That's nothing. Some people still think that AvPR was crap only because it felt like a B-movie. Even tho that's exactly what original PREDATOR is... :lol

first you defend Rob Zombie's halloween 2....

now you are comparing AVPR with Predator 1? whats going with you? all that soy is messing with your HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg bro stop eating that immediately!!!

Exactly. People really don't understand what made those old films great and complain about stuff that is not even the issue.

the issue is that AVPR is so dark you cannot even tell what people are doing or whats going on. and the action is so shaky you cannot even enjoy the fights.
thats the problem.

how can you compare that crap with predator? which had perfect cinematography

AvPR is probably in my list of top ten most hated films. Just such manure on all levels. I can't even give Wolf Predator any proper credibility because you can't even see him half the time.

This new movie still looks to be a turd of epic proportions though.

Correct.

The fact that it was a B movie made it so the artists working in it had to be at their most creative.

And yes, people don't get what makes Predator great, that's why they try reinvent it or "expand" on it.

I'm convinced no-one short of a George Miller or other directors of comparable caliber could make a decent Predator movie.

S. Craig Zahler could

Predator is not a flawless film by any means but it's so damn macho and fun that I would never tire watching it. Can't say the same about the others films.

Pretty damn close though.

Even if you remove the Predator entirely, just the banter, the walk through the jungle is entertaining enough. I almost wish it was just a muscle head film like Commando, and we got sequels. Dutch's team is perfect. You don't want anyone to die. Where as you watch the Colonial Marines in Aliens and aside from Hicks and Hudson, I could give a **** who gets zapped.

i dont consider it a B movie either. B movies tended to be goofy and cheesy but made cheap. Predator is definitely not cheesy nor goofy, it takes itself very seriously.
it doesnt look cheap either and they create a lot of tension. it is too serious to be a B movie. not silly enough.

McTiernan composed with camera shots. He made sure you were incredibly aware of the surroundings. It never feels stifling until the guerrilla camp where it was shot with a second unit. That scene is the weakest aspect in the film. But the lead up to them sneaking around the perimeter is fantastic.

i do feel it is disrespectful to call it just a B movie, but these two bois might be just friendposting so i guess i shouldnt fall for it :lol

But it is a B movie, no shame in that, B movie status only indicates the budget tier of the movie, not necessarily its quality.

It's got minor flaws, mostly due to compromises made to appeal to the producers, on everything else that was in McTiernan's hands it is flawless.

It many not be objecively on par with Alien due to said minor flaws, but on entertainment factor, balance and pace, I put it above Alien.

It’s showing it’s age in the sense of the bad effects and choppy editing.....it was always a second tier film, that was made great by the characters and last 15 minutes.

The scene where they attack the base is really cheesy fun, but it’s very poorly edited and shot.

The suspense is done very very well, and the end is fantastic....

There are some seriously bad effects at the end (the graphic overlays) and also some terrible editing there as well.

This is the main reason it’s aged. What was once acceptable for modern filmmaking is considered “B” quality now. My kids think it’s totally old and dated....they are not wrong. It’s hard to look at it with fresh eyes. If you haven’t seen it in a while , take a look.

Stan’s Predator still looks great.....that explosions thou....
