I did enjoy it.

This is an extremely solid "mythos" movie. I quite love how the lore was expanded in fact. The cast was totally solid minus the bad guy Terminator (Rev-9) lacking charisma.

I apparently was *very* in the dark about the plot of this film because I was really caught off guard by how Rev-9 and Grace fit into the story and the events surrounding their origins. My absolute favorite part of the film was
the new "Edge of Tomorrow" style future with the black tentacled Endoskeletons.
That was a complete surprise and now I want to see an entire future war movie about *that* lol.

The present day action sequences were "good enough" but surpassed none of the chases in T2 and lacked the atmosphere of the chases in T1. So that's where the "Force Awakens" aspect comes in. Because if the action can't match previous entries then it begs the question of why bother in the first place. Fortunately for this film though the answer of "why bother" is simply "because it's fun to see Arnold and Linda in their iconic roles again and watch how they interact." Because *unlike* the ST neither character is sidelined or ruined. Not even John himself since the impact of his death has major ramifications throughout the entire film and is even a major element of...well how things play out (I know most probably know all the spoilers but I'll still keep it vague for now.)

The sentimental aspects of Genisys (that I genuinely liked) were present in this film too but with pretty much no out of place humor anywhere. Not once does "Carl" try to smile or do anything goofy.

I was surprised how well the Dani character played into the story. She's no Ripley or T2 Sarah but she *did* do just as good a job, probably better even, than T1 Sarah. And I thought she had the right vibe to be believable as to who she would become.

Arnold was awesome, though again his action scenes were shadows of previous entries. That opening scene though. :thud:

But the mythos, that was a total homerun for me. I'll wait till some other folks see it before going off on how much I love the reason that they said that Judgment Day is inevitable in these movies and what the endgame of the machines *must* always be. And no it isn't simply being defeated by some single savior of humanity or that savior's parents in a past timeline, lol.

We're back in a bit of the loop that the end of T1 gave us and while they *could* keep showing us how the loop might play out I kind of hope that once again Parts II and III get cancelled. Because this movie doesn't even need a Part II or III.
It doesn't end on a cliffhanger or with an unsatisfying lack of resolution. It really is like T1. We know what will probably come, we got closure with the characters in this film, release this as a trilogy box set on blu-ray and call it a day.

:D

Seriously though, what I said in my meme.

So far the movie is bombing big time!

That is what you get when you do that kind of movie after many failures. Good...one day they need to learn this in a hard way. But it is their fault. They had 3 bad movies to learn before this.

Also this sums it up pretty much:

Yeah, I can see myself feeling exactly as he does. Even Grace feels the same.

I presume they went in unspoiled whereas I know the major spoilers. I'll probably be seeing it with my brother who seems to know nothing of what happens in the film so it'll be an interesting test to see how he reacts and ultimately feels about the movie compared to me. But Khev knew the major spoiler and look how he now feels about the film. He went in 'prepared'.

I don't see how it undermines T2. They won in T2. Dark Fate branches off the consequences of their actions in T2.

The "All things TERMINATOR" thread.

This was pure torture.

The only thing I liked, no make that loved, was the
future war Doc Ock tentacled Terminators they were freaking bad ass and the resistance troop transport had an excellent Aliens marines vibe to it!

Other than that yuck!

Why was Grace so freaking aggressive and hostile towards Sarah there was no reason for it it?s not like Grace was born after the apocalypse she was born and raised during civilization.

Why would Carl have an emotional connection to John Connor and Sarah it?s not like he was uncle Bob it made no sense.

Sarah Connor cursed way too much very out of character. She had very specific reasons for when she cursed in T1-T2 like when confronted with ignorance or as a stress release. Here it was every other word.

Legion, dumb name.

I didn?t buy for one second Dani being a John Connor type leader it was eye rolling bad.

Gabriel Luna had zero charisma although he did have one scene where he gave off a good Robert Patrick vibe. He actually made a better Michael Myers while in his jump suit standing in Carl?s dark house better than the guy from Halloween 18 lol

Unlike T1-T2 I will never watch this ever again.

Put down your LSD and do this experiment instead.

Go straight from minimalistic Joker to this movie lol

This movie was tedious to sit thru.

Terminator has 2 masterpieces nothing to be ashamed of it?s in good company with ANH-ESB, Godfather 1-2, Alien-Aliens, TWS-CW, IW-EG (sorry Raiders, Die Hard, Robocop, Road Warrior, Rambo, Rocky and Predator you don?t fit into that category).

Stop the insanity!

Ok ok fine you want to hear me say it i?ll go ahead and say it....

YES it?s better than that Predator movie from last year way better!

Are you happy lol

I suspected that you might not like it but I didn't think you'd hate it. You and I both had the same favorite scene though, that new future battleground was truly awesome.

I think there's enough in this movie for me to unpack that I'll do a YouTube review when I get home.

I don't see how it undermines T2. They won in T2. Dark Fate branches off the consequences of their actions in T2.

In the sense that

it was all for nothing. Not only do they not stop Judgment Day and the machines taking over but John Connor gets killed very soon after T2. Even T3 at least allowed them the victory of John remaining alive.

Perhaps just too much of a gutpunch from which to spring their 'new' story. It certainly is for many people.

I was taken by surprise when they showed that and I do want more of that.

