Bottom line. Don't like it. Don't buy it. Take the $350 and put it in a cd or save it for a rainy day. AK

Or stash it away to pay for the Obi-Wan VS Anakin diorama! :lol :lol :rotfl

I'm truly at a loss to see what the big deal is. If it looks the same, how could this matter?

It's a similar debate as "Frodo should be cheaper since he's smaller" - the cost of material is only a tiny percentage of the costs involved in producing an item like this.

Do any of you really believe that more than 5% of those buying would have ever even noticed the difference when they received it if SSC hadn't said anything?
_________
edit: Okay, just read the explanation and it makes even more sense. The only thing that we would have expected to be polystone would be the body which we'll never see. But if the pieces didn't fit together due to the different materials used it would look worse.

I'm truly not trying to be an apologist - Buffy fans know that I'm quick to criticize if I see a problem. But I just don't see it here.

I'm with ya Dave. Been saying this all day long. In one ear and out the other.

Dave, you should read Sith Lord's post to see what all the fuss is about! Evidently, polystone is more expensive than plastic, therefore, the price on Fett should be reduced since it'll only contain plastic molded stuff. That's the entire argument in a nutshell!:)

I read his - you should read mine and Brant's. THE COST OF MATERIALS IS ONLY A TINY PORTION OF THE COSTS OF PRODUCING A PIECE LIKE THIS.

Dave you don't get it. The heavier something is, the better it is. It doesn't matter what it looks like, as long as it's heavier than hell, that's all that matters.

Doesn't matter Dave, some people will look for any loophole or opportunity to pinch a few more bucks off the bottom line when buying things, the minds are set and will never be changed, they feel they're getting ripped off and that's that, at least now appreciative Wait Listers will get a chance to own one with all of the cancellations.

Seems that way doesn't it.

It doesn't make any sense, but I actually have that subconscious response. Lurtz was really heavy and that just triggered something in my brain that made me think he was expensive. I can't explain it. But once Fett is on display in my office, the appearance will mean everything and the weight will mean nothing.

What I want to know now is if he is solid plastic or hollow plastic, because then I can cut a coin slot into it and use it as a piggy bank since it is ABS and won't ever warp or break....:lol

I'm sorry, but I still don't think "Premium Format" and cheap plastic go hand in hand. I certainly don't view plastic statues as high-end museum quality pieces and I would contend that most other collectors don't either. I just think SS kinda "stuck" their customers on pricing this time around for a plastic statue. If it had been $225 or even $250 I don't think too many people would be complaining(myself included), but at $325 I feel they overpriced this piece big time.

Sideshow's Jabba the Hutt is proof that you don't have to be heavy to be great, I think he's one of the best sculpted pieces ever, and as dimensionally large as he is, he weighs nothing, and I didn't feel like I got a lesser product because he was hollow and weighed nothing, I was blown away because the sculpt was perfect, the paint apps beautiful, and I finally hade a great representation of a favorite character, that's what collecting's about, enjoying the products, not how much you can save and all that, those are things you have to do sometimes to fit things into your life, but at the heart of collecting, it's not about the money, hell, in the real world, NOTHING I own for collectibles justifies it's cost, I could buy 3 cars probably with all the money I've invested in collectibles, and any rational person would call me nuts for that, but I have items that make me happy as hell, and I don't look at them thinking about their cost, I see it on my shelf or break it out of it's storage been to look at and think wow I'm glad I got that and it was worth whatever I paid for it.

Let me say again I'm keeping my order and like others I am more into the overall look of the piece. I'm gonna enjoy the heck outta Fett as long as he looks like the proto I saw at SDCC!

I'm not freaking out about price point here at all....

...but... if cost of materials is only a small part of price... why was the ploystone chess table significantly more expensive than a plastic version shoulda/woulda been? I do agree the knife cuts both ways here.

Even if the price difference is small... then give people a SMALL break. Again, I know the horse has long since left the barn here... but those are my honest thoughts.

Case in point: I'm getting work done on my house. Turns out a certain sand I needed wasn't available for some pavers I was having installed. So the contractor bought a slightly different product from a different vendor. That sand cost $270 less. The job is a $15,000 job. Only a small difference in the overall price of the job... but he gave me the $270 back. He didn't have to. Coulda said... welll it took me more time to go find it and I had to spend extra gas picking it up etc etc etc.

Right, but Jabba is a "figure", we knew he was going to be plastic because figures are made out of plastic.

Fett is a PF statue, we thought he was going to be polystone but came out plastic which people associate with figures.

Not quite the same comparison when laid out like that is it?

I'll repeat myself: While I'm leary, I will withhold all judgement until I have Fett in-hand. :D Who's with me?

Point I'm trying to make is why are people so obsessed with what material it's made out of, if it looks kick ass and comes to you in one piece and lasts the longest it can, isn't that what's most important, not that it's made of ""lesser"" materials.
