Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I'm on the fence too.

Prior to today, the rumor mill and hype machine was setting the Apple Tablet up as a revolutionary 'magical' device that could do things you couldn't even imagine. It was supposed to kill laptops.

But now that the iPad has been revealed, it's simply an evolutionary step forward. Sure, it'll be popular, very popular, but it's not quite what I was imagining.

I think I might actually wait until the 2nd gen. Well, I'd like to go to the apple store to try this thing out though.

I wonder how many people that already have an iPhone and are not Apple fanboys would buy this. I noticed that since the Iphone came out I hardly use my MacBook unless is for things that the iPhone can't do.

Do I need an iPad? No, my Iphone pretty much does the same things. Sure, a bigger screen and iWorks.

Do I want it? Yes. Am I going to get it? YES!!! But then again I am an Apple fanatic. Not everyone is.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

This is the Kindle Killer I think. I've avoided the e-readers because they couldn't do color and the size was too small. But this seems perfect for something like that. Great for taking to meetings or school to take notes with no keyboard clacking to annoy others.

But I really think Marvel and DC should jump on this now. This kind of thing could revitalize the comic book industry like nothing else. I won't go to a comic shop weekly, but if I could download an individual issue I'd definitely do that. And I'd still get the trades when they came out.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I'd save final judgement on this for the full video on Apple's sites, stills and chat are one thing, actually watching the live demonstration will really give you insight into how nice the functions are or aren't. I remember thinking Aperture was just another photo program until I watched the demo vids and saw the power it would offer me.

I'm kicking myself now for having a Kindle.

I agree about your DC/Marvel comment. I would seriously consider an iPad for that reason alone.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Is this something that will be updated with a better version on what seems like a semi annaul basis like the iphone? I like what I'm seeing but I don't want to be an early adopter if it means next year we'll have one thats thinner, faster, with a bajillion bytes more memory for less money.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Is there really any Apple device that isn't on a fairly annual update plan?

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Not sure. Thats why I'm asking. Only thing apple I've ever owned is an ipod touch. But I waited until the 2000th version of that came out.

Most likely.

That is pretty much the story with technology.

Reminds me of Rita Rudner's skit ages ago where she said she won't buy a CD player unless she gets a letter from Sony guaranteeing that it will be the last thing invented. If she buys one and they invent something better she'll snap. As a matter of fact all those people pushing supermarkets carts on downtown are people that bought an 8 track tape. :rotfl
