I saw a picture of Bucky Barnes Winter Soldier and his panda make-up that someone posted on twitter - I wonder did that play a role in convincing them that the eye-makeup is something they can actually get away with showing. Of course it has to be stylized with fade-out around the edges - a sudden harsh black border with the surrounding skin would look ridiculous.

This looks awesome, I loved the trailer.

Right away it feels like some thriller from the 90s in the vein of Seven, Natural Born Killers, Silence of the Lambs, etc. It's like that scrapped David Fincher Batman: Year One movie that never got made. The fact that Nirvana - Something in the Way is playing really makes it evident that this could have been a Batflick from the 90s/early 2000s, and I love that. I wish people would realize by now that it doesn't matter what actor is playing Batman. It's all the same ****. With the tone and feel of the trailer, this could have easily come out in 1999 with a pre-American Psycho Christian Bale and it'd play out the same way. Keaton, Bale, Affleck, Pattison, it doesn't ****ing matter. We go for Batman.

Annnnd Batman looks great to me. The opening shot at the crime scene with him walking behind Gordon as the cops look at him in disbelief is cool. It's like a scene taken out of the comics or the 60s Adam West show where he's investigating the scene at the start of the story. Riddler looks and sounds cool, Penguin looks and sounds cool (can't even tell that's Colin Farrell under those prosthetics) and Batman sounds and looks cool. Every shot of him fighting, grappling and just standing there looks terrific and I loved the "I am Vengeance" line after he beats that thug to a pulp. He finally doesn't sound like a ****** anymore.

I see people are trying to meme "emo Batman" but I'm not really sure why. Live action Batman has always been emo and putting on eye make up. :lol That started all the way back in 1989 with Keaton and Burton (the ****ing KING of all that goth and emo ****) and has been consistent with EVERY live action incarnation of the character since. I think it's cool that they're FINALLY showing him wear the eye make up instead of it disappearing like it does in the Burton and Nolan movies. Just makes Batman seem even more unhinged.

Honestly, only thing I didn't like was Catwoman. She looks even lamer than the Anne Hathaway version. The mask looks goofy. Other than that, what's not to like? Those shots of Batman fighting cops in the cage, taking a bullet to the suit, grappling up the stair well while Penguin is like "this guy is crazy" seems exciting. Certainly a step up from the last time we saw Batman on screen*. :lol

*fighting in a CGI wonderland against aliens along with Super Friends. Looks like we're FINALLY getting a Batman film where the stakes are a lot smaller and more personal. No city destroying bombs, no alien invasions, no BS. Fingers crossed this is actually a pulp detective story like it's being advertised as in this trailer.

I could see Juaquin Phoenix's Joker fitting in in this version of Batman. He'd get destroyed like that dude in the trailer, but still, it'd be cool if those guys in clown makeup are using the clown motif because of Arthur.

Kevin Spacey child killer would be a better villain for this than Arthur.

Spawn could almost exist in this movie lol

Someone said The Crow and that's exactly what I though too.

This teaser felt like Batman as The Crow meets Seven... which might not be a bad thing, since the Crow is an alternative-rock Batman knock-off.

Curiouser and curiouser I grow.

I haven't watched any of the CW, so I've no idea what you're talking about regarding production values, but I've seen a lot of people are comparing this to a Netflix production... personally, I think it looks fine so far, and Matt Reeves' films have looked pretty good, so I'm not worried about production values.

As for "original ideas", well, I don't recall Batman being consulted openly by Gordon in front of his police force like that before, so that gave a very different vibe. Of course, maybe I've forgotten what goes on in earlier movies... haven't seen them in a while. Also, the "cobbled together" look of the suit is new for me. So far Batman has always had pretty high tech looking suits (except for Batfleck's first suit, then again, he probably could've shown up in his pijamas and still look intimidating).

At any rate, what "original ideas" are you looking for? It's Batman... "underlit in a goofy rubber suit", "beating the **** out of a bad guy" and "growling a one-liner" come with the territory. In the end all rubber suits are inherently goofy. It all depends on how it's shot and (under)lit.

IMHO, with Batman (as well as most comic book heroes), it's all about the nuances and the different aspects of the hero that you want to emphasise. Usually, with the first iteration, you get the "essential" hero, like Christopher Reeve's Superman, or Chris Evans' Captain America, or, to a lesser degree (IMHO) Keaton's Batman. So with Batman we've had more versions than than any other A-list hero in large, tent-pole blockbusters, so it's all about exploring different angles of the same character. Christian Bale was new because we saw the whole origins thing and it grew in a more "grounded" universe. Ben Affleck was new because we had never seen the old, cynic Batman who is little more than a vigilante. Now it seems we'll be getting a young(er) Batman who is working openly with the police, but doesn't seem to have polished his act to perfection yet.

So yeah, to me that's new and different, but to each their own.

Damn right spot on

Also some people need to stop setting bale Batman up so high. His fights scenes sucked, voice was awful and gave up after his ugly *** girl died who didn?t even like him. I mean he was a good Batman but people need to relax with him. His tdk and rises suit also sucked. Also imo rises is one of the worst Batman films I?ve ever seen. Terrible movie.

You are not wrong

Can you imagine if this turns out to be even better than both BB AND TDK!

Nolan is meh there I said it lol

I'm happy to see a more stylized world this time. The Batsuit really only works in a more stylized world. Even here it strikes me as out of place, but less so than in Nolan's world.

I wonder how creepy a truly home-made Batsuit would look? Like what they did with the Riddler here.

Don't get the criticism of this. He is the Batman while monitoring the press conference on his motorcycle. And it shows the realism since he does actually wear black paint around his eyes with the cowl. Unlike in BVS, where Affleck jumps out of the Batmobile and looks perfect with the cowl off.

I don’t think you can get more creepy than Jimmy Carey costume as Riddler lol

I hope the Riddler will still wear a more traditional green suit, but he was wearing a green jacket with the gimp mask. I like that Paul Dano is doing a Ted Levine kind of voice like Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. :D

:lol That's true.

But I really like the masking tape Mummy look. A guy like that coming at you in an alley like Jason would be genuinely scary... if that's the point of The Bat disguise. Most Batsuits don't look scary... they look cool.

Reeves said these are the beginnings of the Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman. Maybe towards the end possibly, but probably not for most of it, if at all. Can't believe that Colin Farrell is in that trailer. He has a significant prosthetic on.

I'm fine with it. It's just - what if he's really in a hurry? Is there ever a time where he half ***** the eye makeup or forgets to put it on at all as he rushes out the door to respond to the Bat Signal?

I think that is the interesting part. He is in Year 2 and still figuring things out. Would be like between BB and TDK territory, but this definitely feels like a more personal experience.

So people keep saying this movie takes place in the 90's, but there's a guy holding a cell phone when Batman was murdering that defenseless street performer in makeup. I think he was black too. :monkey3
