Sorry for the delay!! Busy weekend...

Saruman bumped LOTR into the lead in week 7 of our 15 part poll marathon. Let's see if this week takes us back to a tie or widens the gap:

While somewhat low on character development and screen time, this character doesn’t really need it--he exists primarily to provide a cool looking villain to lead the enemy troops through the climactic events of film three (atop his four-legged mount). Given a bizarre ailment to temper his imposing physical presence, this supporting villain makes an impression during his relatively brief time on screen, but ultimately meets his end when he goes from commanding the troops to personally engaging in combat (despite the inability to use all of his limbs).

PAST POLL RESULTS:
1. Han Solo (39) VS. Aragorn (80)
2. Obi-Wan Kenobi (41) VS. Gandalf (62)
3. C-3PO & R2-D2 (44) VS. Merry & Pippin (42)
4. Luke (56) VS. Frodo (40)
5. Darth Maul (62) VS. Lurtz (28)
6. Chewbacca (41) VS. Gimli (44)
7. Count Dooku (19) VS. Saruman (65)

Gothmog, easily. He has the bigger pair, and doesn't flee the scene as soon as he's challenged. Unlike Grievous, Gothmog earned his scars through battle.

General Greivous. Watch the Clone War cartoons to see what Greivous was in his prime before Windu injured him. Besides anyone who can fight with 4 lighstabers is impressive in my book.

Gothmog just limped around, bearly dodged a big rock, and wasn't even worthy of a theatrical release death.

This is a tough one for me. Unlike many here, Gothmog is my favorite LOTR villain, and Grievous is right up there with Fett, Jabba and Maul for me as far as SW villains go (CW or not).

Hmmmm.... Eeny meany miney...

Grievous.

I'm voting the collectible here, not the character.

Gothmog is a nice sculpt, but the intricacy of the Sideshow Grievous takes it.

Don't even have to think about this one. Grievous is one of my favorite, though worst developed (at least in the movie), SW characters.

If you haven't seen Clone Wars, do yourself a favor and WATCH IT!!!

I have the Gothmog in my collection and it is an awesome sculpt. The Warg looks almost life-like and with him mounted on it, is just the icing on the cake.

Grievous, though, is pretty kick-ass and is much more detailed, hence the higher cost. Unfortunately, this is one PF I could not afford to have in my collection, but hopefully one day, he will be.

So I'll give it to the General.

I had to vote Gothmog, since both of these villians are built up to be much more than they actually are. I actually love the Grievous designs, but I was expecting so much more than a moustache-twirling Snidley Whiplash style villian. It seemed as if G. Lucas went "Hey, kids loved that double-lightsaber of Darth Maul's, let's give this guy FOUR!!!", but then no-one had any idea how to stage a fight with that. Gothmog wasn't much cooler, but since there isn't a LOTR clone wars style cartoon to compare with, I am going with my vote based solely on the disappointing aftertaste left by the good general in ROTS

Even though I'm a lotr-fan, I vote GG

Vote is based off the Clone Wars, not ROTS. Gothmog is cool , but too passive to kick general Grievous' ass. Grievous was more involved in the fights himself..

Based on the movies, I had to go with Gothmog. As much as I like the character design of Grievous, he was just underused and badly portrayed.

Exactly. Plus, Gothmog's figure was waaay cooler. Two weeks in a row voting pro-LOTR.

Based on the film version of Gothmog, I have to say this:

This orc would have been picked on by everyone and survived out of sheer meanness and will. Anything less and a deformed gimp of an orc would have probably just been EATEN by other orcs (while they continued to laugh)!

Grievous. If you read anything besides what's in the movie then you'd agree. Labyrinth of Evil is a great book that shows how intelligent he really is. And of course, Clone Wars were great.

And besides, who can argue with the great pre-cyborg grievous concept:

I voted for Gothmog... how can you not love an Orc???

And Tom, your match ups are brilliant!!! I am amazed how similar each character is in the match up when you think about it... which I obviously never did before... :lol

Grievous rules Gothmog,

but Tom rules all.
