Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I saw the movie and killing Luke does feel like a slap in the face. There is no other way around it; Disney wants to hit the big red reset button and create a new generation of Star Wars fans with all the potential lucrative books, tv series, cartoons, video games and new extended universe stuff. If Luke had stayed alive, his character is far too big to remain on the sidelines without dominating the central narrative...So unfortunately he has to go.

What a shame! This movie could have been the first to break new left wing progressive ground and break the ageism barriers!

Anyone seen SNIKT?

I wanted to hear his thoughts on Grey Jedi and the star crossed romance between Snoke and Rey.

I have agreed with almost all of the criticisms raised here along with some of mine own, except this film having a SJW agenda I didn't really get that feeling. I felt the direction and mishandling of Luke, lack of explanation/backstory, and numerous pointless subplots made the movie what it is.

A question I have since so many have mentioned it being a factor, is does age really have anything to do with whether you enjoyed it or not. I am 28 and grew up with the original trilogy on VHS where I had to sit and listen to Leonard Maltin talk with Lucas for 15 minutes before being able to watch. I watched the prequels as they released and think they tell a fantastic story of how everything came to pass, the direction/execution and acting was primary for the hatred of them along with Jar Jar of course.

This new trilogy seems so pointless, Return was a perfect ending to the story. This new film is all about subverting expectations and taking the story in a new direction, but does this story even need to be told?

What do you call killing this cutie and leaving the other weird girl to ruin the movie?

ZaChary and Khev love it, this is great. Couldn't have written it any better myself.

What an unexpected team up it will be, two unlikely allies. The two of them will be just like Kylo and Rey squaring off against all the lobster guards. I can already hear Jye loling off in the distance.

When I read this at first I thought you wrote squirting off against the lobster guards.

I mean I can agree that I didn't like Rose as a character, but Leia her self was an extremely independent, capable, resourceful woman in the original trilogy despite her being rescued and I feel this film wasn't any different. I also hated the film, but for very different reasons.

Reposting the correct version of this vid because ALL of the points Mark makes and the statements of the others are valid and important, and so that no one accidentally watches the short version.

Oh, and that "crap music" is Johnny Cash, so, so much for your career as a music critic...

Oh wow am I the lone voice in the wilderness on this one? :lol

That's funny because other than ALIEN: Covenant I've pretty much been in agreement with all the naysayers for almost all of 2017's films. Fine then I'll pine for Rose and Porg PF's off in the corner by myself then, lol.

There is more of us just sitting in the corner, quiet on this one. We're waiting for the gnashing of teeth to quiet down a bit.

Anyone seen SNIKT? I'm concerned. :panic:

I would say the negative reviews on RT appeared pretty much within hours of release....at that time I questioned it as well as a possible hack from some super pissed off nerds...

But this is without a doubt the single most polarizing SE release ever. I can respect those who do not like it, although I wonder which one of the theories posted for a plot they would have prefers more. My guess is you will find just as much disagreement on that topic.

I really liked it a lot. But Inlove being surprised and I love the weird stuff...

Like tossing the saber and drinking that milk were great scenes....it set up perfectly how much he didn’t care about anything anymore.

Snoke dying at Kylie hand was nothing more than Kylo seeing his chance to seize power and taking it.

So no loss in Snoke dying.

A lot of the hate is definetly geared toward no getting answers people expected......

But then Luke did tell you guys over and over that “this was not going to go the way you think.”

So explaining who is and what does he want doesn't matter? He was in TFA too. He's literally meaningless, which makes his role in TFA pointless. It's lazy...
