Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

Shocker, Hulk fights Thor :lol

From SHH:

Though he admits that there have been only very brief discussions between him and fellow Avengers cast mates since they all took the stage at last year's Comic-Con, Thor leading man Chris Hemsworth offered a few additional updates on the ensemble flim to MTV News.

"I saw a very early draft and, yeah, it's incredible," Hemsworth said of the screenplay, "...Look, everything about the story in the comic books is huge. You have these huge, big superheroes and these huge, big egos kind of crammed into one small space. Reading the script, it was massive. I said to Joss [Whedon], 'I don't know how you're going to shoot this thing, but I'm excited to be onboard and let's give it a go.'"

He added that there will be, on screen, a lot of friction between Thor and his fellow Avengers, hinting that Thor and the Hulk, especially, will come to blows onscreen.

When asked about the rumored cameo of Jeremy Renner in Thor, Hemsworth played it coy, neither confirming nor denying the actor or the character's appearance. If Hawkeye, does appear, though, it won't be in a scene with Hemsworth.

"He wasn't on set when I was there," Hemsworth did confirm.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

Don't know of this thread is still being looked at, but I re-entered the thread. I don't doubt that there is Alien life out there somewhere, but for some reason don't want to see it in this avengers movie. Just don't think they will be able to do it justice. I'm not bothered if they do go down that route but would be reserved about they film being that good. Any ways will go and see it.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

I think its a great idea to have the Skrull invade... THATS EXACTLY the kind of thing that would UNEQUIVACALLY bring together the avengers. Its the only adversary strong enough to ACTUALLY pose a threat.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

Several days ago, Samuel L. Jackson hinted that S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury would be bringing on a female sidekick in Joss Whedon's Avengers flick. Deadline is reporting that How I Met Your Mother actress Cobie Smulders will likely portray agent Maria Hill, who was the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the 2006 Marvel mega-event Civil War.

In Civil War, Iron Man and Hill hunted down Captain America and other superheroes who refused to sign with The Superhuman Registration Act (she's made her amends with Cap since then). Does her presence in the film indicate that the film's mining Civil War for inspiration? I somewhat doubt it — the first film will likely have a "team comes together" vibe — but her inclusion does set up plot possibilities for future installments of the franchise.

Doesn't really look like Maria Hill but its a supporting character so who cares.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

She's a very attractive woman, but seeing her in HIMYM does not make me think of her as Hill. It also seems pretty silly to think that they'd do anything Civil War related in the movies. It'd make a great animated flick though.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

Is that a real person or a painting? ;)

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

I guess it's official Scherbotski's gonna be Maria Hill. I, too, don't see it, but I love her anyway that I'm not upset about it

Well not official just yet...

Mystery 'Avengers' Role Revealed, 'How I Met Your Mother' Actress The Leading Contender?
Posted 2/7/11 11:16 am ET by Adam Rosenberg in Marvel, News

Samuel L. Jackson, who will be repeating his Nick Fury role for 2012's "The Avengers," revealed in an interview last week that he'd be reading alongside five actresses for a "sidekick" role, which many believed to be S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill. Now, a new report indicates that the part is indeed Hill, and that "How I Met Your Mother" star Cobie Smulders is the front-runner.

According to Deadline, Smulders reportedly read with fellow candidates Morena Baccarin ("V"), Jessica Lucas ("Cloverfield") and Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World"), and the outlet has her pegged as director Joss Whedon's top pick.

Whedon previously considered Smulders for the role of "Wonder Woman" when he was working on the DC Comics property as a film adaptation.

Hill is a significant player in the Marvel Comics universe, particularly during the popular "Civil War" arc. Nick Fury is removed from his position as S.H.I.E.L.D. director early on in the story, with Hill stepping in to run the agency in the interim. Tony Stark eventually takes over, though Hill continues to play a critical role in the events that follow.

There's been no word on the direction that Whedon's "Avengers" will be taking in terms of the story, but wrapping in elements of the "Civil War" arc certainly isn't out of the question. "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth recently told MTV that Whedon's script is "incredible," and that it features "plenty of friction" between the heroes, which could certainly indicate a nod to the "Civil War" arc. Even if that's not the case, Smulders will likely be securing herself a future in the many Marvel movies to come if the casting comes to pass.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

She's great to look at and I can roll with her as hill.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

Morena Baccarin would get my vote for Hill. She already has the haircut and stands around all day in a ship hovering over the city in V so it shouldn't be much different for her :lol

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

From some movie website :lol

We prayed hard to the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ to deliver unto us a Shane Black-directed Iron Man 3, and now it is come to pass. Deadline reports that Marvel Studios is making a deal with Black to direct the film.

What about writing it? Black is a writer, first and foremost, but apparently nothing has been decided on that front. I can’t imagine him not doing lots and lots and lots of work on the script, so they may as well hire him as the writer anyway. It just makes sense. And it would be interesting to see what an Iron Man movie with a script looked like.

The big question I have is how will The Avengers impact Iron Man 3? I keep hearing that the film lays the groundwork for the next round of crossover stuff, in the way that all the films to date have been leading up to The Avengers. Will Iron Man 3 be a sequel to that movie as much as it’s a sequel to Iron Man 2? And will it have MODOK? Please say yes.

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

Modok!?
Gawd no.
(Wheres my go to face palm pict? Its around here some where)

Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

Do we know if another Incredible Hulk movie will be made before the Avengers movie? Or will Mark Ruffalo reprise the role of Banner only for the Avengers?

Marvel Has Shot A Secret ‘Avengers’ Trailer Featuring Which Villain?
Posted on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 by Germain Lussier

Two very cool, symbiotic pieces of news regarding Joss Whedon‘s 2012 film The Avengers have just been revealed. According to Ain’t It Cool News, Marvel has shot some kind of secret teaser trailer for the film that will either either be attached to Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger or both. That’s not particularly surprising since Marvel likes to tack connective bits onto their movies. The big deal is the content. The teaser apparently reveals exactly who the main villain in the film will be. Want to who it is right now? Latino Review has that info but we won’t spoil it here. Find out after the jump.

Click the Spoiler but ye be warned.

According to Latino Review, Thor’s brother Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston in the Kenneth Branagh film, will return in The Avengers and appear as a threat in the aforementioned trailer reported on over at Ain’t It Cool News.

How does Loki fit in exactly? Well, we’d hear rumors that the Skrulls (and Loki too) would somehow fit into The Avengers and that’s apparently true. Loki, from Thor, will somehow get his hands on the Cosmic Cube, from Captain America: The First Avenger, in order to summon the Skrulls, an evil, alien race who look like reptiles but have similar several human characteristics. (You can read more about them here.)

If this is all true, and based on the reputation of the sources at both Latino Review and Ain’t It Cool News plus our earlier rumor, it probably is, then Joss Whedon is going to be giving us more than superheros in Glengarry Glen Ross, he’s going to be directing superheroes battling evil green skinned aliens, a Norse God and an infinitely powerful cube in a full on battle to save the planet.

Mind = blown.

As promised, it’s all starting to link up. Personally, I’m excited to see how these Marvel movies begin to go away from the realistic toward the more fantastic. I love comic book movies where everything on the screen has to be real, but I’m dying to see something that’s totally out-of-this-world. Do you agree?
