They are navigating in uncharted territory now that they've starting to deviate from the books in all kinds of ways. It's now that the TPTB of the show needs to prove they have that great feel of the whole book universe that it has been said they have from very beginning. Every article I read and every television snippet mentions it without fail.
Yeah, next season will be all kinds of thing beyond ADWD. It will be interesting because now us book readers can have the experience the show watchers had when they picked up the books just in reverse when Winds of Winter cones out.

I REALLY hope we get to see Drogon grow as big as Balerion (you can see tiny Aegon on his back):

^ Yeah. That would be nuts. I remember the scene with Tywin and Joffrey about Dany and her dragons and his comment about how 'the biggest was as big as a carriage.' Ha! You wish. [emoji38]

I hate what he did but I also understand what he did.

He made the ultimate sacrifice. If he were in the bible he would be commended for his devotion to the lord.

I can see this choice being something that will eat away at him and probably undo him going forward.

But now he has no heirs. No children, no brothers. So even if he does win the throne (which I can't ever see happening) it'll be extremely temporary.

Burning off his nose to spite his face. :lol

I'm not a 100% convinced she is dead. I have a theory that greyscale could make one immune to fire, but the comments from GRRM and the show runners suggest I am just in denial over the loss of a very likeable character with a lot of potential.

I thought she would have been a perfect adopted heir for Daenerys, both in practical terms and dynastic symbolism. A bookish girl would seem as safe a bet as there is to not evolve into a irresponsible or predatory ruler and be open to whatever reforms Daenerys has in mind.

Also I bought the Hero Club throne, so I'll give people the specs and a critical review if no one with it in hand already does so.

I don't see those as parallel. They haven't portrayed this as a religiously-inspired choice by Stannis, but rather as a decision to allow him to best pursue power. The fact that some spiritual influence is involved seems secondary. In the bible, folks may be willing to sacrifice their children in order to appease God, but it's not the same situation.

I think you are splitting hairs here. Besides the fact the show runners specifically said it was a commentary on religious fanaticism, just ask yourself: would Stannis murder his only child if he didn't believe a deity would grant him victory/power as a result?

My point is that that Isaac and Stannis were motivated by different factors, which is a pretty significant difference in that one is something you would see as an allegory in the bible, and one clearly isn't. Stannis knows that this mystical power is real, because it led to the death of his brother. But he's power mad, and willing to do whatever it takes to become king. In his mind, this is not a sacrifice of Stannis so much as for Stannis. I see the fanaticism angle in Mellisandre and Stannis's wife, and in the Sparrows subplot much more than in the case of Stannis himself, which seems more of the (very common in GOT) selfish willingness to do anything to further his own narrow interests.
