Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Really? I though the wargs were the worst CGI creatures in the LotR. The warg attack in particular is almost unwatchable IMO. I thought the Wargs always looked better in this. I mean, surly the CGI will be better now than 10 years ago. :huh

I'm talking particulary of closeup shots. In my opinion the wargs from the trilogy look real while closeups of the wargs from The Hobbit look too CGI to me. Your last sentence is exactly what some of my problems were with the movie.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Agree with that.

...and speaking of Wargs, I think I'm the only one that liked the LotR Wargs better.
No I liked them better as well and posted as such. I also didn't see why they looked different. Someone posted that they thought they were from different areas. I actually Googled about it earlier and it said that the way they were pictured in The Hobbit is much truer to Jackson vision and how they were described in the books than how they were presented in the trilogy.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Are you talking about the Chronicles book? I'm still waiting on my copy.

Yeah, I got an unsigned copy from Amazon so I've looked it over a couple times.

I'm also glad that Gandalf referred to them as Gundabad Wargs in the Hobbit which explains why they were different.

Agreed. It was a nice difference and I believe something was said as well about Azog. I know he's a Gundabad Orc from my readings. It just goes to show how vast Tolkien's world is.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Man I hope SS do an Azog PF with Thror's head as the exclusive to mirror the berserker pf :rock

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

The thing about them using makeup is how incredibly restricting it is. Lurtz has what, 2 quotes in Fellowship? And none of the other orcs ever needed to show emotion. With the CG they were much more realistically able to show emotions and dialogue that looked good, without him having to scream all of his lines like the Uruk's in LOTR.

I have no doubt if they chose to use real actors, they could have pulled it off. They did a pretty good job with all the Orcs in Lord of the Rings. But it's not a big deal, I'm ok with CGI Azog.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Saw it again this past weekend and have to say I enjoyed it even more. I think I got more out of it the second time since I wasn't so awestruck this time around and was able to pay more attention.

Here's something I was thinking about:

I don't get why they changed the whole story of Azog so much and didn't have him die at the battle of Azanulbizar. :dunno I liked the fact that (in the Books) Dain beheads him as Azog did to Thror and then warns Thrain to stay out of Moria. I could have seen changing it so that Thorin kills Azog and then have Bolg be the one pursuing the Dwarves for revenge though.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I would have preferred that as well. Thorin killing Azog and Bolg chasing after them. Also, I hope we get a mention of the real reason that the Dwarves didn't take back Moria. Even if the Balrog is just mentioned in a way Saruman mentions him in FOTR it will work.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

From the blog:

Here, by way of making it up to you, a little bit of a hint. The music of Azog has caused something of a stir this weekend. Why does his last scene in the film include music we've previously associated with Mordor? I can't fully answer that question, but I can lead you a bit: Azog's primary theme is a descending pair of thirds (G-Eb-F-D) with a chromatic snap at the end (Eb-D-Db). Musically, Azog has a connection to Mordor's musical world from his first appearance on. His final scene is very much in line with this approach. Why this consistent connection? We shall see ...

So it sounds like we will find out in one of the other movies why there is a Mordor connection.

Regardless, the scene felt like it was about Thorin, not Azog.

He's going to end up being a servant of the Necromancer. That's my guess.

What is the real reason the Dwarves didn't take back Moria?

100% agree. The way PJ presented Shore's theme it seemed to give propulsion to Thorin's resolve to attack Azog.

Hmmmmmmmmm...and there could be a scene where Azog meets up with the Witch-King or The Mouth of Sauron to report his progress (kind of like in ROTK with Gothmog). I would love to see something like that, but at the same time I could also see it kind of stretching to connect with LOTR a bit too much.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I found little Goblin Scribe to be very entertaining for his brief moments on screen. Just the way he cackled psychotically as he zipped down the line, kind of like a gremlin. :D

Yeah, that little guy was awesome!:lol I was saying that he would make a great life-size prop replica.:yess:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

That's probably going a little far. That being said I will be curious to see how they tie it together.

Yeah, that did make laugh as well. It was a nice entertaining little bit and honestly I liked the little addition.

It reminded me of that little dude that sits next to jabba
