I did enjoy it.
This is an extremely solid "mythos" movie. I quite love how the lore was expanded in fact. The cast was totally solid minus the bad guy Terminator (Rev-9) lacking charisma.
I apparently was *very* in the dark about the plot of this film because I was really caught off guard by how Rev-9 and Grace fit into the story and the events surrounding their origins. My absolute favorite part of the film wasThat was a complete surprise and now I want to see an entire future war movie about *that* lol.the new "Edge of Tomorrow" style future with the black tentacled Endoskeletons.
The present day action sequences were "good enough" but surpassed none of the chases in T2 and lacked the atmosphere of the chases in T1. So that's where the "Force Awakens" aspect comes in. Because if the action can't match previous entries then it begs the question of why bother in the first place. Fortunately for this film though the answer of "why bother" is simply "because it's fun to see Arnold and Linda in their iconic roles again and watch how they interact." Because *unlike* the ST neither character is sidelined or ruined. Not even John himself since the impact of his death has major ramifications throughout the entire film and is even a major element of...well how things play out (I know most probably know all the spoilers but I'll still keep it vague for now.)
The sentimental aspects of Genisys (that I genuinely liked) were present in this film too but with pretty much no out of place humor anywhere. Not once does "Carl" try to smile or do anything goofy.
I was surprised how well the Dani character played into the story. She's no Ripley or T2 Sarah but she *did* do just as good a job, probably better even, than T1 Sarah. And I thought she had the right vibe to be believable as to who she would become.
Arnold was awesome, though again his action scenes were shadows of previous entries. That opening scene though.
But the mythos, that was a total homerun for me. I'll wait till some other folks see it before going off on how much I love the reason that they said that Judgment Day is inevitable in these movies and what the endgame of the machines *must* always be. And no it isn't simply being defeated by some single savior of humanity or that savior's parents in a past timeline, lol.
We're back in a bit of the loop that the end of T1 gave us and while they *could* keep showing us how the loop might play out I kind of hope that once again Parts II and III get cancelled. Because this movie doesn't even need a Part II or III.
It doesn't end on a cliffhanger or with an unsatisfying lack of resolution. It really is like T1. We know what will probably come, we got closure with the characters in this film, release this as a trilogy box set on blu-ray and call it a day.
Seriously though, what I said in my meme.
So far the movie is bombing big time!
That is what you get when you do that kind of movie after many failures. Good...one day they need to learn this in a hard way. But it is their fault. They had 3 bad movies to learn before this.
Also this sums it up pretty much:
Yeah, I can see myself feeling exactly as he does. Even Grace feels the same.
I presume they went in unspoiled whereas I know the major spoilers. I'll probably be seeing it with my brother who seems to know nothing of what happens in the film so it'll be an interesting test to see how he reacts and ultimately feels about the movie compared to me. But Khev knew the major spoiler and look how he now feels about the film. He went in 'prepared'.
