Just watched it loved it epic movie, my only problem was that they didnt explain how banner was able to somewhat control his rage and direct it, unless i missed something!
So after a night to sleep on seeing this I thought I'd comment on how amazing I thought it was, instead I'm just gonna go see it again in a few hours.....yeah it's that good!
saw it last night in 3d and i thought it was really great. i thought the scene where hulk grabs loki lika a rag doll and the one where he punches thor were hillarious. hopefully i'll go watch it again this week.
My GF and i were totally blown away by this movie, really enjoyed it...I'm sure it has been said already but the comedy was done perfectly, nothing cringe inducing...can't wait to go and see this again.
Finally got in a showing yesterday (Friday was sold-out by he time I got of work)...
Whedon was a good choice for this. He did a great job with the balancing of so many strong characters, each getting their moments. Two, in particular, stood out in an interesting way...
Hawkeye...at first, I wasn't sure about him basically being the villain's pawn for most of the movie, but that ended up being a great device in showcasing his skills. And Fury...I liked how he wasn't at the standard Jackson-full-tilt outrage for the whole thing...instead, Jackson gives him a touch of weariness and sadness among the bluster. Made that character even more intriguing to me...
And as most everyone has commented, Ruffalo is perfect as Banner/Hulk...and it was cool that Hulk didn't get overused or turn gimmicky in this. When the big green guy shows up, it's great action and adds to the team.
Now I do have just a couple things that kind of held the movie back for me just a bit...they don't "kill" it, but...takes me out of it for a moment while watching...
I'm over the "Transformers" inspired destruction-mayhem where we see entire building decimated, city blocks torn asunder and...no blood or bodies thrown about. The destruction is so massive that the lack of any carnage at all is just distracting after a while.
Yes, I know...it's just a movie and the powers-that-be want the most bang for their buck and that's why that's the way it is...it's just distracting, that's all. As I said, it doesn't kill the movie, just blunts the impact and lessens the stakes a bit...
....and...was this not the most "faceless" and boring army of whatever the heck that was we've ever seen? Other than creating general destruction and chaos, there seemed to be no point to them. There appearance was kind of cliche'-lizards-on-flying things-(and wasn't it handy our heroine could easily just start flying the thing too) accompanied by by Anime-flying creature number fives? (I half expected Mothra to come soaring through that hole at one point)...
Maybe that was the point...these creatures/armies needed no explanation...they were just there to cause destruction...and then just conveniently shut down at the end of the fight like the battle droids in Episode One... but like my previous point of the lack of carnage, once you have something that kicks off the questions while you're watching, it can take you out of the movie...
...and I liked HD Stanton's quick contribution...great moment/line made this old fan smile...
But neither of these issues kill the movie...far from it. It's a great fast-paced ride and a lot of fun....and one I'll catch a few more times before it leaves the theaters...
Marvel, Whedon and the entire production is to be commended- they pulled it off magnificently after years of build-up, they gave us a great "group picture" that begs the question...when's the next one?
People on another forum are bashing the audiences they saw the movie with.
Saying they don't understand why people laugh and clap during the film.
A lot of them saying this doesn't happen in other countries, only in the U.S. I love it when the crowd is into it.
Otherwise wait for the Blu-ray to come out and watch it at home to avoid the noise.
1> We never saw a funeral, and it was already established that Fury would deceive and manipulate the team to achieve his objectives.
(Stark: "He's the original spy.")
2> Coulson acknowledges that a transformative event needed to occur to get the team to bond.
3> Stark made a passing reference to an LMD (Life Model Decoy) earlier with Pepper . . . maybe that's what Loki impaled?
On Coulson dying...I really didn't think about before but they did leave that open. Although I don't think the LMD explanation would work.
But at the same time, Coulson was the one who mentioned the push first and it would be kind of arrogant for Coulson to assume they loved him that much (even though they obviously did).
I would accept if they brought him back. But it would cheapen that aspect of this movie so I hope they don't. But it now seems to me that they left it open to happen.
But I have to say he was one of my favorite characters throughout the story so far. Some of the little detours from his "matter-of-fact" attitude like swooning over Captain America and "Oh boy, Here we go". When the Destroyer was about to start blasting his team in "Thor" made the fill-in spots of the movies almost as good as the main storyline.
I'm wondering why BW seemed so "checked out" after her run in with the Hulk. She doesn't do anything after Thor enters the fight, the Shield Helicarrier was going down and she just sits there like she's terrified only snapping out of it to go after HE. Out of everyone in the movie she seemed to have the most fear of Hulk, anyone else notice that?
It's a rumor that spilled around the time of the international premiere. Vision was on the short list of inclusions for this but that was when Hank Pym was as well. It'd be away to bring back a fan favorite legitimately by transferring or making Vision in the mold of Coulson.
1. Marvel’s The Avengers (Disney) NEW [4,349 Theaters] PG13
Friday $80.5M, Saturday $69.7M, Weekend $200M, Global $640M
Officially beat out Harry Potter and is looking to set a couple of more records if it can keep the momentum through next weekend. Marvel better hurry and get Whedon signed up for the sequel before his schedule gets filled up.

Natasha knows she can't handle the Hulk. Rogers and Stark probably aren't afraid/respectful of the beast because they didn't fight him yet. When she got slapped aside by the Hulk, if it had'nt been for Thor, he would have killed her. That doesn't go by without leaving marks.
