Where is this shown in the Raimi films Nam? The web comes out of his body (and boy what a poo storm that caused at the time, despite being one of the carry overs from James Cameron's screen treatment) and he was already a photog?

Didn't I run you off earlier by replying to this? :lol

The whole reason he gets bit in the first Spider-Man and why Norman likes Peter more than Harry is because he's a genius shooting for a science major. Add to that the ONLY reason he has any dialogue with Octavious in the sequel is also because of this. Did you actually watch the Raimi films? :lol

Which they never fully explored. But he was smart and so was this Spider-man but who cares.

No, not me. You're not capable of running an egg-and-spoon race, let alone 'running me off' from this forum.:rotfl The only thing you can run is your mouth...but I suppose that's your favourite thing about yourself, right? :rotfl

Oh I concede that we are told many times that he is a genius...but we never actually get any evidence of it by seeing him being such. At the very least, in ASM we get to see him tinker together a web shooter device out of some electronics and watch components...I agree it's not much but still.

"I'm something of a scientist myself."

As soon as the audience is introduced to Peter Parker we learn that he's a brilliant nerd. He knows all that stuff about the electron telescope, the spiders, he's written a paper on Norman Osborn, etc. etc. He knows all about that nuclear physics/fusion reactor crap in Spider-Man 2. He's the only one that questions the fusion reactor and his original worry ends up coming true and the demonstration fails.

It's made clear that he's brilliant in Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2.

"Brilliant but lazy".

He's probably smarter than the Garfield Parker, and more charismatic and noble. Does he invent any fantastical technology or equipment? No. But he's clearly a genius.

Tobey Maguire is the better Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Doesn't make one any less of a genius than the other. It doesn't matter if the intelligence is said, shown or implied.

^ by that reasoning the sequel could skip the final fight and just have him say 'man what a fight i just won against Galactus, Mysterio and the Skrulls, i kicked ass, what a scene' then close credits.

Seeing something trumps being told about it :lecture

The audience is told that Tobey is a genius, but never shown. Garfield is shown to be a genius.

Doesn't get any more simple than that :dunno

To those of us who were already familiar with the character, needing to be shown was unnecessary, and given the box office, the general majority accepted it. I'm sorry that like DTGW, you have to be shown every little step to understand a concept as simple as that. :huh

Being told about something that isn't as exciting as other things being shown trumps wasting time showing something that can be communicated just as easliy with dialogue.

Ang Lee's Hulk movie spent 147 minutes showing Banner be a scientist when all we really wanted was to watch him hulking out and trashing things. No need for Spidey to go that route.

You might wanna break that down into single-syllable words. You're gonna have him licking walls trying to figure out what you posted. :lol

Obviously The Avengers showed how a character can be engaging as both a genius and a superhero (Stark and Banner) but with Spidey I just don't think its as necessary. Its not like he's constantly upgrading his webshooters and spandex to the point that they need to continually remind us how smart he is in every scene.
