If Star Wars had always been treated as an opened ended saga like MCU, I think I'd be ok with this unsurprising news, but the original trilogy had a start and an end, the prequels were good for an opportunity to see how things wound up where they were in the OT, despite execution issues. Episode 7-9 have always felt unnecessary as the Skywalker story felt concluded, successfully. To hear they may drag it out to 10-12 or something is just crazy, from a storytelling standpoint, but, I guess kids and teens don't care about a story with end and such and gladly will flock to more adventures.

It'll be interesting to see if an Episode 10 is made and flops on the shoulders of new characters only.

7 8 and 9 would have been much better had lucas actually made them when the original cast was still in their prime... instead he did nothing but milk the OT for years eg special edition re run in theaters, by the time he wanted to make new ones the original cast was too old to tell the continuation story that he had penned many many years ago. So he ditched 7 8 9 and did the prequels. Had he done 7 8 and 9 shortly after rotj ended we would have had more compelling stories with the characters we love so much...

Depending on what Star Wars is to you as a viewer, yeah. For me, Star Wars was the story of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader when the OT was all we had, then it became the saga of Anakin Skywalker and it worked because the PT flowed right into the overall story of the OT, a story of evil undone.

So if that's what Star Wars is to you as a viewer, then these other stories are overkill and oversaturation. When LFL was private, things were different, when Disney took over, they start pushing SW on the market more so than Lucas ever had. I was grocery shopping the other day and there were ****ing napkins and paper towels with BB-8 on them, you can't buy simple, common groceries without Star Wars shoved in your face.

It just feels like an effort to make as much money as possible off something lucrative and not storytelling for the sake of storytelling.

Yeah I'm in the same camp as you maul. But the nice thing is, if you go back, 4-6 stand, 1-3 stand alone, and 1-6 form a fully completed circle within themselves. However episode 7 already can't stand on its own as its a direct (fanfic) continuation and thus neither can 8 or 9.

In my headcanon the story ends at ep 6 because TFA just destroys everything they accomplished and makes our heroes into losers for reasons discussed many times already. I really hope they didn't turn Luke into a pure coward regardless if I watch it or not.

I hope Disney drives Star Wars into the ground so it becomes about as cool as Archie comics.

I hope Avatar 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.5 and 7 are the ultimate adventure stories of the future.

I hope China officially becomes the world's #1 super power.

I hope I live to see robots replace us.

Two of those are happening as we speak....but which, I'll let you guess.

I hope Women drive Men into the ground.

Walmart is already introducing shelf scanning robots. They move independently around the store checking the shelves.

Only a matter of time before they can give customers information, stock the items, and people use them to pay directly. No more humans.

Stop going to see Star Wars movies and there won't be anymore Star Wars movies. Simple.
