Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I'd rather have a good actor that also looks like the character.

Fair enough, but there aren't too many huge muscular bulky good actors out there.
Eckhardt needs to think about the future.
Look what they did with Chris Evans in Captain America - they can take the actor and put him on any body they want.
Q: Did you do a lot of practical effects in Inception?
Christopher Nolan: Yeah, Inception has a lot of physical effects in it, as did The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. I think I’ve sort of always had a belief that however sophisticated a process of animation is, the audience can always on some level tell the difference between something that’s been photographed and something that’s been animated by an artist. What I found on Batman Begins, to give a very specific example, Janek Sirrs and Dan Glass, a very talented visual effects team, were very hot to do a digital Batman for certain things. I was very reluctant. They did a test for me. We shot Christian landing on the stairs of Arkham Asylum. We gave them that piece of film and said, “Okay, match that.” They came back with two pieces of film pretty much identical. I could tell which one was the effect which they were a little upset about, but I had to admit, it was incredibly close. I think that somebody who wasn’t really studying it wouldn’t have known the difference. As we took it a little further, what I realized is that’s because they had a real thing to match to, a real shot. Then they can do something extremely sophisticated with the animation. When they had to do shots from nothing, the level of reality was far, far lower. It was much, much easier to spot when a computer graphics element comes in. From that, what learned was if you can photograph something for real, they’re able to do much better work.
Yeah, last month the casting directors in the area were given an official heads up that it would be filmed here. It was a week after Nolan and his team were scouting locations.
I wasn't quite sure until I got official confirmation, so it's good to see Nolan confirming it. I'm definitely going to try and be a part of this, either as an extra or just observing the filming this summer. I discussed this with one of the film school directors who would be in charge of the project. If they do need extras he said he'd give me a call if there's a list.
It'd be a dream come true to witness/be a part of one of these things. Not just because I'm a Batman fan, but it'd be a great experience also.
Here's hoping. If anything, I'm definitely spying on the locations if I can.

i wonder will there be any new vehicles for batman besides the batpod? or maybe a new suit? wow can't wait to watch it.
He will probably get a new suit when Bane kicks his ass for the first time.
So Ra's Al Ghul will be in The Dark Knight Rises after all, but not in the way that you remember him from Batman Begins.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Josh Pence (The Social Network, Battleship) has been cast as young Ra's in the threequel:
"The story line has also been kept locked up in the Batcave but Pence's casting throws more than a few crumbs to follow. Ra's Al Ghul was played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, thus paving the way for a possible return of the supposedly dead character. Also, while the studio never confirmed [Marion] Cotillard's character, it has been rumored to be that of Talia Al Ghul, the daughter of Batman's mentor-turned-enemy. Sources say Pence will appear in scenes that take place 30 years prior to the present story."
Pence played Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network, but his face was digitally replaced by his "twin" Armie Hammer's in the final film.
