Also tired of stupid "celebs" trying to use platform to force beliefs on others.

I agree with the first part of your statement. But how, exactly, does someone exercising their first amendment rights "force" their belief on others? Don't like it? Change the channel.

I used the term "forced" as it seemed to fit better in context of the current landscape. Many people voted for an individual, most have accepted this outcome, but some continue to try and continue a certain narrative that doesn't fit anymore. I'm also referencing the videos that people like Joss Sweden made that were made with intent of manipulating others' beliefs about certain topics. So I figured that's why I chose that term.

She had the right to make the statement. But I'm tired of hearing it. I think changing the channel also does not suffice anymore. Unlike 1984, one can't simply change a television channel to rid themselves of exposure to certain topics. In 2017, you can change the channel, but your personal computer has notifications, your email server posted links to articles, newspapers publish it, etc. There is no escaping it. It's really a vintage act in simply changing the channel. I get what your point was but I'm afraid it's not possible anymore.

Points of view like Streep's aren't going away any time soon. Trump has gone out of his way to alienate certain groups during and after his campaign and they all want their voices heard. The other side is no better in terms of their complaining. I still hear people bitching about Obama with the same intensity they were when he got elected. Trump hasn't even made it into office yet--just wait until he (hopefully not) starts really ****ing stuff up--so the bitching is just starting. I have to say, anything said against Trump at the Golden Globes shouldn't surprise anyone considering he's had a negative opinion about the three main groups Streep mentioned: Hollywood, foreigners, and the press. :lol I wouldn't turn on a conservative talk show and be surprised to hear them insulting Obama, liberals, etc.

Agreed. It's not going away, unfortunately which is why I miss being able to simply turn the channel and avoid it. Can't do that now lol. There never really has been any president that didn't alienate groups at some level. Everyone has different life narratives so it's just a cyclical process. The really funny part (if one has a similar sense of humor like mine) is that Streep was criticizing an individual who has mental illness (Trump), who was reportedly (probably) making fun of someone disabled haha. Basically a never ending cycle of :thwak => :thwak => :thwak

I've refrained from commenting on a LOT of political posts these last few months. What sucked to me is that forum members whose posts I otherwise enjoyed reading had political viewpoints vastly different than mine (People have different opinions? who have thunk it?). "Knowing" forum members on a superficial level based on their posts on collectibles/movies/sports is far different from having more meaningful discussions.

Having said that, I'm not saying I agree with Streep's comments...but our country's Commander in Chief should be able to rise above tweeting petty responses to any criticisms.

:lol Everyone is a special little snowflake that thinks it's their duty to let everyone know their opinions--and you're going to hear those opinions whether you asked for them or not. My main problem with all of that is that it's rare to see people backing up their opinions and points of view with actual facts. The art of discussing issues using facts has almost been completely lost nowadays. A lot of people just think they're right about everything. If anyone disagrees--regardless of their reasoning--they are not only 100% wrong but an idiot/*******/enemy. A lot of people don't want to learn from each other anymore because they already know everything, and those same people don't care about what anyone else wants because it's all about getting what they they think they "deserve".

Haha The answer is because people are generally cognitive misers. It's simply much easier to devote a fraction of mental energy into using binary, dichotomous language to make sense of the world when reality is everything sits on a continuum loop. It's easier to call someone a "Lib" or a "Racist" or even a "millennial" if he/she/they conducts behavior that is not associated with another's values. People can be skilled in abstractly noticing trends. We are flawed when we only use binary thought processes to make sense of what the pattern tells us. My theory though is that we see increased hostility and limited thought (e.g. quick assumptions, paired with little data) due to changing worldview and perceptions. Think of how many things we all juggle now. It's unreal. Part of my job is to help teach people how to breathe again. We have so many different narratives in our lives that those who do not wish to persevere more, often use more limited cognitive appraisal strategies to compensate for mental energy being devoted into other areas of life. There's not really fault for that action, but mores having to own that decision to be limited in one's appraisal. I do think "facts" are dangerous though. There are scientific truths that inform us, objectively about our subjective experience of the world. But most of the time, facts are merely just modified data to tell a narrative that fits with the points trying to be made. So I don't even put a lot of credit on facts people offer as well. It's just part of being skeptical in worldview. lol

He's much better at articulating than I

That was more fakes news. Funny she up and decides to speak up on that, but not a peep on the mentally challenged guy tortured in Chicago. **** that old ****, and the rest of Hollywood elitism thinking they have a right to speak on anything in politics when no matter the outcome, it doesn't affect them.

BTW, why was she dressed like a stain glass window?

Heaven forbid that people use whatever platform they have to talk about things that matter to them. Politics affects everybody.

Do you not think that Trumps decisions will probably weigh a bit heavier on the nation than some thug/racist idiots in Chicago? That just might be why she chose that specific topic, doncha think. Golly.
