Being told about something that isn't as exciting as other things being shown trumps wasting time showing something that can be communicated just as easliy with dialogue.

Ang Lee's Hulk movie spent 147 minutes showing Banner be a scientist when all we really wanted was to watch him hulking out and trashing things. No need for Spidey to go that route.

Scenes showing him as intelligent didn't get in the way of Spider-Man though, the Hulk scenario is about proportion, not enough Hulk to Banner ratio.

"I'm something of a scientist myself."

As soon as the audience is introduced to Peter Parker we learn that he's a brilliant nerd. He knows all that stuff about the electron telescope, the spiders, he's written a paper on Norman Osborn, etc. etc. He knows all about that nuclear physics/fusion reactor crap in Spider-Man 2. He's the only one that questions the fusion reactor and his original worry ends up coming true and the demonstration fails.

It's made clear that he's brilliant in Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2.

"Brilliant but lazy".

He's probably smarter than the Garfield Parker, and more charismatic and noble. Does he invent any fantastical technology or equipment? No. But he's clearly a genius.

Tobey Maguire is the better Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

So judging by one movie tobey is the better spidey ? Lol alright the constant crying is so spidey like but jeez another argument I'm not surprised lmao.

^ by that reasoning the sequel could skip the final fight and just have him say 'man what a fight i just won against Galactus, Mysterio and the Skrulls, i kicked ass, what a scene' then close credits.

Seeing something trumps being told about it :lecture

I was captivated by the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, the rise of the Empire, the death of the Jedi, and the Clone Wars when Old Ben tells Luke Skywalker about it all in "A New Hope." To this day, Sir Alec Guiness' performence in the whole series is magical. But when George Lucas decided to show us that same stuff? He nearly killed my love of Star Wars! And being shown the origin of Spidey again instead of just being told how it happened made me dislike this new movie and think it a waste of time. So he stole and modified some webslingers? Big whoop. That makes this a better movie? :lol

Yea I agree k07 they could of pulled a hulk and just tell the origin through the credits. Lets hope the sequel sheds some light on the untold story Becuase there was no untold story in this movie. I must agree that this movie doesn't hold the same weight as the first Spider-Man which IMO was magical to see on screen then again I was twelve when it came out.

To slightly revise my last question:

To those of you who did not like the movie or thought it was a pointless remake; do you think the action sequences alone warrant a blind buy?

I'm buying it. :huh Plus the sequel could go either way. ATM it looks to rehash aspects of the Goblin and introduce MJ, but Jamie Foxx is playing Elektro so it could go either way and it's always best to have seen it first. If funds are tight, I'd say rent it first.

My biased ass says no. I thought everything was boring. Outside of the Stan Lee cameo, the training montage...and...uh...yeah, that's it.

Nuff said.

Yeah I agree with the above post.

And no, the fight scenes do not warrant a buy. Also, they seem pretty weak compared to the Raimi films.

So Jamie Foxx is electro? The sequel is gonna fall short too. I really think nowadays people just need to see a character on screen to believe it was a good movie and worth their time. We're gonna have the same argument when that movie comes out. He's just gonna be a bad guy with a motive who loses in a lame fight scene. Not excited for another movie. Looks like it's time to buy some Spider-man 3 figures.

I gotta agree the fight scenes in this movie were pretty ****ing weak. Spidey got his ass kicked by the lizard in the final battle with Captain stacey having to save him.

Judge this as you will Khev but...It was a blind buy for me, even before I saw it at the cinema. Like I said, I am a major Spideyphile and have been my whole life. Sadly, whilst the Blu is sitting on my shelf...I do not have access to my 3D Viera - I am house sitting for my mother and sister - so will wait until the weekend before I watch it again.

Why wouldn't you rent it first for $1 from Redbox and decide for yourself. I'd hate to be out $20 on a movie I didn't like. I will not be getting this movie and I've seen the action scenes. Nothing amazing about them. The train scene is still the best Spidey action sequence from all four films.

Oh good when I asked "does it have good action scenes" I was hoping somebody would describe how the final fight ended. :monkey1

Fight scenes were great, he moved more like Spidey from the comics than has been seen in live action before

Spidey moved in the comics? All my comics must be broken. I just see some still panels :slap :lol

Actually, I agree his agility and movements whilst webslinging and fighting are better and evoke the iconic poses of the comic panels than Raimi's did, but none of the action scenes despite these subtle nuances in his movement are "great." They're on par with what we got in the first and third Spidey movies I guess. I don't like Raimi's films for the CGI or fight choreography. I like them for the characters and story. Any cool fights are just icing in the cake.

I felt raimi Spider-Man is more powerful than this one but then again this Spider-Man is younger.
