Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Too many chiefs & all that..

Yes, the first two films compliment each other, but the second one really wasn't necessary was it.

That said, of course I love T-2.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

As bad as TS is, it kinda broke that tread every so slightly. But still, had a good guy Terminator in it.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I didn't buy Sam as the broken soul in purgatory bit - or a Terminator of any kind, for a second.

He is so garbage in all the big US moofies, sorry. He does best in modest budget Aussie flicks.

Still reckon he would've made a great Max instead of Hardy - as part of a strictly Aussie project.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Amazing how deaf and blind the studio is, a single fan knows exactly what is needed to fix this, yet all those "professionals" keep making this garbage.

Imagine if for this movie they just ignored the whole dumb "evil John" thing and the main bad guy really was the Asian T-1000. They defeat the original T-800, they defeat the T-1000, but then Pops explains to them that while the war technically "ends" tonight with this being the final victory over the machines they still can't change the timeline too dramatically or they will actually undo events that *did* lead to their ultimate victory. So Pops instructs them to take the original T-800 carcass to the Cyberdyne factory so it can be found and then later destroyed by Sarah and her 10 year old son.

Reese and Sarah comply. Then Pops says, "there's still one more CPU, and it must be destroyed as well." Everyone's thinking oh no now he's going to sacrifice himself again. He casually reaches into his jacket, pulls out a Desert Eagle...and blows Reese away right in front of Sarah! Sarah, (who's already pregnant) freaks out and somehow gets away (maybe Pops' gun jams or some other fluke allows her a bit of a head start) and Sarah, alone, while grieving the loss of her lover (AGAIN) must fight not half of a T-800 in a hydraulic press but a walking fully functioning killer robot. Without Reese.

Bring the whole thing truly full circle. Because what Skynet determined was that they MUST be born in 1984, which means they can't go back to the 70's to kill her, or to the 1800's to kill her great great great grandmother or whatever, they have to make sure that events play out right UP to the T-800 being found at Cyberdyne, THEN Sarah/unborn John need to die. So they sent "Pops" as the ultimate infiltrator, a contingency to stack the deck in their favor against Reese when both he and the first Terminator arrive. Pops' mission was simply to make sure the first Terminator goes to Cyberdyne and...with the full trust (instead of terror) of both Reese and Sarah that would be when he'd stop speaking (permanently!) and simply systematically kill them both.

Reese's head gets blown off in horrifying fashion and Sarah is forced to have one final showdown with her ultimate enemy, but this time as a seasoned warrior herself.

I really like the idea that the events had to happen in 1984. It would finally explain why they wouldn't take Sarah out as a baby, or another way as you mentioned. Great ideas Khev!

Thanks karamazov. Wow, they even made a new one-sheet to go with the re-release. Nice.

I didn't notice that. That site even has a new teaser for these showings. My wife has already secured a nanny for the nights that Terminator and Jaws are playing. Unfortunately, she doesn't want to see Double Indemnity bad enough to get a sitter, but I might go see it on my own. Love that movie. We're debating taking my 5 year old to see Gremlins on that Sunday.

You know what else I didn't like about this clip - playing the 'dundun dun dundun' Terminator theme when Pops-800 stands up in the back of the van. Brad Fiedel used that at the start of the main title themes but he didn't use it during the narrative at any point that I recall in T1 or T2. (The music from the mini-gun scene in T2 is similar but not the same)

Instead this was the Terminator's music in T1:

while this was his music in T2:

But of course because those were less hummable and if you ask any joe bloggs what the Terminator music is they instantly go ''Dundun dun dundun'' that now has to become the default piece used, hitting us over the head with it - ''hey Terminator fans, it's the Terminator song, and its Arnie playing the Terminator, so we have the most recognisable bit of Terminator music, see?!!''

No restraint, no subtlety and they throw away all sense of threat and doom with it, something both those Brad Fiedel T1 and T2 pieces had (yeah even the T2 one)

Sounds much better than the family movie we're getting.

It's the blaring music that freaks Reese out, I would have panicked too. :lol "Huh, who's back there?" DUNDUN DUN DUNDUN! "Holy **** what the hell is going on!?" DUNDUN DUN DUNDUN! "So much bass, can't think!" "Reese no!"

But you're exactly right on that a-dev. Sarah had a similar moment when the elevator door opened in the mental hospital and Arnold stepped out. They could have pounded the opening title theme but instead made it a muted almost dreamlike moment for her.

Exactly. The makers of Genisys definitely would have put ''Dundun dun Dundun'' right in there, completely destroying the drama of that scene, going instead for an all too self-conscious ''Hey its TERMINATOR YOU GUYZZ!!!'' clatter about the head moment.
