The "All things TERMINATOR" thread.

China, Syria and Ireland have refused to screen it unfortunately.

Dude the theatrical opening in Somalia was the bomb they even shot down real helicopters for it!

I think I see DF as kind of the Terminator "SMFFH" entry where the series clearly peaked with the previous film (that being T2 canonically) and then this is the "take it or leave it" epilogue that shows some of the aftermath of the previous conflict. Though tragic for young John I find DF to be a more satisfying and appropriate epilogue than the discarded T2 scene with old Sarah and adult John at the park.

And young John still got to reconcile with his mother and enjoy three assumedly wonderful years together before his death with their gift to the world being what 25-40 years of peace before Legion made everything go dark?

More should?ve been shown about Legion.

I know this might sound crazy now but at first I thought the big reveal was going to be that somehow Dani?s or Sarah?s actions were going to be responsible for Legion lol

Re: The "All things TERMINATOR" thread.

Isn't that the exact same issue as

John Connor? Why him? He could bring people together to fight a common enemy. Seriously was he the only one who possessed such a skill there was no other military commander who also knew how to bring people together. That's fine if he brought some people together but leader of the entire resistance umm ok whatever lol

I was going to make the case that Furlong's John was just 10 and so could be granted leeway on what it was plausible for him to grow up to be whereas Dani is older - the actress is 32 - but I'm not sure what age she's playing in the movie. My argument was going to be the older she is in Dark Fate the harder it may be to see how she would become the leader of the human resistance if she doesn't already have certain essential traits by then.

But in any case, then you posted this -

So the thing why I don't think this is any less believable is because there are some parallels to something real that happened in my country:

where the entire nation rallied behind the widow of an assassinated senator, against a dictator who has been in power for over 20 years. This widow was an unassuming, soft-spoken housewife. She got the Catholic church behind her, went against the military, against the police and against multiple career politicians. Eventually, the generals of both military and police, along with key politicians sided with her, and the dictator got ousted.

She eventually became president after snap elections were held. Her presidency was marked by the abolishment of the previous constitution creating a new one with better safeguards against dictatorships. It survived several coup attempts by members of her own military, loyalists to the former dictator and communist rebels to overthrow her presidency.

So do I think someone like Dani can unite people against a common threat? Yeah I think it's plausible.

She might not be very good at tactics/strategy (the president I mentioned wasn't the best president either IMO), but she can get the support of people that do. Remember, she was trained by Sarah Connor, so at the very least, she knew how to fight. Even before she got targeted, it was well established by the film that she was assertive, very responsible and laser focused on things that she wanted to achieve.

And OK. Maybe you're right.

That it did. *BLAM* :lol

And I had forgotten that when a T-800 drops you he continues firing when you're down. Freaking brutal. :thud:

Yeah all the Arnie/Linda scenes were well done IMO. I didn't mind her swearing since she was in "Logan" mode and had already developed a bit of a potty mouth in T2. ;)

It's not like when the T-1000 told her to call to John she said "I respectfully decline your offer good sir" lol.

:lol

I agree. And even in Logan it initially took me out of the movie since it felt like they were trying to squeeze in three F-bombs into every sentence and Logan had never talked like that in any previous film. But it didn't bother me for Sarah since she started moving in that direction as soon as she pressed the button of the hydraulic press, lol.

But now you must give a listen and tell me what you think:

*loud extended exhale*

OK, I'll approach with as much an open mind as I can and try to expel the pre-set requirements I have had. I still suspect, at best, I might call this an alternate canon while still wishing they had simply gone ahead and made the exact future war that Kyle Reese was from, the 2029 lead-up to T1 and T2.

Hopefully I can view it like you view Alien 3 where it's ''hey that was a decent movie, I don't want to discount it outright, but I'm not in the mood to call it the true follow-up to Aliens right now, I'm sticking with the 'happy' ending'' - I don't think that's a direct quote of yours but it's the gist I have gotten from your past comments.

Just....that opening is a major body blow - especially if you're emotionally engaged in T2 - then you go into Dark Fate, the intended sequel, and they do that. It's ****ing cruel :lol Arguably moreso than the aforementioned Alien 3 because of Sarah seeing it happen before her eyes and being helpless to do anything about it. What a nightmare for any parent (and I aint even one).

I feel like the rest of the film is going to have to be really damn good to make me get over the first 5 minutes.

I think that was just Grace somewhat echoing Sarah wanting to blow Carl away when she first saw him. Sure Sarah explain how she helped saved billions of lives but if Grace's reality was that she had to watch her parents starve and then get raped over and over in abandoned buildings because of Sarah's accomplishments then I can see her having difficulty stepping back and looking at the big picture more fairly.

Grace seemed pretty aggressive with most people so I also wondered if it was a side effect of her augmentation.

The latter I would want to say because I wouldn't consider Sarah responsible for creating the reality Grace has had to live - if it wasn't the Legion reality it was going to be the Skynet reality which would have been no better. But maybe Grace is irrational and would blame her anyway.

Regarding Carl's "affinity" for John and Sarah well

as he stated in the film he still can't feel true love the way that a human can but taking on the role of a loving provider does give him purpose. So in a world with no war or Skynet Command he assigned himself the mission of providing for a woman and child and also providing a mission for Sarah since she herself was another lost soldier with no purpose. We know from the initial T2 prologue that T-800's sometimes work together and his programming might have seen her as the closest thing to a fellow soldier that he could relate to.

So he states that he doesn't feel emotion?

:lol Is that the old man from Robocop? I read it in his voice

I am super confident that deep inside a-dev is going to hate this movie with a passion but I think just out of loyalty and respect for your opinion I think he?s going to give you an official approval nod....

I respect genuine reactions (good or bad) to a film rather than reactions that seem informed by peer pressure, political tendency, the expectations of youtube subscribers etc. So you have Grace Randolph who would tend towards the SJW side of things who didn't like it at all despite it being the 'woke' Terminator film. And on here we've had Johnny Utah, Snoop101 and now Khev liking it - these guys aren't SJWs - but they're not gonna hate it merely for the sake of maintaining an anti-woke persona. If they like it, they like it.

You didn't like it and I know you're not biased one way or another really so that's cool.

We'll see where I stand. If I end up hating it I've already given the likely reason why.

I know that a-dev respects both our opinions but he won't give an approval nod just to be nice. :)

Remember I defended TLJ for a good six months and can even accept TPM as canon both of which had me going down paths that a-dev just could not follow, lol.

True. TPM is the best of the PT to me but I still cannot call it canon even in isolation because Jake Lloyd is supposed to be Anakin Skywalker. I never wanted to see Darth Vader as an 8 year old full-stop. The film only vindicated how that was a mistake IMO.

Has a-dev NOT seen this movie yet? I thought for sure he'd be third in line.

Bad time for me, had started doing some painting that I've procrastinated on for far too long.

China, Syria and Ireland have refused to screen it unfortunately.

He better put on his best brogue and heed over to Scotlund.

That actually very much sounds like your Aliens/Alien 3 scenario where it'll just depend on your mood.

Like SW, my guess is that this is now a franchise that needs a rest.

When Harriet Tubman is approaching half of Sarah Connor, you know you are in trouble.:lol
