Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Well the Uruk Hai were much more threatening looking to me because they looked REAL.

Azog looked like he was out of a video game to me.

So I didn't feel any threat level I that I should have

:exactly:

I feel he would have been much scarier had he been a real guy as apposed to cgi. :/ There are loads of huge actors out there that could have played him.

Agreed.

I did really like Azog's design - his jury rigged hook arm made me want to wince every time I saw it. But even with a nice design, he still had a lot of that "weightless CGI" feel to him.

I ain't gonna lie. I would have preferred a real guy.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

FINALLY saw this. I enjoyed the story. It was great to be back in Middle Earth...I'm ranking it an 8.5/10 That may go up once I see it again in 24fps. I just didn't really care for the 48fps...took me out of the film too many times and was more distracting than anything.

Agree with your thought on Azog and said as much in my thought on the film. I also much preferred the looks of the wargs from the trilogy over the ones in The Hobbit. Even if they were supposed to look different the ones in the trilogy looked like real creatures while the ones in The Hobbit looked more CGI.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Really? I though the wargs were the worst CGI creatures in the LotR. The warg attack in particular is almost unwatchable IMO. I thought the Wargs always looked better in this. I mean, surly the CGI will be better now than 10 years ago. :huh

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Regardless of any claims that it's 'not identical', it's the same theme. And I found it glaringly obvious and distracting both times I watched the movie.

If the excuse is that they are trying to link that theme to Azog, then that's pretty lame. That scene is about Thorin.

That said, I would be curious to read the blog you're talking about. :peace

No offense but any claim stating its the same theme isn't correct at all. I have the soundtrack and have listened to it a lot since Dec 11th. It starts out similar but it's not the same theme. Sorry Mags I trust my ears, knowledge, and what I've read. :peace

It's the same enough that if someone else were to "compose" it, they would be sued for plagiarism.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Agreed that Azog was just too CGI looking. As was the Goblin King (but not as much). I just hope they do something more with Azog, and not just have him as a revenge plot for Thorin. I already thought they spent too much time on him. And why didn't the eagles pick him up as well and drop him?!? They did for more than half the orcs in that last scene.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Regarding the final battle Azog music, I agree 100% with those that although not technically exactly the same as the Nazgul fight music, it was close enough that I didn't like it.

Regarding Azog himself, I woulda preferred an actual actor like Lurtz, but I didn't hate it. And although not a super big deal, I would have preferred Azog died and they would have used Bolg as the name of the pale Orc. Even if the scenes were all the same with just the name change just to maintain a little better continuity with the book.

Regarding talking birds, I don't need to hear them actually speak. Communication with birds without actual speech was done when Saruman was getting intel in Isengaard from the Crebain from Dunland so a precedent has been set.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

The Wargs in both looked good to me. However, the chase scenes in both looked a touch off but I wouldn't call either of them unwatchable ever. I have much bigger issues with say Frodo showing the Ringwraith the ring or Frodo sending Sam away.

Agree with that.

...and speaking of Wargs, I think I'm the only one that liked the LotR Wargs better.

I don't know if you're alone on that. I like the Wargs from The Lord of the Rings a lot. Though the Wolf design is pretty sweet.

There is just so many awesome designs its hard to choose sometimes. :lol

I was expecting him to bite it myself. Would really help push the revenge factor Bolg has for the Dwarves. I do hope we see Bolg at worst during the Battle of the Five armies.

Good point on the Birds.

The thing about them using makeup is how incredibly restricting it is. Lurtz has what, 2 quotes in Fellowship? And none of the other orcs ever needed to show emotion. With the CG they were much more realistically able to show emotions and dialogue that looked good, without him having to scream all of his lines like the Uruk's in LOTR.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

In the art book they talk about how with some of the Goblins the CGI allowed them to make them better looking as far as designs. There was a change to more men in suit Goblins so they had to fix some of the designs to fit in. Someone mentioned the Goblin King and his design. I didn't like the chin but overall his design was pretty cool.

I'm also glad that Gandalf referred to them as Gundabad Wargs in the Hobbit which explains why they were different.

Are you talking about the Chronicles book? I'm still waiting on my copy.
