it came time to script The Phantom Menace George was just too lazy to invent cool new Sith names (they're all Darth now!) or weapons (they all use lightsabers now!) Alas.

Yup!

What a loa of BS that Yoda and Palps ended up having lightsabers.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

My understanding is that the lightsabers are also symbolic, they identify a jedi much like the samurai with the katana. The colours are blue apprentice, green force master. Red sabers are much different as the crystals they use are not natural like the ones the jedi harvest. I think the sith create their own crystals is that right?

New movie will have all the same dumb established rules.

I bet Yoda's family will even work in a lightsaber factory.

Ok, you may continue your discussion on how awesome Star Wars could be. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I just read an early draft for Episode 7.

So basically it starts out towards the end of ANH. Luke is about to blow up the Death Star when all of the sudden, a much older Han comes back through time in his Falcon being followed by a pissed off Bounty Hunter that is tracking him. Due to this event, Luke fails to blow the Death Star, and the Empire succeeds in destroying Yavin and wipes out the Rebel Alliance. Older Han meets with younger Han and explains how Luke was the hero and eventually became a Jedi Master. Old Han is shocked to hear that Luke is a loser who blew the mission and is now living back on Tatooine getting drunk and starting bar fights all the time in the Cantina. Old Han decides that he will dedicate the rest of his life in this time to help rebuild the Rebel Alliance in hopes to put things back on track. With Leia dead, young Han now falls for a different girl back on Tatooine while trying to talk to Luke and convince him to re-join the Rebel Alliance. With the Death Star still there, the Emperor and Vader celebrate their victory and have no clue that Vader has kids that survived. They constantly make fun of the poor young Rebel rookie who blew it and make him an honorary member of the Empire. R2D2, after being severely damaged in the dog fight, was never repaired and eventually recycled for scrap metal. Vader plots to knock off Grand Moff Tarkin because he is tired of being #2. Jabba The Hut finds out that there are now 2 Han's in this time and goes nuts with anger. He orders all Bounty Hunters to find them and doubles the reward for doing so. Obi Wan doesn't bother to appear as a force ghost or inform him of seeing Yoda because what's the point? Luke is a loser who choked and couldn't get it done because of a mere distraction. Yoda dies alone on Dagobah with no purpose. Wedge joins the Empire because he loves being a pilot more then who's side he is on. His thinking is, if you can't beat them, join them!!

I don't know about you guys, but this is shaping up to be a really great sequel with a lot of plot twists. Man that JJ coming up with the whole alternate time line story.. how original is that? :)

Sounds amazing.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

"The sales tax of factory built lightsabers is in dispute...."

"....to say nothing of reported quality control issues leading to inadvertent amputations and apparently even fatalities. Two Jedi engineers and a team of intergalactic lawyers have been sent to resolve the situation"

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Apologies Vintij I criminally overlooked that. Most certainly I'm sure the Rules of Acquisition would have something to say in this situation.
:hi5: :1-1:

Actually, seeing as this is a new trilogy.. I wouldn't put it past JJ to introduce some vaguely Trek-esque geezers, just to stir the pot a bit. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Since the announcement of JJ as director actually I've been wondering will Simon Pegg be in this, afterall Star Wars rather than Star Trek was his first love too. (though Pegg hates the PT and has actively spoken out about them)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

He'd go alright actually - as long as he's a creepy alien, or smart alec rag tag galaxy hopper or something.

I'll ****ing throw kahkah at the screen if there's more wind bag senators or politician types taking over this new series. :cuss

In the very first outline of Return of the Jedi according to J.W. Rinzler, Palpatine was going to fight with a lightsaber. So it wasn't something that GL retconned for the prequels.
