Well yeah. But if a studio goes under, the rights will just be bought out by someone else.

So really, the only two that matter in our world, outside of Hollywood, are the sequels, and possibly directors. If you care about that sort of thing.

Trying to give the benefit of the doubt here...

I'm not a huge comic book movie fan. I did like the first IM - but never saw the second. X-Men was ok...but I liked the prequel that came out more. Never saw Capt. America or Thor. I did enjoy Avengers and found it entertaining. But I will say I love Nolan's Batman. But it's more because I'm a huge Nolan fan (love all his movies) and a huge Bale fan. I would see anything either of them did - and if it's a project they do together, it's a win-win for me.

I just don't get some people wanting to have bragging rights because this film made more than that film. Let's face it they both have been (or are on track to be) successful movies. All I care about is whether or not I enjoyed the film and if because of that, I will be 1) seeing it again at the theater, and/or 2) buying it on BluRay when it comes out.

I know there are probably some that wanted TDKR to beat Avengers, but not even analyst were predicting it could. Sure they were raising the question but most people were still only predicting in the $190's realistically. No 2D film has a shot against a 3D film when they're this big and Avengers had absolutley zero competition. The 2nd place finisher behind it was Think Like A Man and it brought in $8million for the weekend. This appears to be doing well enough for the all time 2D gross but it was always a pipe dream that this had a shot. And of course no one could have predicted the massacre and like Ledgers death no one will ever be ever to quantify it's effects. One thing is for certain though. With this likely to open to more than TDK did it's looking more and more likely that Ledger's death didn't have as much an effect as people speculated.

I've been saying from day one that it was an unrealistic expectation of the studio to even think TDKR would even tie, let alone beat Avengers.

Not a bad opening weekend.

Proves that Ledgers death had nothing to do with TDK's opening weekend. :lol

Agreed. Outside of the tragedy, TDKR still wouldn't beat TA. Let's face it, the movie was only in 2D, had a longer run time, and not as family orientated as TA.

Don't get me wrong, I also love Batman, but there was just too many variables against it from breaking the record anyway. I also don't believe it will have as good of legs as TA either simply because of the last reason I mentioned.

It still had a great opening and it will still make a ton of $!

Lastly, my prayers go out to the families of the Colorado incident. :(

They own the theatre?

No. But it happened at the premier of their movie. I think it was simply because it was guaranteed to be sold out and he wanted a full house but I guess we'll see as time goes on. WB certainly was not obligated to do it but it's an awesome gesture.

Avengers and Spider-Man before it were also guaranteed. Dude was a Nolan Batman fan. I'm not sure why you guys downplay that. :huh

So what if he was? Nolan, his films, WB and the character concept of Batman, are in NO WAY responsible for the actions of this asshat. Are you suggesting any different?

Yes, I'm suggesting that at the urging of Warner Brothers, Nolan, himself, sent that ********* a check for $25 and an envelope of his pubic hairs to personally finance this man's actions and hopefully create a tragedy that would deliver the same type of hype they got when Ledger passed. :lecture:lecture:lecture
