Yeah Kylo's scar war Rian Johnson thinking it looked stupid where it was originally located.
Sums up his entire attitude towards TFA, he just said **** it I'm gonna do my thing.

Also, let's not forget how Kylo leaves his helmet where he kills Han on Starkiller base, but then still has it in TLJ, to smash it a few minutes later (and yes, it's the same one, not a spare, it's damaged in the exact same spots).

I think the story line in TLJ sucked, RJ should've introduced the Knights of Ren, and shown how Kylo and the KOR undermine and kill Snoke to take over the FO.
Then the ending scene could've been Luke taking down the AT-ATs using the force, followed by Luke and Rey fighting Kylo and the KOR. Luke could've been killed, and Rey badly injured but escapes, setting up Episode 9 for Rey to avenge Luke and take down or turn Kylo.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and armchair quarterbacking is easy as well, but honestly, your few lines that make me think, "damn that would have been cool". I really think the team that thought TLJ through just didn't have a very good feel for what a lot of people expected from the build-up of part 7. I would much rather have dived into more on the Knights , than 90% of what was actually shown.

Makes sense, Rian wrote TLJ before TFA's release. So he had the script but had no idea what fans would react to.
And he most likely stuck to his guns and didn't change much, probably supported by Kathleen Kennedy. I doubt a director has the time to read about fan expectations anyway. That and he just clearly has a weird take on Star Wars.

The last jedi reminds me a lot to the matrix reloaded, a lot.
With their messages of failure and killing yourself to save the day

The way rose saved finn reminded me of neo saving trinity.

The way their hideout was destroyed reminded me a lot of how at the end neo morpheus and trinity had to run away and be rescued by another ship...

The casino scenes were as pointless and they even looked the same as the merovingian scenes. Same outcome.

2 hours of big special effects and action to end up no dofferent than where they were at the beginning.

Rey being a mary sue the same way neo was.

Neo going to see the oracle and being disappointed the way rey was with luke.

The themes and structure of both movies is very similar
A lot of colorful noise
Paper thin story
Ending in failure and despair.

TMR>TLJ

Maybe they'll have the Knights of Ren in Episode 9, hunting down brother Kylo since they sensed him kill Snoke. Then baby Rey and him will join forces and they'll kill off all the Knights as easily as they killed all the lobster guards.

Or maybe those were the lobster guards.

Or maybe we'll never hear about them again.

i would actually watch this

this would get me excited

but thanks to rian johnson now i know better than to hope or speculate

thanks rian for destroying hope.

Hey.. Right now Khev is watching TLJ.. Saying to himself.. " Man this movie IS ****.. I can't let the freaks at the board know my true feelings.. Must find something to like about the film...."

But you know he is struggling.. The sweat is just pouring off him :lol

J/k Khev :lol

Seeing DiFabio’s Starkiller base photos with hnnnnng made me laugh my *** off.

I have to say DiFabio’s last few posts about the conflicts in SW are out of the park homeruns.

But for me it’s ok to go back to the well and just let it all go and enjoy the pew pew pews.

Also the lightsaber fight has Luke taking the bullet time pose, though that's from the 1st matrix film.

Over time this movie will be known as being worse than the prequels including phantom menace.
It will happen. The movie made its billion and everything, sure, but the reputation it will have will be as the worst stsr wars movie of all time.
Thats rian Johnson's legacy. Having created the worst movie in the entire franchise.
It willl happen. Rose toys will end up in bargain bins just like jar jar did.
The money part is only relevant of how this movie will affect other future movies.
Most people feel tired now, like watching these is like a chore

I already feel this way currently.

I'm back, temporarily at least.

Just thought I'd report on my second viewing...

Packed theater, once again. Crowd applauded at end, even laughed at the awkward humor. Big reactions to Holdo's hyperspace-kamikaze.

Still love the movie, if anything, some of the things that bothered me the first time didn't bother me the second.

I think that general audiences are loving the movie, despite "ultra-fans" crying foul over things they don't like. Even heard one woman, after she exited the theater, saying something about why were there so many people complaining about the movie, she loved it.

A lot of people love the twilight movies too...

Welcome back buddy, just got back from my second viewing as well! :rock

Liemax 3D, 75% full, and the crowd reacted just as they did opening night. Laughed at the jokes, ooh'd and ah'd at the epic stuff, someone let out a "that is cool!" at Holdo splitting Snoke's ship, etc.

Yeah, I can definitely say I love this movie. It really hit me how much I like every single one of Luke's lines and the acting in this film is sensational! And not just Hamill but little moments like Leia and Holdo getting choked up when both saying "May the Force be with you" at the same time. Good stuff.

I was surprised at how quickly everything happened. Before I knew it the casino planet came and went, Rey was off the island and then the tree was burning. The film really moved despite the run time. And I totally missed on my first viewing that Rey hid away the Jedi texts on the Falcon before leaving the island. The scene where the skim speeders go all serpentine with the red dust spraying everywhere might be some of my favorite visuals of the entire saga. Really amazing.

I didn't come away thinking it was the greatest SW movie ever or even best film this year (BR 2049 is still tops) but I did come away with the firm knowledge that I straight up love this flick.

A lot of people love the twilight movies too...

50 shades of grey was number one at the box office... made 600 million box office...

also
If it was up to The Last Jedi fans then Spiderman 3 would have been the GREATEST spiderman movie of ALL time

Has anyone explained why Luke has the Just-for-Men/Chuck Norris dyed beard/hair when he's in hologram mode?

It was so weird when he first appears on Crate because in every TLJ promo shot (and throughout his Ach-oo scenes) he has a visibly greyed beard, so I noticed the black beard immediately. And you instantly think - he took the time to dye his beard to go into battle?:dunno

Is there some thematic connection between dyeing... and dying? Judging also by Holdo, does the resistance/rebellion have some kind of tradition of dying hair just before self sacrifice?
I think people are trying to read too much into things. I believe Luke was projecting himself the way he sees himself at his then current age. As for the saber, that was likely a result of him having recently been around the his father’s old lightsaber. I imagine he had long since left his green saber behind, hence why his astral projection did not use it.

Anyway, I saw the film last night and I really liked it. I only had two qualms with the movie. The subplot with the casino seemed kind of forced and the thing with Leia surviving was a bit much. Outside of that stuff, I enjoyed the movie and I look forward to seeing where the franchise goes from here.

This movie is no where near the travesty of AOTC. The negativity feels like over exaggeration. The Force Awakens is still a better film and nothing will beat the original three films, but I did not come out of that theater in any way disappointed.

However, I think there’s just so many Star Wars fans out there now that you can’t please a vast majority of them. There’s always going to be whining.

This is all you said that was understandable.

My regret of 2017 is that I didn't see this in a theater.
