I actually wrote that a large number pre-order with the intent of not going through with it in the end. I never wrote "most". But that's just semantics. It costs nothing to dream and by pre-ordering without risk of penalty, it allows all of us to do just that. I'd be curious to see the number of cancellations received by the online dealers that do charge a percentage in penalty. I'm willing to bet that it's significantly lower. The same unknown variables apply, but when you know ahead of time that there IS a penalty, you tend to be more serious in your preorders.

I don't think it's a matter of being serious or not, I'd wager every preorder is serious but with the comfort of knowing they're not locked in or penalized, they have the freedom of taking a chance to get a sought after collectible. If Sideshow penalized cancellations, I wouldn't order more "seriously" I would just have to give a better examination of my financial status and look at what lies ahead to make sure that I felt it would be feasible to pay for the item when the time comes, and if I was concerned that there would be trouble, then I'd have to say no I can't order this. Sideshow's policy is fantastic and should stay as it is, it works with the unpredictability of life, and that's an important thing for these companies to respect and cater to, collector's are passionate people and sometimes our passion makes the choice for us, not reason, and when reason comes into play we have to say no but by not having fear of penalty, our passion can thrive and often be rewarded.

... so where does the "I want to post about the item and have something to say" logic fit ....

I've been involved with collectible forums for many years and have seen it over and over. Many posters are very young and simply don't have the finances to purchase everything coming down the pike, and yet I've seen them posting the usual, "I'll be buying a case..." or "I'll be posing him next to Sparky..." type of posts constantly. Many posters are older and real life takes a bite out of their wallets on a continuous basis but they, too, find the time to make similar posts. Later on it becomes apparent that very little was actually purchased.

Everyone would love to get everything but very, very few are able to. I would love to also see the percentage of pre-order to actual purchases averages for Sideshow. Should prove very interesting.

EDIT: Maulfan, you seem to be taking it personally, for some reason. I'm only generalizing and not pointing at you specifically.

I have to agree. All a fee does is make me think a little harder if I can order it for sure. SS I try to plan things out but life does get in the way. Yes, they're are plenty of young people who do what Fly is saying. However, it appears the age here tends to be a bit older so I don't think that's the case here.

SSC cancellation policy is a tricky thing. I do less preorder shopping at online stores these days because all of them carry a cancellation policy even though you can get the item at lower prices, unless I'm 100% sure I want it. I hold my place at SS for exclusives and there are some pieces I can't make up my mind, so I decide when it goes into processing. If I have the money, I let it go through and I buy it, if not, then I have to decide whether to buy it or not. Of course, most of the time, it goes through. A cancellation penalty at SSC would mean essentially that I will buy much less. I think of all the stuff I buy, 50% are definates, but I wind up buying 80% of what I preorder.

I didnt bother to read everything , but why are we talking about a cancelation policy. Is there speculation or is this just something people want to happen?

Frankly I dont want it to happen.

Have we found out if there is or isn't an exclusive for this yet?

Dusty said that there is an exclusive, and it rocks the house!!!

(Just kidding. She said no such thing. We actually have no idea--but I'm leaning towards no exclusive on this one.)

I feared for your life for a second there Tom!

I think its harder for a piece of this scale to look like its worth $280 since they tendency is often to inspect the figures themselves, which of course won't measure up to a Premium Format in 1/4 scale.

I think passing on this will feel a lot better once Anakin and Obi-Wan are announced as PF's. Remember, once pictures of the Hulk PF were shown nobody cared about the Hulk/Spidey Vs. anymore. :D Same with the Captain America PF compared to the Vs. piece.

What the heck?!?

I just looked over and saw that I passed the 8000 post mark. Wasn't even paying attention when I did it. Too late for a contest!!

I'll try to pay closer attention when I approach 9k.

I asked Dusty about the exclusive and she would neither confirm or deny, but she basically reminded us that Toy Fair is all about the retailers, and they don't get excited about Exclusives that they can't sell. So if there is an exclusive it will come in under the radar. (How many of those retailers want to see a picture of Elvis with his guitar that they are unable to sell to their customers?)

But I got the impression that there will be no exclusive. And if there is, she isn't allowed to drop any hints.

Obviously Gentle Giant didn't get the memo.

EDIT: When did I pass 2,000 posts? All this Toy Fair posting made me forget to keep track of it as well. :lol
