that's cool. thanks for explaining.

ha! compared to what? other terminator movies?
we're talking about scifi action arnold flicks here. how much "substance" are you seeing in a semi tuck chasing arnold on a motorcycle?
and don't even get me started on "contrived". cameron got sued by the guy who originally came up with the idea like 30 years before t1 was filmed.

Okay we all get it, you HATE the hell outta Arnold along with T1 and T2. How many times do you have to troll the same message? Honesly now, my God.

i'm trying to get 100 posts in a row about it. thanks for asking. you should keep me updated.

i just saw this yesterday and i thought it was pretty good. i am not a die hard term fan or anything, but i enjoyed the point of view from marcus and how the t800 first came into existence. after seeing all of the movies i think this one was just as good as t2, t1 i do agree seemed more like a cerial killer kind of movie and didnt really appeal to me too much and t3 was a little too corny, but still liked it. the ending of t4 was very good, and i look forward to seeing another film being made. all i need now is some SS endos :monkey5

Well.. I'd have to rank them as follows:

T2: Judgment Day A+
The Terminator B+/A-
Terminator Salvation B+
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines C (loved the score and scene at the very end)

I feel that T1 and T4 are pretty close, dare I say almost tied lol?

So given the fact that Terminator came out in 1984 and Cameron was born in 1954, and this guy sued Cameron 30 years before Terminator was filmed, that would make him at the very least, an embryo. :huh What kind of selfish, ********* asshat sues a child still in the womb?!

He's saying that the same idea was first created in an episode of "The Outer Limits" (Auther Harlan Ellison) He sued Cameron and of course settled out of court. It wasn't 30 years before but rather 21 (1963)

The original "Skynet" idea was also originally created by Ellison in a short story called "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream"

typo. should say *20 years. and Cameron admitted to lifting Harlan Ellison's work and settled out of court.
watch t1 again. it says "Acknowledgment to the works of Harlan Ellison." before the credits.

Hey meathead, look up the word "sarcasm." It's three syllables, but if you sound it out, you should be fine. :p I wasn't discrediting the facts, merely your timeline. ;)

Saw the movie tonight. I liked it a lot. I thought the homages to T1 and T2 were pretty cool, particularly Marcus looking out at the future LA skyline and the battle between Connor and the Endo on the catwalk. It felt a little *too* dependent on future films and wish it could have had a more satisying finale (ANH, The Matrix, FOTR, and POTC:TCOTBP all did so even though they were the first of a trilogy) but I thought Connor and Marcus were great and it just "felt" like it could have been the future Reese was referencing in T1. A worthy effort.

I wonder what Cameron will think of the film...I mean he apparently "Really liked AVP...A Lot".

sheesh... maybe he saw a different movie than i did. there's no telling what him and Winston were up to in their spare time.
i'd rather hear what Ellison thinks of it... but i could probably guess.

let me give you a little perspective... indiana jones is an alan quatermain ripoff. starwars borrow wholesale from kurosawa films, the matrix is part ghost in the shell, part william gibson, part john woo, part true lies. did you see cameron or kurosawa or gibson or shirow sue? what does that say about ellison?

a legendary director by the name of stanley kubrick once said that everything that is in movies has been done before. once it's filtered through yourself, it's not quite the same thing.

are you sure that's his exact quote? but even if he said that, could he be just, i dont know... just being nice? possible?

i heard spielberg said some nice things about the phantom menace when it first came out. you think he meant what he said, or just being a good pal?

Yeah I'm sorry folks, I meant to say AVP, not AVPR. I'll edit my first post. You have to admit they're slick little acronyms though.

Here's what James had to say, in context.

JAMES CAMERON: Yeah. Ridley and I talked about doing another ALIEN film and I said to 20th Century Fox that I would develop a 5th ALIEN film. I started working on a story, I was working with another writer and Fox came back to me and said, "We've got this really good script for ALIEN VS PREDATOR and I got pretty upset. I said, "You do that you're going to kill the validity of the franchise in my mind." Because to me, that was FRANKENSTEIN MEETS WEREWOLF. It was Universal just taking their assets and starting to play them off against each other.

QUINT: Milking it, totally.

JAMES CAMERON: Milking it. So, I stopped work. Then I saw ALIEN VS PREDATOR and it was actually pretty good. (laughs) I think of the 5 ALIEN films, I'd rate it 3rd.

QUINT: Ummm...

JAMES CAMERON: I actually liked it. I actually liked it a lot.

Then they get into critiques of the film, but there it is. I actually liked AVP much more the first time around. I liked it because it was an above average Frankenstein meets the Wolfman, whereas AVPR was literal poop on a flaming stick.

Edit: and I didn't bring this up to question Cameron's integrity but because both TS and AVP seem to be highly disliked by fanboys of that holy grail of the "sequel that surpasses its already brilliant original" trope. Cameron directed both Aliens and T2 and he actually really liked AVP, so who knows but I'd expect for him to say something similar about TS.
