Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

These films aren’t about his journey and the film alluded to it and his “status” several times making it clear his role. I’m not challenging, I’m simply regurgitating what was on the screen. Based on that I took his sacrifice as “giving himself” to the force not just disappearing.

Thats kinda what I got out of it too. Going again tonight to soak it in a little better, but at this point I have a feeling ep9 will have spirit luke still around, dont think we’ve seen the end of Luke in these flicks yet.

Here's a shorter clip of that without the crap music:

I don’t think Luke is done either....abilities ghost Yoda possessed it’ll be interesting what Luke will do.

Indeed and i don't think we saw Ghost Yoda pull some lightning just for the visual. I think Luke might be more badass in EP9.

It's inevitable, a new Star Wars movie comes out and it's polarizing amongst fans who will argue their point until they're blue in the face. Rotten Tomatoes currently has The Last Jedi with a 93% Fresh rating with a 56% User Score. The numbers do look fishy, especially when you take the Cinemascore rating into consideration. Cinemascore takes in-person opinion surveys from audiences exiting theaters at the conclusion of movies in an effort to get a realistic audience score. The Cinemascore "A" rating would imply that real-life audience opinion is much more in line with the critics than the online User Scores, suggesting that something may be off with the ratings over at Rotten Tomatoes User's section.

It's 2017 and troll culture is very much a part of everyday life on the internet, but nowhere is that more apparent than the infamous website 4chan. Anonymous users on the forum-like site have admitted to making multiple "burner" accounts to give The Last Jedi a bad score on Rotten Tomatoes in an effort to anger Star Wars fans. One user said that he/she had over a dozen accounts specifically to trash The Last Jedi, which apparently is really easy to do and only takes a few minutes. However, to write a few bad reviews takes some more time and really shows the effort in the mission to tear down the movie.

Some of the reviews have even been credited to bots, which further politicizes the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, much like the last United States election. Reviews for The Last Jedi tend to use some of the same rhetoric as Trump supporters including such phrases as "Social Justice Warrior" and "forced diversity" along with some more that aren't appropriate to write. It's fun to hate on the popular things, but the internet trolls of 2017 may have just raised the bar up a few notches and into a perverse art form.

One thing that remains to be true is that The Last Jedi is a polarizing movie in the Star Wars universe. Many fans support Rian Johnson's ability to take risks and make a Star Wars movie that nobody has ever seen as opposed to J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens, which was criticized for being too much like A New Hope. While several fans flat out hate the movie, and blame Johnson and Disney for ruining the franchise. Whatever the case may be, the User Score at Rotten Tomatoes may have some fake news thrown in. You can read some of the user reviews via Rotten Tomatoes.

The good thing about a 2nd viewing is that I know I won't miss much if I use the restroom.

This is one of the rare movies i want someone else's cut other than the director's. A gaffers cut? Best boy cut? (if that position is around in 2017, it's probably best person now).

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Just got back from seeing this for the second time. Loved it the first time and loved it even more after the second viewing. As a life long Star Wars fan it's great to see that the franchise still has plenty to offer me. The fact that Rian Johnson is getting his own trilogy is even better news. The movie, unsurprisingly is making a killing at the box office and is one of the best reviewed Star Wars films of all time so LFL will want repeat their success with this film. All a matter of perspective folks...very easy for a very loud minority to assume that they speak for an entire community when they don't like something.

Rian Johnson?

Rian Johnson?

He's been posting here all day, so he probably didn't even see it twice or he has been posting sitting in the theater. He is probably going to watch his twilight and hunger games movies after this.

No, it's not a beautiful ending.
No it is not logical.
No, it's not about the old guard that does not want to turn the page.
These characters deserved better.
It's simple as that.

Now someone make a video of sad shocked Hamill, just like the one with affect.Screenshot_20171218-011616.jpg

Just lol... Is this Disney's response to bad user scores - they are from fake accounts!

Every time someone doesn't agree with someone else these days (from politics right through to movie reviews) it seems that rather than try to understand the other other persons viewpoint or engage them in debate people just resort to name calling or blaming some Russian plot or 4chan troll force for making it appear that there are in fact large numbers of people that just don't agree with them.

I left a bad review because the film didn't work for me ... I guess I'm part of the plot then.

Could it be possible that the reviewer scores are over inflated because reviewers left overly positive reviews because Disney are so influential in the industry that they work in?

Maybe the film is deeply divisive and for every person that liked it there is another person who disliked it? Maybe it's that simple? Na it's probably a plot of some kind.

Soooooooo snoke is just some ugly crusty force user guy? What the first order said let’s get the ugliest force user guy we can find? Also how tf did they get so powerful? Once Darth Vader and palpatine died it should been over for them

Risk for risk’s sake?

TLJ is the soft reboot Star Wars fans deserve, but not the one they need right now. As an Episode VIII it makes a great Episode IX.

Did you go to the Facebook page I posted?

I have agreed with almost all of the criticisms raised here along with some of mine own, except this film having a SJW agenda I didn't really get that feeling. I felt the direction and mishandling of Luke, lack of explanation/backstory, and numerous pointless subplots made the movie what it is.

A question I have since so many have mentioned it being a factor, is does age really have anything to do with whether you enjoyed it or not. I am 28 and grew up with the original trilogy on VHS where I had to sit and listen to Leonard Maltin talk with Lucas for 15 minutes before being able to watch. I watched the prequels as they released and think they tell a fantastic story of how everything came to pass, the direction/execution and acting was primary for the hatred of them along with Jar Jar of course.

This new trilogy seems so pointless, Return was a perfect ending to the story. This new film is all about subverting expectations and taking the story in a new direction, but does this story even need to be told?
