Mara definitely looked more and acted more like Lisbeth is described in the books. Overall I think it's better than the Swedish film but it has more to do with the cinematography and direction than anything else. Good movie from an average story.

I have to say the American remake managed to surpass the Swedish version, a film that I am a big fan of. Goes to show what an amazing director Fincher is.
How about the credits at the start of the movie? I thought they looked stunning

Went again! Omg I loved it yet again. I bought the soundtrack as well.

Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross are going to be the future golden couple of movie scores.

The Social Network is still very much one of my all time favourite scores. I haven't listened to much of this score because I want to see the movie first. What I have heard sounds fantastic and is firmly cementing these guys for movie score stardom.

I'm in full Laarsen mode - finishing the 3rd book and having just watched the first 2 Swedish films after seeing the Fincher version. I have to say that from a purely filmmaking aspect, the Fincher one is far superior. It's more stylish and interesting to watch than the Swedish one. And Mara captures the character better than Rapace. Mara has that distant, almost scary quality that I think is important for Lisbeth. It is interesting that the Swedish one seemed to assume there would be a trilogy with the seeding of information from the other books. The American one stands on it's own and is closer to the book in many ways. I understand why they did the ending like they did - just to save time and not have to explain so much. The Swedish version compacted the information too, but in a different way. I did like how the Swedish version kept Lisbeth more in the first part of the story - her coming across the big clue rather than how they handled it in the book (and American film) gets her involved in the big mystery in a more organic way.

I do prefer the dragon tattoo in the Swedish version though - the dragon clawing it's way out of her skin is very appropo for the character. And I like that it's tail is poking through her thigh as well.

I'm hoping that Fincher makes the other 2 films - but I'm kind of at a loss as to why this trilogy is so incredibly popular. They are interesting mysteries with an interesting character at the center, but aside from the pseudo-feminist tack - I don't see why they would become so popular.

Yeah I'm proud of my man Trent Reznor lol He's come a long way.
I've been a huge fan from the beginning. Whether he is being super heavy and aggressive and full of hatred back in the old days, to his sound now, he has always had a firm grip on soundscapes, engineering and creating eerie atmosphere.

Just saw it tonight.
Yeah the intro "bond" like sequence was awesome. The movie was a bit long for me, but that's ok. Started out slow, but picked up nice. Cool chick character for sure.

I saw this last night. I liked it alot. Although, being a fan of trent I found the music to be sort of distracting..probably because I was focusing on it to hard. After a while I just said, 'enough...watch the movie'. And then it began to flow better for me.

Mara was definitely a really good fit for the character. And daniel craig is one of my favorites. I really like finchers style.

I thought it was very well done all over.

Not that I can ever see that they will make them, but i think it would be pretty cool if they made 1:6 of Lisbeth Salander (Noomi or Rooney). Would anyone else buy her if they made one?

Whilst it hasn't bummed it hasn't been a major success at the box office. Will be interesting to see if Fincher gets to make the trilogy.

Just saw it tonight. Loved it! The opening sequence was more enjoyable then alot of movies I have seen lol

I was thinking about it. It might be cool to have a character like her on display. she's sort of like a more smart and controlled, less rash travis bickle type of anti-hero.

"breaking even" isn't a bad thing for a movie. Everyone's already getting paid regardless. With this movie, I'm sure it will go steady as the winter approaches and people are wanting to see another movie. It's got a good buzz and, I'm not sure about this, but upcoming award shows could playing into this further. Then on top of all that you have dvd sales.
