Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I remember reading somewhere (perhaps in the appendices) that the real reason Gandalf was supporting the Dwarves in there mission was that he needed the Dragon dealt with. There was a worry that Sauron (the Necromancer) would be able to use Smaug, which would be a terrible thing.

I would like to see that angle in the movie, otherwise the whole 'we need to get our gold back' is a kind of weak driving force for the movie.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Don't know if any of you watched the BAFTA awards. They gave Christopher Lee the BAFTA Fellowship award. He's looking very very frail. His 88 years have finally caught up to him I'm thinking. Question is, will he be able to physically do Saruman again, even filmed with greenscreen? He may be able to pull it off if he was only required to deliver his lines sitting down, but even his voice seemed frail. :(

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I've been a huge fan of Lee's since the mid-60s and I have many of his movies on DVD/VHS. The day he passes on will indeed be a sad one for me. It will be so great to see him back in Middle Earth once again; I know it really means a lot to him.

I was about to post the same thing. He did look very frail.
He's a great man who I had the pleasure to meet back in 2003

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I really hope Christopher Lee can do Saruman again. They can just do to him what they did to Patrick Stewart in X-men 3.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Many thanks for that very emotional clip Dino...truly a wonder moment.

Bill

:exactly:
Thanks Dino :goodpost:

Wow, I've not seen any pics of him for a few years now and he just looks so frail.
Truly a legend and deserving winner :rock made even more special with the wonderful standing ovations he got :clap :clap.

On a side not I 've never seen a pic of Tim Burton, at least I can see now where he got the idea for Edwards Scissorhand's hair from :lol
x :wave

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Guys, he is Saruman. But I just don't see it happening after watching that. I hope it will happen, but feel things may not go that way.

:(

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

That was awesome and is a bit emotional. I do truly hope they figure out how to bring him back but he got something he truly deserves for his work over the years.

Clock has been ticking, not only for Lee but for McKellan. Too many flipping delays in production. :monkey4 If they had been able to do this 2 years ago as originally planned, he probably would have had the stamina. Now....who knows? Time and mortality waits for no one. :monkey2

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Guy.

"I sure hope Chris Lee lives long enough to finish this. He is so weak and fragile. Ian McKellen is getting pretty old too. I sure hope they film this before he dies as well".

This talk seems kind of weird to me. Just me I guess. :dunno

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't wish anything negative on anyone. Not weird....just realistic/pragmatic and very frustrated at the MGM/actors' union/New Line brouhaha through the years.

Yeah, nothing weird at all. Just stating facts about the situation. Sorry Pix its just you I think.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, no offense meant. I cherish all the Lee and McKellan I can get in all of their amazing performances, and never want to see them go. Also, they are the characters in this film to my senses. I don't think I can be as forgiving with a change as I was with Dumbledore in Harry Potter.

Just saying, love these guys. :D

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Lee I can see worrying about as being a bit justified. But McKellen? I bet he is in better condition of both mind and body then most people who post here. :monkey1

If I were Lee I would tell you I would tell you all to F off and use my ginormous long fingers to flip the bird at you because it is his life that is important, not some movie. Can you honestly say that if he were in the same room as you that you would say to him "Mr. Lee, I sure hope you don't die until you have finished filming Saruman."

If you wouldn't say that to his face then you shouldn't strain too much why that should be a weird thing to write and if you would well then I guess you are a tactless git :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't think anyone has said they don't value his life. Nor value Saruman over his life. People just said he looks frail and that sadly as his life ends so would the chance to see him reprise a role we love. I don't think anyone is being tactless or rude.

You however are being your usual sanctimonious self.