However I did not like the Endos coming out of the ocean why were they under the water anyways lol seemed rather silly

No joke Sarah Connor constantly cursing kept taking me out of the movie lol

But we all knew it was going to "undermine" T2 the moment this movie was announced. All of the sequels do for that matter and they all mess up the "happy" ending.

Ha, I'm uploading my video review where I answer that very question. :D

Cool.

True but, again, only in the sense that 'oh hey, there's still machines coming back from the future, I guess destroying Cyberdyne didn't work as we hoped'

So not in such a visceral and grim way as making us watch an Uncle Bob-esque model 101 walking in and blowing away John Connor as his mother desperately and uselessly tries to fight him off. If you watch this film after T2 it's gonna be quite the brutal come-down. The emotional pay-off of T2, the father/son relationship between Uncle Bob and John and the respect Sarah Connor had developed for Uncle Bob too. Just wiped out by ''Terminator 3''.

Maybe that's exactly what they wanted (surprising from Cameron though). Some will see it as brave move, but many will just think it's stupid.

I get where you're coming from. Though most people seem to like it as its getting pretty good reviews from audiences and critics alike.

To me, it doesn't undermine T2 because:

They did stop Judgement Day. They succeeded at that. Skynet never existed. IIRC, John Connor dies in 1998 in this film. That's a year after Judgement Day was to occur. Sarah and John became complacent, hence the success of the T800.

The thing is, Skynet/Legion or whatever AI that was inevitable to rise and destroy humanity was always going to happen in this universe because it was human nature to create it in the first place. IMO, by shifting this away from Skynet, the story did not undermine the success they had in T2.

This was pure torture.

Oof sorry you didn't like it. I was hoping you would.... :rotfl

Why was Grace so freaking aggressive and hostile towards Sarah there was no reason for it it?s not like Grace was born after the apocalypse she was born and raised during civilization.
I think it was because
She simply did not know who Sarah was. She wasn't of that time, she lived for years in a world where people fight against other people just to survive. She probably has some serious trust issues.

Why would Carl have an emotional connection to John Connor and Sarah it?s not like he was uncle Bob it made no sense.

He did not have an "emotional connection" in the same way humans do. Him having a family allowed him to understand according to his words, what he "took away" from Sarah. His interaction with people allowed him to learn, become self-aware and realize that he had done something terrible.

I think I actually liked this aspect. It's similar to how some Terminators in T:SCC lived long lives as regular people.

Sarah Connor cursed way too much very out of character. She had very specific reasons for when she cursed in T1-T2 like when confronted with ignorance or as a stress release. Here it was every other word.

Yeah I agree she cursed a lot. Didn't like that either. I just rationalized it that maybe her constant anger, sadness and traumas made her curse more.

I didn?t buy for one second Dani being a John Connor type leader it was eye rolling bad.

Yeah on the fence on this one too. On the other hand:
T2 or T3 John Connor was worse IMO

So maybe not that bad of a tough sell.

Go straight from minimalistic Joker to this movie lol

I'd probably watch this again rather than Joker though. Time went by faster in this film :rotfl

Re: The "All things TERMINATOR" thread.

Double Toasted were probably the most positive one I saw and they pretty much thought it was a waste of time, I think they used those words. Can't wait for the Red Letter Media one.

Hmmm. I don't think Sarah Connor would see it this way. :lol

In any case I don't think there's any point in me commenting on this further till I see it myself. Who knows, some people who I expected would not like it have liked it so...

Okay here you go a-dev and anyone else who'd like to hear (literally) some of my thoughts on the film and what it means for the overall mythos. Took long enough to upload, lol.

Was Eddie Furlong de-aged digitally?

Did he look like a creepy wax puppet or was it convincing? Was Furlong actually brought in to film or did they just use a kid?

Or was it 40 year old fat strung out Eddie Furlong?

Also, just read that the actress that plays the girl is 32 years old. Jeez. Did she get her start playing decoys on "To Catch a Predator?"

The "All things TERMINATOR" thread.

The whole
female replacement of John Connor and not her male born son was telegraphed a mile away but they tried to make it a big reveal in the movie.

I took it as Dani and Grace were lovers does that mean that Sarah and Dani are also going to be pals as well I mean I don?t blame Sarah if she does because Dani was hot lol

So Sarah now adopted a resistance leader girl to replace her loss of resistance leader John, umm ok that?s quite convenient no lol.

The whole reason given for the importance of Dani was really really bad like anyone else could do the exact same thing she did there was nothing special about her.

So she saved Grace, a female, from being raped and killed by lawless white men....sigh.

Honestly i?m surprised Khev is not specifically upset over that I mean what the hell Khev what gives lol

Christ we have to wait for a-dev to catch this it will be months before this movie can officially be crowned a true successor to T2 or not.

But if Las Vegas were to drop a line on it today I know which way I would bet just based off that over the top cargo plane battle alone lol

Oh well I still PO NECA Carl that thing looks cool just as a basic Arnold figure.

I enjoyed it too. I feel Khev just about summed up how I feel about this one as well. Though Dani bugged me a little bit, I just couldn't get behind the fact she was the "savior" of humanity.

She is now the least impressive "John Connor" since the unimpressive John from T3. Hollywood needs to stop insulting the audience with 4 foot tall women being able to hold their own in fights with adult males.
