Yes I'm sure that the Obamacare law cost many of Hollywood's elite lose their health coverage.

This is a particularly narrow view of the impact of politics on a society. Or is it just you and your ilk who are allowed to comment on how your society is governed?

I've voted in 8 Presidential elections and they have had very little impact on any of those in my life. But I don't live on or rely on government assistance so maybe that's why there's been little impact.

Sounds like you should either ask for a refund or count yourself fortunate.

People who run their own business or rely upon the economy would disagree with you.

They may have a different experience but they cannot disagree with me.

I do both of those and can assure you the president who is on the way out has hurt my income tremendously over the last several years. My income potential has gone up dramatically since the election and this coming year is looking to be fantastic because of how confident consumers are in the coming economy.

And what ilk is that?

I'm not trying to silence anyone. My problem is people that complain about Politics, specifically Hollywood, has no room to complain. And this election has shown that the American people have had it being preached to by Hollywood, because they all believe were too stupid to think for ourselves so they put out their bellyaching videos. And I'm glad Streep had the self awareness that they're completely irrelevant as individuals to the population. You pretend to be other people for a living, that's it.

There are people who got ****ed by the last Administration, who knew they would get ****ed, and got ****ed to the advantage of those who fear the next Administration will balance those books.

All I heard from Streep was more handwringing over fears inspired by a man who is still just trolling. She has every right to speak where she has an audience, but it doesn't make the people looking to share in a celebration of cinema any more interested in being lectured yet again. Obama's opposition was extremely vocal upon his election, but the media was not echoing their sentiments. People who listened to how great Obama was for 8 years are now being told they're human garbage for putting Trump there, and they hear it everywhere. A collective "go **** yourself" is appropriate. They'd be chumps to keep that to themselves. Streep's rant amounted to an expectation that they should learn their place as chumps, and that she held the higher moral perspective by which to teach them.

So, good for everybody. All still pissed, all still holier-than-thou, all still incapable of electing a real President. What else is new.

:goodpost:

Mel and Vince looked bewildered.

I feel the same about conservatives and the religious right telling you how to live your life. Often preaching about less government, but advocating government control over the most personal and fundamnetal aspects of living, such as reproductive choices, end of life decisions, what one can and cant put into one's body, who one can marry, etc.

On top of that theres the inevitable hypocrisy when one of the same men get caught having sex withthe pool boy, or impregnating a prosititue, or going on their 3rd marraige.

I think anyone can speak their mind about anything anytime anywhere. But I also like what Marky Mark said after the election:

“You know, it just goes to show you that people aren’t listening to that anyway. They might buy your CD or watch your movie, but you don’t put food on their table. You don’t pay their bills.”

And Hillary sure did put a lot of her eggs in the celeb basket.

But i think the streep speech was more about questioning who we are as a society. She raised one specific incident involving the allegation of trump mocking a disabled reporter. I took her comments as being that the act is more likely to come from a 10th grader and not becoming of someone seeking the presidency. As a result, the fact that someone who said this (and many other things) and STILL got elected makes her question our national identity and character. Thats how i took it.
