I can't believe people are having a hard time with the guy on the road - his behavior made it clear that he'd been part of a larger group and something had happened. We don't need the details - it was pretty obvious. The point was about Rick, Michonne and Carl, and the choices they are making, not about nitpicking the background on the random guy.

THis is my favorite episode back from break. It gave us a chance to see the effects of the apocalypse on Morgan, bring a bit of closure to that thread, bring Michonne into the group a bit, and expand on Carl. It also gave Rick a chance to get his head on straight a bit more. Great dialog too - better than the past couple episodes. The idea of the traps was cool too, and the idea that Morgan sees his job now as killing zomibies.

was it a new crossbow or just arrows? I Couldn't tell,

there is a pic but not sure if it is new or not

That's definitely not the same crossbow Daryl's been carrying. No sight. Split front, rather than one solid piece.

Daryl's original crossbow is a Horton Scout. Not sure what the new one is.

Really strong episode - certainly my favorite of S3. Loved the pacing, the cinematography, and the writing. Great to see a loose end tied up and I totally agree, as soon as "previously on the Walking Dead" included reference to S1/Rick on the hill, it was a pretty safe bet who was shooting at the group from the top of that building. :slap

I enjoyed how calm the group was when they were surrounded by walkers in the car..."Cover your ears..." :lol Awesome to see Michonne open up and bond with Rick and Carl. She is an ideal lieutenant under Rick, and it was great to see Carl stating she had become "one of us." Rick's journey back to clarity was really helped along by seeing Morgan's mental downturn from isolation and his inability to forgive himself for his son's death. And seeing how the group passed on that hitchhiker, (in contrast to S2 when Rick insisted on bringing Randall back to the farm in a similar situation), shows their shift in perspective.

Fantastic stuff.

Yes, now that WGP is ready to roll out with his 1/6 Horton for us 1/6 customizers a new crossbow is brought into the mix - LOL! Oh well, I like the original better.

Truth is ... Daryl's original crossbow is actually a youth crossbow. The new one is probably better. Wonder how long they've been trying to figure out a way to get him a new one.

Normally, I like Carl but last night I found him to be a little too big for his britches.

The writing seemed inconsistent again in that Rick stated in the previous episode the desire to take Carl with them and that he was "ready". Then once on the road he wants him to stay in the car or be escorted by Michonne. What was he ready for exactly? :dunno

Ya he is ready to go out with Rick but I can see him still not thinking Carl is ready to go out in the wild alone. It made sense to me.

I thought that was the point. He was supposed to be too big for his britches.

They've built Carl up to be a badass since Ep 1. They wanted to show that, for all his capability, he's still a kid ... and his judgment still needs work. Michonne recognized it.

(1) They've shown Carl being a badass ... but not much in front of Rick.
(2) He already lost his wife. He's protective, even if the kid's a badass.

I can go with him having second thoughts at various times. Its his kid and he is the lone parent now responsible. I'm sure he's torn between tossing him out in the battle and protecting him.

Yeah, they've shown him to be tough for sure. I'm just not a fan of smartass kids. He's semi-adult but he has to learn his place a bit.

Good episode, probably the best in a long time. Rick is clear now, right? The encounter with M______ is more about Rick than it was about anything else.

Apparently this episode was the first post-Mazzara episode? Sure felt like it. The writing was better. Good levity, everyone gets quality lines. Subtle too, with the visual cues (zombie girl Erin at the start and the screaming idiot's backpack). Maybe it's just luck but I think the new writer understands that TWD is at its best when it limits itself to small group of characters. Looking forward to see what he does with the rest of the season.

Perfect dialogue:

Rick: "Do you wanna drive?"
Michonne: "yeah."
Rick: "Good, because I see things."

It's not post-Mazzara yet, because he has more episodes to end the season with. But this episode was written by Gimple.

Which is very promising for season 4.

That comes with maturity. He's also coming into the age where he will be challenging authority. The rebellious teenage years.

It does. The fact he's going to have to grow up so quickly that would make those years even more fun. :lol

I imagine that's because you're a teacher, but I completely agree with you. :D

That plays into it for sure. :lol
