Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Since we're talking about it, this year i enjoyed Skyfall the most :lecture

Yeah, just looking at it this seems like a play by play and why things were done or almost redone. I think book two light he good for those that want to see what Tolkien almost did with The Hobbit.

Alternatively, you could get the Annotated Hobbit, which has notes at the sides of the page rather than interrupting the story :exactly:

Skyfall was awesome! :rock

That's another good choice. I have two copies of that somehow.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Probably shouldn't be. :lol I remember putting it with my other books and was like, "I didn't think I had this already." :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

To whom it may concern, the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (1st Movie in Hobbit trilogy) is destroying Batman Begins (1st Movie in Batman trilogy) at the box office. :rotfl

Yes but keep in mind the Hobbit follows what is considered to be one of the best trilogies in cinema history, while Batman Begins came off the abomination known as Batman and Robin.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Just got back from my second viewing.

24pfs makes this movie look so much better. The scenery, the effects, everything just looks so much better.

4 things that bug me:

1) Why did they use the Nazgul music for when Thorin faces Azog at the end? Really, really lazy. I mean I love that music, but thematically it's just really weird.

2) Why do the Orcs attack in broad daylight? Did they ever do that in LotR (not counting the Uruk Hai)?

3) You know that scene where Galadriel says to Gandalf, 'If you ever need me I will come', and then vanishes? Prepare yourself for a magically appearing elf Queen at some point in the next two movies.

4) Are they really setting up Sauron as a true Necromancer?

From the Wiki entry on "Nazgul":

In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) the White Council claims that the Witch-king of Angmar was killed when Angmar was defeated, and that his enemies buried him in a tomb protected by enchantments. It is implied that the Witch-king has been raised from the dead by Sauron, explaining why he is called the Necromancer. This is a major departure from The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, in which the Witch-King escapes after the destruction of Angmar, and Glorfindel makes a prophecy that he would not meet his death at the hand of man; in both the book and film version of Return of the King, the prophecy is fulfilled when the Witch-King is killed by a woman, Eowyn.

My only hope at this point comes from Galadriel's line about the "riddle of the Morgal blade". I hope that means that they will discover that, in fact, the 9 never died, and "Necromancer" is a misnomer.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I also want to say that I really like Azog. I think his CGI is excellent, and the character is just wicked.

I think it actually works better than having his son Bolg being the one tracking them since I've never been able to get my head around how Orcs could have offspring. I mean, they were spawned...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Doug Adams said its not exactly the same theme. Having listened to the OST a few times I agree. It starts off the sameish but its like I said not quite the same.

The orcs riding the Wargs in TTT do the same. So it's no different there.

If they show an attack on Dol Guldur it's possible but it could simply mean she's offering help say if Sauron comes back. Interested to see where this goes.

I don't know. I think it's more he has brought back his spirit. The Witch-king even in Lord of the Rings does t have an actual physical form anymore. The Nazgul are all basically walking spirits.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I don't hate it but I'd have preferred Bolg. Just for sticking closer to the history aspect of the Dwarf/Goblin Battle.

Sauron didn't "bring him back" though, did he? The 9 were men that "faded" to wraiths (just like Frodo was staring to fade towards the end) so they never died at all. "Necromancer" was never accurate.

Funny how different things bug different people. :)

I don't know who Doug Adams is, and I've never heard of an OST. All I know is that the music that plays when Thorin goes to meet Azog is the same music that plays for the Nazgul in LotR.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Just got back from the movie (2D version) and I really enjoyed it.

Scenery looks great and the cast does a really good job

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Is Bolg no longer in the upcoming films?

Had to look that up. I didn't even realize he was in there.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Yeah, these guys are just making it sound like he's no longer in it. I just want to make sure I didn't miss some big news or something.

I mean this as no offense Mag, but I just don't understand how anyone can say Azog was a successful CGI creation. He's the most blatantly and unconvincing CGI character I've seen in a long, long time. I think what I'm trying to say is, how can some people's eyes perceive him as well-done, and others see the obvious CGI? I just don't get it.

Also, I do hope Bolg hasn't been removed from the next two films. He is listed in the credits of the first film, so I'm wondering if he was in the background of one of the flashback battles or something. He just looks so awesome.

EDIT:

He was present during the Thorin/Azog battle flashback. Dwalin attacks him.

Are you sure? My second viewing I had my eyes peeled for Bolg in the flashback scenes, and I saw some Orcs that looked like him, but never saw Bolg himself.
