The more I think of it, the more I make my peace with this price point.
First -- this will set the parameters for the entire line. In a way, a smarter move than the Crack of Doom diorama. These are big, complex statues, and they will appeal to the higher end of the collector's market; definitely not action figures, definitely not for kids. It's us older guys with a chunk of disposable income that this is targeting; just like the PFs and the 1:1 scale busts. Sideshow's SW action figure line will still be huge and wonderful, but this is something for us who are willing to pay extra for excellence in pure, unadulterated polystone. (And this will be excellent!)
Second -- this is the same price range as the Marvel pieces, after all. And while there's going to be a larger ES here than with the, say, Captain America vs. Red Skull -- well, surely Anakin and Obi-Wan are slightly more popular!
I know lots of SW collectors got into this via Hasbro (even I did), but, again, this is the kind of a product that's been a long time coming. I've already stopped even thinking about getting action figures some time ago, so this kind of an announcement is exactly what I've been waiting for ever since. And it seems conceived in bolder, braver terms than the corresponding LOTR line -- as is only proper, since SW lends itself to these types of dioramas a bit more readily.
This line and the PFs are now on top of my collecting priority.
