I don't care if it's fake 4K. I'm still buying it.

Big budget movies are shot in 4K, 6K (35mm), 8K or 12K (Imax 70mm).

Imagine how bad the 1080p shot AOTC will look on our 8K sets in 10 years. I guess they can redo all the CGI in a higher resolution but the live-action elements will look absolutely horrible unless upconverting technology increases exponentially.

Jeez you’re right AOTC was filmed 2K wasn’t it yikes.

I attended one of the four TPM full digital projection screenings on June 18th 1999.

2 LA / 2 NY they were the first time in cinema history that a fully digital projection of a movie was done.

I experienced cinematic history with taxation on trade routes lol

They gave the audience a super cool lanyard that I threw away from embarrassment.

What I did love was the pre-1997 SE release tease of “new” footage that I attended at the NJ Liberty Science Center Imax dome that was insane awesome.

I never actually knew that TPM had a digital conversion that early, lol.

You know I did see AOTC digitally projected at Mann's Chinese Theater Memorial Day weekend in 2002 and even on that huge screen I remember thinking that it looked pretty sweet (could have been "first digital cinema placebo" though) so maybe my eyes won't notice the difference either way, lol.

the 75" lg I got Wor-gar is awesome. I haven't noticed any issues with backlighting but it is a super uhd set. Really happy with it. Raiders and Empire look great and Guadiand of the galaxy really pop with all of the color. I know it about a foot smaller but would you really notice at that scale?

75" was all I thought I could take... until Jye tempted me with 86"! Now I'm a size whore. :horror

So far that AOTC 4K transfer is not looking so hot...

I mean look at Anakin and ObiWan:

I hear you but remember JYE watches a lot of porn on a tv that size. Make sure you have the smooth motion off or the money shot may look like when you were watching Jaws.:rotfl

Damn sorry for my brain fart Khev I got so busy I forgot to answer your question my bad lol

If you were talking about the somewhat expensive P “Quantum” version hell yeah that blows away the TCL but you’re referring to the regular P series and that is a tough one to answer.

It boils down to this.

TCL has 96 dimming zones.
P only has 56 dimming zones (Quantum model has like 196!)

BUT

TCL has only a 60 panel
P has a true 120 panel

Both use a proper VA panel vs the crappy IPS panel so that’s even.

I don’t know dude from what I read they’re equal in nits output so don’t believe Vizio’s 1,000 nits claim that’s only with Vivid mode engaged and no one ever uses Vivid or I sure hope they don’t. In none Vivid mode both are in the 800 nits area.

The Vizio does handle motion interpolation (soap opera effect) better as well as proper 24 film cadence so it’s better with video processing functions all due to that native 120 panel.

But the TCL did get better reviews on it’s deeper black levels.

So in other words:

:gah:

I can’t believe that BB didn’t lower the TCL to $500 for Super Bowl wtf!

Man did I luck out that my wife looked at the price that random week in December!

Thanks as always for the info only now I can't bring myself to spend $600 on that TCL when I know they've sold it for 5, lol.

Yup so true :lol

But it really is a toss up between those 2.

Hmmm

I would go with the TCL because I would notice changes in contrast before motion.

Wait! VA is better than IPS...?

Gawd, thinking is hard.

I stopped buying DVD's when Blu-Ray's became popularized and at the time I limited by purchases to my absolute favorite films. For a few years now, I stopped purchasing Blu-Rays altogether and haven't completed my library of favorites because with the introduction of 4K UHD Blu-Rays, I see this being a dog chasing its own tail type of situation.

What do you think the resolution ceiling will ultimately be? I feel as if completing a collection in 4K UHD Blu-rays will be it but who knows.

8K coming

Then... 10K SHD

Then... 12K

Then... the world will end.

Only weak broadcast signals available from the few human encampments managing to generate power. Kids hard wire their phones and send out 480p signals of Star Wars. Start collection over.

I really doubt they will go from 8k to 10k so 8k might be the resolution ceiling for quite some time and they will instead make strides on actually making a better pixel.

VR immersion maybe?

But VR is struggling to find the “killer app” right now and honestly they’re just too cumbersome to wear. If people hated wearing thin 3D glasses imagine VR goggles lol

I say give me an 8K OLED or 8K QLED with 8K HDR and i’ll never ask for another upgrade ever again.

But I have to have my blurays on a shelf.

I have yet to buy a digital only movie without the disc.

My luck I would win the lotto, buy a 100” 8K OLED, go to watch my first movie on it which are the 8K HDR unaltered OT that Disney finally released and as I go to hit the play button a nuke goes off where I live lol

JYE for your sake I hope you don't get nuked. Man just get the Harmy version of the trilogy or you can get the grindhouse version which is a scan of the trilogy 35mm print. I have both versions and they look great on the 75" screen. Khev will agree.do it.jpg
