I don't get the Rick hate, never have. In my eyes, you kill off Rick, you kill the show.

Walking Dead is Rick, any marathon will show you that. Say they killed him off this season, now imagine each sequential episode without him. Imagine the series posters and covers (that, to date, have all featured Rick and his evolution). The show started with him, the show will end with him. Do I think the writers dumb/pussify him a bit in some cases? Yeah, sure. But they've done that to pretty much everyone haven't they? :lol Carol seems to be the only one with any *****.

I've gradually grown to dislike Rick immensely across the seasons. I just can't take his constant frowny, weepy-eyed brooding and Batman growl anymore, or calling his son Corrull. He is everything that emo kids get beat up for. :D That's more Lincoln's fault through his acting though I guess. He tortures every word of every line as it's coming out of his mouth.

However, I don't disagree that he's important, without him the show loses an anchor. At least at this point.
But last episode was 100% Rick-free, and I enjoyed it much more than the previous week. The story could continue without him, but it's not the time for something so drastic. Maybe he's getting ready to enter into a new frame of mind that I'll find more appealing, because he did finally accept that his illusion of getting things back to the way they were before was dumb. It's a totally new world, and no matter what he wants to have happen, it's going to take decades for humanity to find some solid ground to consider rebuilding.

So in a room full of people, you'd forego the badass you've known for over a year, for the blood-covered crazy chick with the katana and glaring eyes, that you don't know? :lol

don't forget the creepy walkers that she has following her all the time

The question at this point, with ammo getting increasingly low, is, why isn't everyone sidearming a sword/blade? She walks through a group of Walkers like Aragorn moving through Orcs. Its not like she has magical powers, she just used the sword and got good at it, I know its supposed to be her "thing", look shes the sword chick, but its making everyone trying to kill walkers with dull number 2 pencils to the eye sockets look ridiculous.

I think that is one reason they had Rick find the hatchet a week ago. If you pay attention, when Carl dumps out their bag, the hatchet was in there along with the food; so he didn't drop it after killing that walker in the bar. Now he just needs to get good with it like he does in the comics.

I still like Rick, is he a complete wet at times? yeah, but I still like him for trying

Though I do hope he becomes more of a badass, kinda like the way he was heading towards the end of season 2

The whole realisation that things can't be the same, he did that already before finding the prison, we just jumped forward a year to find him back to square one again. Hopefully this time it'll stick

I don't hate Rick, as much as I complain about him. I just want to be able to root for him for a change. Michonne and Daryl pick up way too much of his slack. You could even say the same about Carl to a point.

I am at a loss for when any of those three made a decision on Rick's behalf. Do you have examples of that happening or of the slack that those three have picked up? :dunno

I guess a better way of saying is that Rick is too indecisive most of time. The whole Prison vs. Woodbury war showed how Rick was too apprehensive about any move he thought of. He wanted peace with the Governor, and he was going to hand over Michonne originally. But it was plain as day that the man would never back off, no matter what they did.

I can't think of examples off the top of my head. I guess a way of saying is that Daryl and Michonne don't need other people to survive and they hold their own.

You want to start with Michonne taking care of Hershall's head at the beginning of the mid-season premiere? Or Daryl protecting Beth now that they're on the run because Rick was duped by the Governor?

I can understand his side of it, but for too long he's been only worried about his family more than protecting anyone else. That's one similarity he shares with the comic version, at least up until this point. Maybe he'll be more concerned about the safety of the group now, considering Carl doesn't need him anymore really.

I disagree. He's been too incompetent to see the bigger picture regarding the safety of his family and acted out of instinct time and again (which AMC has made a point to show fails him every time) vs. thinking things through, being calm and calculated and looking to the long term. It's what's gotten the group into trouble time and again.

Yeah I agree a lot of his thinking is instinct. I just don't get his behavior in S4 pt1 at all. He just turned a blind eye to the outside world and played make believe farmer.

Well what do you think happens when he decides to leave? Write him off as going to college? :lol

as awesome as that spin off would be, my point is that they aren't going to kill him off unless he decides to leave the show and they are forced to

Isn't this what Carrrrl was *****ing about? I think (Hope) Rick will change once he heals. His time of feeling sorry for himself and his actions need to be over.

I hope so too. I'm tired of the rollercoaster ride of liking rick, then being completely disappointed by one of his stupid decision, then comes a badass moment where you think he's fiiiiiiiiinally stepping up, then back to incompetence. :(

Yeah, I think Rick has finally realized he needs to grow a pair and step in in this world in order to get what he wants. Negotiation doesn't work. Only a show of force will get you what you want. Survival of the fittest.

There is no reason they wouldn't just shoot that during the Walking Dead's off season. I think they work from Aprilish to about Octoberish. There are several months between October and April to shoot a movie there. And with Kirkman being the driving force behind that, he'd certainly want it to work out between Walking Dead and that show, so I don't see any schedule conflicts there. I just don't know how Kirkman find the time anymore to write the comics :lol

Then again, AMC did shoot a Pilot with David Morrissey before the Governor died this year :monkey3
