Well there is where the BS mess of this industry rears its ugly head, depends on your TV.

:chase

I was planning. I got my compatible receiver... I was going to jump on this... can't beat it for $220, then I was going to work on my projector (currently looking at the Epson 5040

As long as on your receiving end it allows HDR10/DV you "should" be all set.

It's really not that complicated but also be aware that firmware updates are required to fix some handshaking issues.

But that is the good thing I found with my Ps3 and Ps4... the firmware updates came and fixed known issues.

I have seen what HDR can do but have also seen examples of bad HDR and I can only imagine what 12bit Rec2020 must look like. :drool

Honestly I don't even think they're utilizing the full P3 space.

Hell no don't pass m, buy it with the black friday specials.

Will it be your main player?

Do you remember the Lexicon debacle with their $3,500 player with the Oppo parts inside from a $500 player. :lol

My point is don't be afraid of the Xbox One S because of the price.

Well for anyone that has invested into 3D movies they should feel the same way I do.

I do not have 4k. I think I'll live. Waiting for the "next big thing".

With no 4K Star Wars, LOTR, Miyazaki or Disney classics, Spielberg, Marvel, etc., I have absolutely no need to "upgrade." 1080p 3D is more than enough for me for the time being.

I agree.

Ok, just making sure LOL. Was not sure the way the prior statement was worded.

So you feel they still have the ability to unlock untapped potential within the device? Or am I misreading.

While I know that Khev's rationale is one of perfect common sense when it comes to this stuff I think only with my smaller head. :lol

Yeah Microsoft is a large enough competent entity with hardware partners that they will follow up with proper support.

Unless you want to wait for their new powerhouse console being released next November, I am.

I'll have to have jye pick me out a new set and player when I'm ready. :lol

Just buy me a cup of coffee. :lol

Hmmmm What would you suggest really?

I still have years of movies looking like this at home permanently burned into my memory:

So if 4K HDR becomes standardized (with an option for 3D) and they get the big gun studios to commit their flagship titles to the format sure I'll climb aboard. But until then I'll always be happy with 1080p widescreen due to the image above. :)

Including a....

... shoe shiner? WTF?!

If you want a very inexpensive "good enough" 4K/HDR player that ALSO is a great gaming machine then absolutely buy it, just remember it doesn't do true 4K gaming, it upconverts but it does output appropriate 4K/HDR bluray movies, unlike the PS4 Pro which is absurd.

It's an excellent choice if you're trying to get the best bang for your buck but right now it only outputs HDR10 which honestly is ok especially if you own a Vizio, Samsung or Sony tv (my biggest pet peeve remains 3D)

I still think Dolby Vision is going to lose to HDR10 even though DV is technically the superior of the 2.

Only you can make that decision, but make that decision by today lol.
