That's what everyone was saying about The Phantom Mess before it opened. And that was from the man himself.... Lucas.

This is Disney now.

I expect nothing inventive. At least Lucas was inventive. Disney regurgitates. There is nothing inventive anymore about Disney.

You know I think it's criminal that Lucas doesn't get more praise for his inventive creativity. Maybe not as a director but for more artistic side of the prequels.

The probably had Hamill stay at the set so his absence wouldn't blow the storyline. If he was spotted elsewhere, then everyone would know that he is barely in the film, which is going to take away some of the hype.

As it stands there are rumours, but we won't know till the film is released.

Yeah, in time I'm sure it will show better. I mean, he is the guy who invented STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES. I don't like the PT much but it does show a lot of inventiveness in design. Now it's not Lucas doing the drawings but it is thru his inspiration, so there's something there.

Anyway, we'll all know more once there's three Disney movies to balance the scales and see if they did any better with their STAR WARS.

i'm pretty open minded about where the new sequels should go, and whether TFA will heavily feature the original gang or not. I'm not looking for another original 1977 SW mind blowing experience because I know I'm not going to get that. I'm not 5 anymore and space fantasy adventures wouldn't do that to me at my age! I just want a good story with entertaining action sequences and most importantly, with characters that draw me in and make me feel invested in their journey. I've gotten that with the Disney Marvel movies (for the most part) and with the Singer X-Men movies. I think those movies are immensely engrossing and I enjoy re-watching them all the time. Is that setting my bar too low? I don't think it is. Making an entertaining action movie with good characters seems to be a lot more difficult than you would think. Just look at ASM and MOS.

And look at the prequels! Lucas couldn't even deliver on the most basic element of storytelling: well written characters with motivations that made sense. Sure, everything looked pretty, but that's about it.

Wor-Gar: very true about waiting to judge the Disney versions once there are three. ESB elevated the first movie and the trilogy as a whole. If it had just been SW and ROTJ, they may have just ended up as cult favorites and relegated to a niche, much like they were in the 90s.

Is that supposed to be the cliff-hanger? Like ooooooh he'll be back as the old wizened Jedi.

They should have burned out the fogies in this first sequel and moved on to new characters in the second.

Yeah, I agree. They got 1/4 of the way there at least.

Alot of you hated JJ and made fun of him on the Trek movies- now you all are saying TFA will be the next great think in SW and films in general. Prepare to be disappointed...

Well, I don't like his Star Trek films because he turned it into Star Wars. I think there's a good chance he'll keep Star Wars as Star Wars though. He was always more a fan of SW as he even admitted when he took the Star Trek job.

I think Star Trek needs to get revamped by someone with Nolan's sensibilities. Hard core, dramatic, maybe even dare I say gritty. Might be more interesting.

Star Wars needs to be light, fun, swift and sweepingly grandiose.

That's not a bad idea, but so far the best ST film is the 2009 version, which is fun and light.

Add a few Tornados to ST and you're good to go with the gritty.
